Weeks after Ace in hospital
The school calls me Monday morning.
" Hey Jamie, it is Karla. How you doing?" Karla, the receptionist, says.
" Oh, I'm doing better. How are you?" I ask.
" I'm good. I just wanted to know if you're planning on finishing year twelve?" She asks, hopeful.
" Uh, I don't know. Hopefully" I say.
" Would you like to come in today? You could do a one day trial!" She says excitedly.
Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. I would just wag.
" sure" I say cautiously.
I walk into school, Ace closely by my side.
Isn't the the chic who's mum was in an accident?
I heard her mum couldn't handle a bad girl as a daughter so she killed her self.
Is she a drunk too?
Why is ace with her when he knows she is depressed?
The rumours are too much, so I walk faster. Ace keeps in sync with my steps, however, the whole time.
I get to my locker, Ace hot on my heels.
" What's up You depressed cow!" Lauren says behind me.
I note how quiet it is in the halls. I turn around.
She slaps me.
" Watch it!" I warn.
So she slaps me again.
" Don't mess with the badass Lauren!" Some guy yells from down the hall.
I smile.
I have supporters and they respect me.
" Lauren, it's not worth it" a girl says near me.
Lauren looks me up and down.
" No, but it will be fun" she smirks.
Then her fist comes flying at my face.
Doesn't she ever learn her lesson.
I catch her fist.
She struggles.
" Aren't too fun now, aye?" I say, laughing.
She tries to punch me with the other hand. Of course I catch it.
" Ha!" I say.
Pushing her into the lockers behind.
" No one messes with me hun, and I think I have told you this many times before" I sneer.
She whimpers.
" Am I hurting you?" I laugh.
" No!" She says.
" well, I think I'm done here" I let go and walk away, to the office with Ace.
" Good to see your happy.....uh....smile again Jamie!" Mrs Weatherboard, the principle, says.
She never liked me and I don't actually care.
" Thanks I guess" I say.
" So, we have a couple a new courses since you left. Here's a pamphlet on the newest courses but you can still take your original ones anyways" she smiles happily.
How could someone be happy to run this dump?
" Thanks, but it doesn't matter anyway. I don't like any subjects I do" I shrug.
I get up to leave.
" Did I say you could leave?" She asks angrily.
" No, but I assumed" I say continuing out the door.
I hear her yelling but don't turn around.
It's my life to live and no one can tell me different.
