I
have never seen the sea.
and yet I live
as if
I am below
the silk of the waves
as if reality itself
is refracted
according to
the whims of sunlight
as if I stretch
my fingers upward
towards the shifting
reflections above
my hair floating
above my face
my eyes
flutter shut
the call of the ocean
I do not know
rushes like thunder
when you place
a seashell to your ear
listening for mermaids
I am under the water
but I do not drown
sinking deeper
into the call
not knowing quite
what I'm looking for
only that I'm willing
to go to the ends of the earth
to search for sirens
even if I end up empty-handed.
