Chapter 7
I woke up feeling like sh*t that a semi ran over on the freeway. I had a terrible headache, and arms felt too heavy to lift. I tried to open my eyes, but they felt like they had been glued shut. What happened?? I twisted my body around and shouted, "HEY! IS ANYBODY THERE?!?! SOMEBODY HELP ME!" I heard some shuffling noises to my left, then a lady's Southern accent.
"Miss Huntington, please calm down. There's no need to shout or move around so much." I stopped thrashing and quieted my voice a little.
"Where am I?? What happened?!"
"Someone attempted assault and kidnapping. They knocked you out with Methamphetamine, and you've been out ever since. It's a good thing we got you here quickly. A few more minutes, and it could've caused some serious damage."
"Oh." It was all coming back to me now. I remember everything. The man with the cruel smile. The shadow behind me. Falling forward. The blur from the side. Darkness. "Is there anyone I can see? Are my brothers here?" The weariness was wearing off now, so I reached up to wipe my eyes, blinking them open.
"I'm guessing they are. There are actually quite a few people out in the waiting room asking about you. Judging from the number of times I hear your name, I'd think you were a celebrity or something if I didn't know better." Yeah, a street celebrity. I tried to laugh a little, but it sounded more like I was choking. She smiled at me.
"I'll go let the doctor know you're awake. Do you need anything? Some water, maybe? How do you feel?" I shook my head, which only made my headache worse.
"No, I'm fine. I just want to see everyone as soon as possible." She nodded, and left the room. While I waited, I took the time to look around. I was in a plain, small, pale yellow room, lying on a tiny hospital bed.
Questions were turning themselves over in my brain. Who would want to kidnap me? Why? I'd beaten some pretty egoistic dudes while street-fighting, but I didn't think of them as enemies. Just posing punks who think they know everything, but annoy those of us who do. Had I somehow offended one of them enough for them to want to hurt me? As I was pondering this, a small man in a white coat walked in. Guess he's the doctor.
"Hello, Jared. I'm Dr. Benson. Ms. Huntington, how do you feel?" I mentally rolled my eyes.
"Like I was run over by a truck." He half-smiled, and nodded.
"That's understandable. They used quite a bit of that nasty stuff on you." Wow. Just wow. I was about to respond, but the nurse poked her head into the room. "Dr. Benson? The guests in the waiting room are getting more impatient. They're demanding to see her." He sighed.
"Tell them to wait until we finish the tests." The nurse shook her head.
"They're saying that if I don't let them see her soon, they'll come by force." Yup, those are the people (well, guys) I associate with. I bet they could all individually force their way in here if they had to. The Dr. Benson guy sighed again. Wow, must be a habit.
"Alright. Tell them to come in a few at a time." She nodded and disappeared for a few moments. When she returned, she was being hounded by 6 impatient guys. She ushered them all in, but the doctor protested. "Hey! I said a few at a time!" The nurse shrugged.
"That is a few. Their few. They said all of them are the family. Wait until you see the friends."
I watched them leave, then awkwardly turned to look at my family. All 5 of my brothers were there, along with my dad. "Hey." I smiled slightly at them.
"Hey. How do you feel?" Wow, that must be some required phrase everyone has to say when someone's injured. My dad walked over, sat down, and touched my hand. I groaned.
"I feel terrible! Like something chewed me up and spit me out, then ran me over with Speed Racer's car." They all laughed, but it sounded weak and forced.
"Wow, getting descriptive, huh?" I nodded.
"So what happened?" I glanced at my dad, who just looked at me. "You must know by now."
He raised an eyebrow at me. "Yes, I do know. Everything. But I want to hear it from you."
I sighed, then started telling the whole story. From the beginning, in order, including details. If felt good to have everything out, and my dad just sat there and listened. His facial expression didn't change the whole time. "Dad?"
"Yeah, Jared?"
"Uhm, I was wondering...aren't you supposed to be p*ssed?" He laughed that strained, forced laugh again.
"Well, after I found out about what happened, I was more worried about your health condition than your favorite pastimes. But believe it not, I did have a few questions for your 'friends' out there." as soon as he said 'friends', I perked up.
"Friends?! Who's here?? Wait, you didn't chase them away, did you?!" He shook his head.
"No, I didn't chase them away. I only asked them...normal questions, I guess. So they shouldn't be too scared when they come over next time." I sighed with relief.
