Ria's POV
"Ano ba ang kaibahan ng vanilla at cream?" ani Chase at nagkamot ng ulo.
"Tsk." inirapan ko siya at lumapit sa aurai na kanina pa naghihintay sa oorderin namin.
"One gallon of mint chocolate. And.. two servings of both vanilla and cream.." nginitian ko ang aurai.
Kinuha ko ang dalawang cups ng ice cream at inabot kay Chase yung isa. Bitbit ko rin ang bag na may lamang isang gallon ng mint chocolate na itatago ko mamaya sa pinakalikurang bahagi ng freezer para walang makakakita.
Because I must be the first one to eat it.
It's one of my rules.
"Aren't we supposed to get on a vacation or some sort?" tanong ko nang maalala na magkakaroon pala kami ng break away from the school.
Tumango si Chase. "May narinig ata ako. Si Trev yung nag suggest."
That's odd.
"Where?" nakakunot ang aking noo.
Usually ako yung nag p-plano kapag mga ganyan. Malay ko ba kung anong pumasok sa isip ni Trev this time.
"Boeotia, Greece."
Napahinto ako sa paglalakad pagkatapos marinig yon. Binaba ko ang maliit na spoon at napatingin kay Chase.
"Isn't that where we had our... first mission?" I asked again.
Tumango siya.
"Huh." Nagtataka ako at nagpatuloy lamang sa paglalakad.
I have been continuously eating ice cream while thinking of possible reasons as to why Trev wants to go there kahit andaming lugar na pwede naming mapuntahan.
Kung gusto niya sa Greece, may Santorini naman na alam ko'y always recommended for tourists.
Sa Boeotia...
Sa Boeotia naroon ang lugar na Lebadeia. Kilala ang lugar na'to dahil isa ito sa mythological origin places.
Dito galing ang oracle na si Trophonius.
Siya at ang kapatid niya are some sort of great architects or builders during their time. Then the King of Boeotia ordered them to make a treasure chamber with a secret entrance na ang magkakapatid lang ang may alam.
Using the secret entrance, unti-unti nilang ninakaw ang kayamanan ng hari. Now, the king noticed this. Nag set siya ng trap to capture the thief once and for all.
Ang kapatid ni Trophonius ang nahuli sa trap ng hari. Before they could be discovered, pinugutan ni Trophonius ng ulo ang kanyang kapatid so no one can recognize that it was one of them that was caught in the trap. Tumakas siya at tumungo sa isang kweba sa Lebadeia at doon na nga siya naglaho ng tuluyan.
And then one day.
Nagkaroon ng malalang plague sa Lebadeia. The people consulted the Delphic Oracle which told them that they should look for the grave of an unnamed hero sapagkat galit daw ito for not being noticed.
The people searched everywhere but found nothing. Tumigil lamang yung pagdurusa ng mga taga-Lebadeia when a young shepherd followed a trail of bees to a hole in the ground. Imbes na makahanap ng honey...
Natagpuan niya ang bangkay ni Trophonius.
Well not really dahil naging daimon siya.
And from then on, Trophonius was worshipped as an oracle.
Hindi ko namalayang may nakabangga pala akong estudyante. Nakita ko ang Letter 'C' sa pin niya.
I gave the student an annoyed look before walking again. Later, napansin ko ang pagbubulong-bulungan ng mga estudyante na nadadaanan namin.
"Kanina pa ba sila jan?"
"I think so."
"Damn. It's just new to me."
Gusto ko sanang tumigil at magtanong sa kanila but before that could happen, tinawag ako ni Chase.
"Ria."
I looked at the direction he pointed at doon ko nakita sina Cesia at Trev na nakaupo sa isa sa circular benches at silang dalawa lang.
Like. Seriously.
Matagal kong tinanggal ang aking mga mata sa nakikita ko. Maigi ko pa talaga itong tinitigan.
OH IT'S REALLY REAL.

Kung hindi nga ako namamalik-mata, THEN WHAT IN THE UNDERWORLD AM I EVEN SEEING.
"Nakakabighani. Sampalin mo nga ako Ria."
Hindi ako nagdalawang-isip na sampalin siya kagaya ng sinabi niya dahilan na mapatingin ang ibang estudyante sa'min.
"PUTA-" nagulat siya sa ginawa ko.
Natawa ako dahil para siyang naiiyak sa bigla. Pagkatapos, ngumiti ulit siya.
"Pasalamat kang babae ka at-" hindi niya tinapos ang sasabihin niya at humalakhak nalang.
"Gusto mo iuntog ko yang ulo mo sa pader para maayos yang pagsasalita mo? Tch."

"YES HELLO!" binuksan ko ang pinto ng dorm.
Nakita ko pa nga ang gulat na gulat nilang mga reaksyon sa biglaan kong pagsulpot but let's not talk about that.
