Today I got a text message from one of my best friends, Shawn Mendes, saying that he was on his way. Him and I have been good friends for a couple of years now and I really like him. Like him, as in, more than a friend. I know that he likes me like that too but after getting hurt in a past relationship, I'm just not ready to be in another relationship just yet, which Shawn knows. I soon heard a knock on my front door and let Shawn and his guitar in.
"Hey Y/n." Shawn said with a smile that gives me butterflies.
"Hey Shawn." I said, returning the smile.
"Can we sit down?" Shawn asked. I nodded.
"Sure. So, why do you have the guitar with you?" I asked.
"Well, I wanted to play a song for you. It's going to be on the new album and only the people that I work with have heard it. I wanted you to be the first one to hear it because, well, it's about you." Shawn said while rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
"You wrote a song about me?" I asked while feeling stunned. Shawn nodded.
"I did. Can I play it for you?" Shawn asked. I nodded. He started to sing and strum along.
"Maybe I had too many drinks, but that's just what I needed

Shawn stopped singing and turned to me.
"What did you think?" He asked nervously. I had tears in my eyes.
"I loved it. Thank you so much. I know that it came from the heart and I really appreciate it. I promise you that when I'm ready, I'll tell you." I said. Shawn's nerves went away and he smiled at me.
"Thank you. I'll give you all the time in the world." Shawn said. I smiled at him, and we spent the rest of the night watching movies.
Three months later
It's been three months since Shawn played When You're Ready for me and I'm finally ready. I know that Shawn isn't going to hurt me like my last boyfriend did. I never thought he would, but I was still scared. I decided to call Shawn.
"Hello?" I heard a groggy Shawn ask.
"Did I wake you up?" I asked.
"It's okay." He said.
"No, go back to bed. I'll call you later." I said.
"No, you're more important than sleep. What's up?" Shawn asked as I blushed.
"Can you come over when you're more awake?" I asked.
"Of course. Everything alright?" Shawn asked and I could hear the concern in his voice.
"Yeah, just want to tell you something." I said.
"Okay, I'm on my way, let me just get ready and get some coffee first." He said.
"Okay, see you soon." I said, and with that, we hung up. Shawn soon showed up on my front doorstep. I let him in and we sat down on the couch.
"So what's up?" He asked.
"Shawn, I'm ready." I said. The biggest smile that I've ever seen broke out onto Shawn's face.
"Really? I don't want to pressure you or anything." Shawn asked and said.
"You didn't pressure me or anything Shawn. I'm ready." I said.
"Well then, Y/n, will you be mine?" Shawn asked. I nodded with a huge smile on my face. Shawn smiled too.
"Yes! I'll be yours." I said. Shawn and I both leaned forward and kissed. When our lips touched, I felt sparks shootout like fireworks throughout my body. I felt butterflies erupt and fly around in my stomach, and I felt my heart race as if I had just run a marathon. In that moment, not only did I know that I was definitely ready, but also that Shawn was the one for me. I'm glad that Shawn waited until I was ready.
