Opening monologue

My first day. I see a mix of faces; inspiring smiles, downtrodden expressions - there is a poignant sense of an entire world of emotions, and somehow I find it fuels me. It's like when you digest a huge meal, and what first seemed like a crippling challenge is surprisingly an uplifting experience. Maybe I thrive under pressure? Or perhaps I was just alighted by my own desperation? Nevertheless the weight of my expectations did not drag me down like an anchor, it filled my sails with just enough wind to soar. Looking down, having perspective, it's sure as hell the best coping mechanism man can invent. But just like every great system, there are errors. Ways the human mind can storm down its own defences to reveal the reality we all face on some level. The heart wrenching truth that we are not divine, we are just like the victims needing help under the surface, and once that jacket disappears we are just as vulnerable. As I would love to conclude: we breach the depths of hell terrified, but we do it with iron fists and burning hearts. We do it with the pride, courage and grace required. Do not be overcome child, for within us lies something powerful and wild.