"Okay. Thanks, Dad."
"No problem, honey." Grr...
"Dad, remember? No pet names!"
"Oh, oops. Sorry, Red." I smiled at him.
"It's okay, Dad."
"'Kay then. I'm gonna go, I gotta get to work. Get well soon, so we can get you home!"He got up, kissed the top of my head, and walked out into the hallway. It was just me and my brothers in the room. This could not be good. They were all still standing awkwardly around my bed, staring at me weirdly.
"Uhm...so, Gabe and Matt? How are you liking your visit?" Matt raised an eyebrow at me.
"We probably would've liked it better if we didn't have to come here." Ooh, right. The hospital.
"Oh...yeah. Well, it's not like I planned for that to happen! It just...did." Gabe answered this time.
"Uh-huh. But if there's any, and I mean ANY chance this could happen again, I think you should stop whatever got you into this mess."
"No! I would never, EVER quit. You can't make me. And besides, I don't even know what got me into this mess!"
"Okay, okay! You don't have to quit, it was just a suggestion!" I nodded.
"Good. So...what happened?" I directed the question toward all 5 of them, implying that anyone could answer. No one did. "Hello? Anybody home?" Tristan finally sighed.
"Nobody knows for sure. The police are still investigating what happened. The guys who...attacked you weren't caught. They're still searching for them." Too bad they weren't caught. Now I have to check where I go. Grr...
"But what happened? I mean, I know they knocked me out with some inhalable drug, but what happened after that?" Luke decided to enlighten me...
~*Luke's POV*~
~*Flashback*~
After PG-4 (Jared, Alex, Chase, Cole, and Ryder's awesome dance crew) won the competition, we all stood around talking. I was talking with my girlfriend, Annabella, about our families. Apparently, she just has one older sister, plus both her parents. She seems to really like my family. When she met Jared, she looked really happy to meet her, unlike the other girls I've dated. What were their names? Moira? Myra? No...Monique? Whatever. Annabella's great.
I guess Jared left her stuff in the warm-up area, so she ran back to get it when we started walking back to the van. We all sat in the car for awhile (Annie was on my lap), but Ryder started getting worried. Jared's a champion street-fighter, so it shouldn't take so long for her to just grab her stuff. The guys (Alex, Chase, Cole, and Ryder) decided to go check on her and tell her to hurry up. I could still hear them talking about the competition excitedly as they disappeared around the corner, but their chatter quickly turned to loud swearing and yelling. I couldn't understand most of what they were saying, but what I caught was, "F*CKING...OFF HER!! WHAT...YOU DO?!?!" I guess everyone else got the message, too, because suddenly everyone was jumping out of the car and sprinting toward the voices.
As soon as I rounded the corner, I was horrified. Jared was lying face down on the ground, unmoving, and Alex, Chase, Cole, Ryder, and some other guy Jared was talking to were fighting three men. They were dressed in black, but they never held still long enough for me to get a good look at them. The men noticed us immediately, and sprinted away towards the street, where they jumped into a big black Cadillac and drove off. At first, I didn't know what to do. I reached for my cell phone to call the police, but then I saw Chase already had that covered. I could hear him finishing telling whoever answered where we were and stuff. I was going to try reviving Jared, but Zach and Alex were already on it. Cole and Ryder were telling the police guy already here what had happened. As I was looking at the scene, I felt two arms wrap around me. It was Annie. I turned my ear, and she whispered into it.
"Lucky, the police want to talk to you." I sighed.
"Okay." I kissed her lightly, then went over to where a large policeman was standing, frowning at the scene.
Afterward, we followed the ambulance to the hospital, where we waited...and waited. Tristan called Dad, who came in all flustered. He must've been in a bad mood. Well, I would be, too if I got woken up at 1 in the morning by my son on the phone telling me that my daughter was just drugged and assaulted. When the receptionist lady called Jared's name, we all stood up. The lady told us that Red was fine, but she was still out from the drugs they used. Dad did a double-take when he saw Jared's friends, then asked, "Who're you?" They just said they were Red's friends, and he went, "Oh. So that's why she never brought home any friends." Then he started bugging the receptionist lady about seeing Jared. She eventually told him to shut up and wait, so then he just sat in a chair and sulked like a little kid. Wow, Dad. Wow. He didn't look angry about Red keeping the guys a secret for so long, only frustrated about not being able to see her. And worried. All of us were.

