best nightmares ⋆ poetry

ascend

every person is a bubble
a speck of air
in the deep blue wonderland of the world.
when something hits the surface,
sinks deep to the bottom,
the bubbles ascend towards freedom and success:
into open air.
they shove into each other,
unlucky ones exploding like tiny gunshots in the cool, quiet water.
but little do they know,
when the few who do escape reach the surface,
they stay triumphant for a moment,
but then they pop, dissipate;
never to be seen again.
