Drops of sunlight sparkled across her face, seeping into the room and illuminating every nook and cranny. Maddie snorted herself awake and arched her back, stretching her arms above her head. She whipped the duvet off of her legs and sat up, climbing out of bed. Maddie tied her hair up into a terribly messy bun, (not the kind you've seen on Pinterest) and crept into the kitchen.
After fixing herself a bowl of oatmeal, not because she liked it, but because she hadn't gone shopping in a week, she clutched the warm bowl close to her shivering body. Skulking outside to pick up her mail, she tripped on what she'd thought was a rock, up until it said "Ow"
"What are you doing on my porch" Maddie said. Sebastian groggily climbed to his feet and stood in front of her in full daylight. "I mean I'd expect a rabid dog or even a subscription to playboy magazine before seeing you... the stalker I guess"
"I just-" she held a finger up, cutting him off.
"Do not tell me you slept here last night. What the hell is wrong with you?! What do you want from me, I didn't realize you were actually a perv!" Maddie shouted the last bit to really make a point.
"Well... um" he said, scratching the back of his neck. "It's complicated."
"I think you can manage to say 'I'm your stalker Maddie, I've always admired you from afar and I like to watch you sleep'" she mocked in a deep voice, adding a lisp for dramatic effect. "It puts the lotion on its skin" she poked fun at him. Maddie's last comment actually forced a giggle out of the guy. He blew a stray hair out of his face.
"Not quite" Sebastian responded, 'witty' he thought.
"Well what is it then?" Maddison asked.
"Well I think you're my... umm, well you know. You're my thingy" Sebastian responded, looking at the ground and messing with his fingernails.
"You literally haven't answered anything. You realize that right? If anything you've made this situation even more confusing." Maddie said, her eyebrows knitting together.
"Well it's hard cause I think you'd know that you were my 'whatchamacallit', but you don't seem to so I don't know how to feel" Sebastian paused, thinking for just a split second. "wait your birthday's coming up right?"
"Yeah, why?" Maddie asked "Wait, what does that have to do with anything we just barely talked about'" she said with a bit of frustration this time.
"Well you know us, and our special stuff and everything" he stared at the ground, avoiding eye contact "well since you can't seem to tell that I'm your thingy and everything I'm gonna go ahead and guess you're 15, turning 16..." he paused to check a nonexistent watch "today?" he looked back up with a questioning brow-line.
"A stalker and a detective?" she laughed, maintaining a closed-off stance with her arms crossed.
"Some would say that's a skill match made in heaven" he said, cautiously returning her energy.
"While others might say 'get off my porch'" she pointed to the path leading back to the sidewalk from her porch.
"Just wait a couple hours sugar lips. You'll be drooling over me." He smiled down at her and skipped giddily away from her front door.
"In your dreams dude!" she yelled at the back of his head.