~*Jared's POV*~
They all nodded their heads in agreement with Luke's last statement. Wow, they must really love me. They DID all look extremely worried, sad, and...angry. Probably at whoever did this. "Wait, I only saw two men. How'd the third one get there?" They shrugged.
"Maybe he was behind you with that other guy, and you only saw the other two."
"Yeah, I guess so." There were a couple minutes of silence, so I decided to speak up. "Hey, if we're done with our pow-wow, can I see my friends? Who's here??" Dustin answered.
"Let's see. Shawn and Aaron decided to wait with us. Annie, Rachel, and Stella came, too. And the guys, of course, are all here. Alex, Chase, Cole, Ryder, and that one dude you introduced us to. Zeke?" I laughed.
"You mean Zach? Awesome! Can I see them??"
"Sure." Tristan got up and went over to the doorway. "SHAWN AND AARON! IF YOU CAN HEAR ME, COME TO ROOM 304 WITH THE WHOLE CREW!!" I heard running foots, like a stampede, then Shawn, Aaron and the rest of the waiting committee appeared. My fellow PG-4 buddies (Alex, Chase, Cole, and Ryder) immediately flooded me with hugs, while Shawn, Aaron, and the girlfriends waited until they were finished. Zach came last. When he came over, I raised an eyebrow.
"So you're my hero, huh?" He shrugged.
"Yeah, I guess so." I smiled.
"So according to the movies, you're the knight in shining armor who saved me, the damsel in distress, from impending doom Which means I'm eternally grateful, starting now!"
"Um, you really don't have to do that, Red."
"Oh, but I want to, Your Majesty. Your wish is my command."
"No, I mean it. You don't have to."
"No, I mean it. I really want to, Your Highness."
"Red..."
"Your Honor..."
"Jared."
"My liege."
"Seriously, stop!"
"Seriously, not!...Oh my King."
"I'll tickle you if you don't!" My eyes widened. Oh crap!
"No! You wouldn't dare!" He smiled evilly.
"Oh yes, I would." Grr...
"Fine! Fine! I'll stop!" He raised an eyebrow.
"BUT I still want one wish. No matter when, no matter what. Promise?"
"Alright, I promise."
"No matter when, no matter what. Say it, and pinky promise." I sighed heavily.
"Really, Zach??" He smiled.
"Really. Say it, and pinky promise."
"Fine. No matter when, no matter what." I held out my pinky, and he shook it with his own. "It was fun to annoy you, though."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Get well soon, PG."
"'Kay, Zach. Wait. How long was I out?" He frowned.
"Over 24 hours." My eyes widened. Again.
"WHAT?! Wow, you all must be really tired!" He shook his head.
"Not really. Well, we'll probably all feel it later, but right now I'm just worried about you." Wow, Zach's going soft. Lol, now I can tease him! I put on a cutesy voice and puppy-dog eyes.
"Aww...Zachy's worried about me. That's so sweet!" He rolled his eyes.
"Whatever." I laughed.
"Hey, can you get their attention?" I motioned toward everyone, who were all talking.
He went over to where the others were standing, and yelled, "Hey, guys. Shut up! Jared wants to say something!" I raised an eyebrow at him, and he just grinned back.
"Okay, everyone. Glad you decided to stay for the party! Especially the ones who didn't have to, but wanted to anyway, which was basically all of you. It's been...like, a day now? Wait. Did you guys skip school?!" Tristan looked at me weird.
"Um, Jared? Yesterday was Friday, remember? It's, like, 1 in the morning on Saturday right now."
"Oh." Wow, I feel stupid... "Hey, do you know when I can leave?" Aaron smiled.
"Tonight, if you want."
"Really!?" He grinned.
"Yup. We can break in through the window and steal you away during the night with our awesome ninja skills." I rolled my eyes.
"Uh-huh, yeah, sure. Can you find out from the nurse?" He crossed his arms and pretended to pout while he left to go find the nurse.
"Fine. Don't take advantage of our awesome ninja skills." I laughed and waited for him to come back.
~*5 minutes later*~
You can leave this afternoon. They just need to run some tests on you."
"Good. The sooner, the better. This place smells funny."
"You sure it's not him?" Aaron pointed to Shawn, who made a face and rolled his eyes at him.
"No, as much as I would love to blame him, it's not. Maybe it's just me."