"WE ARE GOING ON A VACATION." anunsyo ko. "We are leaving tomorrow so lift your asses up and prepare your... stuffs!"
As expected, unang gumalaw si Art and ran as fast as she could towards her room. And yes, as usual, may kasama itong nakakasira ng eardrums na tili.
"Where?" tanong ni Seht.
"Just somewhere in Greece. So, kindly tell Thea." I dismissed him.
Meanwhile, Cesia is busy watching a movie with Kara. Panay ang commentary nila kung gaano ka 'stupid' ang bida. Naabot rin sila sa other topics like what if isang demigod daw ang bida and even the other supporting characters.
"GIRLS!!" tumayo ako sa harap nila.
"What do you need Ria?" naiinis na tanong ni Kara.
I cleared my throat. "I SAID WE ARE GOING SOMEWHERE TOMORROW. NARINIG NYO NA BA AKO?!"
Tumango si Cesia. "Napagsabihan na ako ni Trev kanina."
"Me too." dugtong ni Kara.
"What the hell." I felt betrayed dahil wala man lang nakapagsabi sa'kin. I just heard it from the boys talking during breakfast. Tinanong ko lang si Chase kung totoo nga.
"Ria, you are the only one that gets overly excited with vacations." tugon ni Kara.
"and ice cream." Cesia added.
I raised my hands out of defeat. "Fine. But pwede ba? You can't just blurt out my weaknesses like that! Tsk."
Tumungo na ako sa aking kwarto para ihanda ang mga dadalhin kong kagamitan.
Binuksan ko ang aking drawer at habang naghahalungkat ng masusuot during our i-don't-know how many days trip, isang papel ang nahulog sa sahig.
Pinulot ko ito at binasa ang nakasulat.
'May pupuntahan lang ako Ria. Wag kang mag-alala. Babalikan ko kayo. Sa araw na lalakas kayo. Sa araw na iba na ang itatawag nila sa inyo. Babalik ako.'
Napangiti ako at napatingin sa salamin.
Talagang nagbago na ang hitsura ko. My hair is red. The shade of red that my mom always wore. Sabi niya paborito niya itong kulay. She even joked to me once.. na may balak siyang magpadye ng buhok.
But look at me now.
Hindi nga naman nagbibiro ang tadhana.
Ibinalik ko ang papel at pinailalim ito sa aking mga damit.
I found myself staring at the mirror again.
Naalala ko lang kasi kung paano ako iniligtas ni Ares. I thought I'd never get to see him again after the claiming ceremony years ago.
First time ko pa nga siyang nakita dati and I refused to look at him dahil hindi ko matanggap ang nangyari kay mama.
Bumagsak ako sa higaan at ipinikit ang aking mga mata.
Maybe it's time I recognize him as someone who loved my mom as much as I loved her.
"Ares..." I finally got the strength to call him.
"If you're listening.. I just wanna say.. I'm sorry." I sighed.
"I'm... just so sorry.." Binuksan ko ang aking mga mata. Nakatulala ako sa kisame at paulit-ulit na naririnig ang boses ni mama.
'Alam mo Arianne kung anong kakaiba sa kanya?'
'Ano po yun?'
'Sabihin nalang natin na hindi pa siya natalo sa digmaan. Gusto niya yon. Ayaw niyang matalo talaga. Labag sa loob niyang matalo. Napaka fighter ng daddy mo. Pero nang makilala niya ako, sinabi niya sa'kin..'
Napangiti ako nang marinig ang boses ni Ares na siyang nagpatuloy...
'The first time I met you, it was easy for me to forfeit. I was ready to lose in this war of hearts. You have won my love and now, let me lose everything just to win yours.'
Sa totoo lang, I have never been fond of love stories.
But now that I heard those lines from the God of War himself...
'Ria. Be ashamed of me. I am guilty. But you, my daughter.. I will never be ashamed of. As young as you are, you have conquered battles a God never thought you could win.'
Sunod-sunod na tumulo ang aking mga luha. DARN. WHY THE HELL AM I CRYING.
'And that's why.. I'm proud of you, Ria. Your mom should be proud as well. Our little girl grew up to be someone who deserve more than the spoils of war.'
I took deep breaths while listening to him.
'I am talking to you not as a God.. but as a father. A father who realized his mistakes. A father who until now, is still in pain knowing that he has hurt his child.'
So he has known me all this time...
'Ria... Will you take that pain away.. and forgive me instead?'
I bit my lower lip. Ako yung nagsorry sa kanya kanina and now... he's the one asking me to forgive him.
"I forgive you." I whispered.
Matagal siyang nakasagot.
'I have faith in my own blood. You can and will end this war, Ria. Together with the others. You have not failed me yet so do not fail me now.'
I looked at the symbol on my wrist. We haven't lost a war at wala rin akong balak na masira ang record na yan.
We will, Ares.
We will end this.
