I went in and rushed to my room just to find Mother cleaning out my wardrobe.
"What are you doing? We just moved!" I spoke.
"Taking put a fancy dress for you!" She replied.
"What for?" I asked.
"Dinner, tonight, just the three of us, you need to give Kai a chance whether you like it or not". She said.
"Well, I don't like it, I don't want to dine besides I've got someone coming over!" I said as I sat down on the bed. Mother came and sat by me.
"Look, this marriage is the best thing that has happened to us, you've got to give Kai a chance, take tonight as an opportunity to bond and become close, I know it's been very long but I want us to have dinner as a family again, just you, me and Kai". She replied stroking my hair.
This marriage must have been good for you but hasn't been the best for me, I still need to adjust and I don't think I can ever accept Kai as my father! He stole your heart Mother, he stole you from me and I'm sure this idea is his too, I can't stand him.
"Mother, I'd like for us to experience a fine dining experience but I've got someone coming over today!" I said looking at her.
"Hey, whose coming over my precious pearl? Kai asked as he swiped his hair back and sat by me.
"Okay, first. You should knock when you...." I began but Mother nudged me.
"Luhan!" I said slouching.
"A guy!" Kai exclaimed thinking about something.
"Wait, you invited a boy home? Have I not thought you anything? You can't just go to school for two days and bring a guy over? Did I not tell you to stay clears of strangers!" Mother scolded me.
Yeah! Go on, scold me because you clearly didn't find Kai as a stranger before you married him. If you can bring a guy over to be my father than I can bring a guy too, besides, he's only my science partner, nothing else.
"I can explain!"I blurted out. "He and I have been paired up for a science fair project." I added.
"In that case, tell him to come over some other time, because tonight we are going out!" Mother exclaimed excited.
"You two go ahead, I better get started," I said as I got up but Mother pulled my arm and I fell back on the bed, I was trapped between Kai and Mother.
"I'll tell him that today isn't a good idea!" I said with sarcasm in my voice.
I went downstairs and called Chen. The phone rang.
"Hey Na-young, how's everything?" He asked.
"Hey, listen, I don't have Luhan's number. Can you call him for me and tell him that he can't come over today?"I said.
"Why don't you tell him yourself, I'll text you the number and he's not as bad as you think, he's a pretty decent guy Na-young." Chen replied.
"Alright, I'll tell him, talk to you later, 안녕, bye!"I said as I shut the phone. I got a text soon and I dialed Luhan's number but he didn't pick us, I dialed again but still he didn't pick up so I texted him:
"Hey, it's Na-young, I'm not available today, drop in tomorrow!"
We headed out by six-thirty and went to a fancy restaurant.
"Mother, you look gorgeous!" I exclaimed looking at her dress.
She was wearing one of her finest satin dress that she never wore after Father died, she looked really happy and having a young face, she was really pretty!"
"I heard that the Alfredo pasta here is amazing, what do you say Na-young?" Kai asked.
"I say, we start with this good looking chicken soup and work our way through a main course of Chicken Alfredo pasta and finish up with the ice-cream with dark chocolate sauce dripping down it!"I said as my eyes skimmed through the menu.
"Let us order too Na-young, you're way too exited!" Mother said.
"Let her order, I'm glad that she has her choices besides I'll have whatever you're having!" Kai exclaimed flashing me a smile.
He was so kind to pay for all this, it will be good to eat away from home and have someone serve us. Maybe.... not that can't be.
Mother ordered the sour and spicy vegetable soup. It arrived in small tea cup sized bowls very creamy and delicious with crackers.
I consumed mine in a very lady-like manner making Kai impressed and he praised Mother for raising me like the princess I was.
I laughed and I was starting to have a good time.
During dinner, I told him about our art drawings and about the war, but Mother said no talking about school on the table so I shared one of Mothers and my hide and seek game.
Mother laughed as she remembered how I was hiding behind the curtains with my feet sticking out and she didn't notice until I sneezed. This was way back home when I was thirteen or something.
Kai shared his interest for contemporary dance and said that he took lessons at high school. He told me about Sehun mischievous pranks and I laughed when he told me that once Sehun put some tape outside the bathroom door and he got tangled in them as he came out.
We had a great talk with lots of smiles and laughs and finally desert arrived, Kai said that he only ordered one so we could share. I had no complains because it was a huge dessert.
He took his spoon and took the desert and ushered me to try it by holding the spoon in front of my mouth.
I would've said something really hurtful because I wasn't a kid but my mouth was watering.
I ate it and it was delicious.
"This is so good, I couldn't ask for a better place to eat and I like the food". I replied.
감사합니다 가이/ Thank you Kai!" I added eating the desert.
"Order more of you want." He said cheerfully.
"I can't eat more!" Mother replied.
"Me too!" I agreed.
We paid for the expensive meal and left, we had a walk on that clear night and as Kai went to get his car with me, he told me that he was sorry for moving here and he should've stayed back home because I sounded like I was happy there.
I was, but I had decided to move on and school was actually good and better even if I had to deal with bullies!
I nodded but didn't tell him that I liked it here.
He also told me that I would never go to a boarding school because he wouldn't stand for it, his words were surprising because he had talked about it with Uncle Kyungsoo.
We drove and picked up Mother who was buying me some Mango smoothie after my dessert. She said that I was going to gain some weight but I intended to as long as Kai was paying.
I had a good time as I lay in bed thing about the dinner. It was the best dinner if my life and Kai was one of those people who payed really good attention and listened and joined in rather than those phone using people who don't care if you eat or not. And owning a company as well as spending time with family, this guy knew how to manage both.
I think I was beginning to.... not I still didn't like him because he tried to take my Fathers place that no one can take.
I checked my phone but Luhan hadn't texted me. He read my text but was he mad at me?
After worrying about me him being dead and afraid that I was going to like Kai, telling myself that "I can't like him, I just can't!" I fell asleep.
