The sun was just barely rising over the hills as everyone slept peacefully in their beds. Almost everyone.
Bubblegum has gotten little to no sleep last night. The guilt she felt for breaking Finn's big fragile heart was the only think she could think of. When she did finally close her sleepy eyes all she could dream about was the previous events and all the horrible outcomes.
"No... No... NO!"It wasn't my fault!" Bubblegum shouted as she ran down the dark halls of her kingdom.
"YOU MONSTER!" A face appeared next to her in a flash and as quickly as it appeared it disappeared.
"SELFISH!" Another face appeared on the opposite side of her. Tears streaming from her eyes as she covered her ears and ran faster.
"No please! I didn't mean to hurt her!" The hall seemed like and endless abiss getting darker and darker as she ran. Suddenly a tall dark figure in the shadows was right infront of her. To avoid hitting it she stopped in her tracks to only trip and fall.
The figure began to step closer becoming more visible and noticeable. A sword was in his right hand and the other stain with the blood of a candy citizen.
"F... Finn?" Bubblegum looked up horrified at the site of her once loyal hero turned evil. "What happened to you?"
He looked down at her staring deep into her soul. The eyes of chaos and pain. The eyes of a psychopathic monster. The eyes of revenge.
"You couldn't let me be happy princess..." The way he said princess stung Bubblegum's heart. As if she didn't deserve the title and crown she wore high on her head. "...Well I'm done!" He shouted viciously as he raised he sword up in both hands ready to strike a fatal blow.
Bubblegum closed her eyes tightly and raised her hands up in a defense postion trying to save herself. The loud shriek of what sounded to be an owl filled the room. Bubblegum did not bother opening her eyes for she was afraid of what will be infront of her.
Bubblegum sat up quickly in bed as cold sweat dripped from her forehead. She was breathing heavily and felt around as if to figure out where she was.
Peppermint Butler opened to door to her bedroom causeing the already frightened princess to jump still gasping for air.
"Princess? Are you alright?" He asked concerned. She could do nothing but shake her yes to avoid reliving the horrific nightmare.
"Yes I am fine." She pulled at the covers nervously. "May I ask you something Peppermint Butler?"
"But of course Princess." He replied respectfully.
"Do you believe that everything will return to normal?" She looked at him waiting silently. His face showed a shocked yet confused expression but quickly returned to normal.
"Its up to destiny whether or not things will be normal again or not. If you want my honest opinion, I believe you globbed up Princess." Bubblegum flinched at the word "princess" recalling back to her nightmare.
"Thank you Peppermint Butler." She sighed and layed back down.
"Now lets get some light in here." Peppermint Butler opened the curtains and turned to head out the room. "I will be back with breakfast."
Bubblegum brought the shirt Marceline gave her up to her nose and breathed in deeply. It seemed to calm her alittle but the dream still haunted her. She rolled over in bed refusing to close her eyes.
Peppermint Butler returned with a tray of freshly prepared food. "Breakfast is served Princess." He placed the food on a night stand next to the bed. "If you require my services just call and I'll be here." He bowed and left the room closing the door behind him.
Bubblegum was again left alone with just her thoughts. She finally got up walking to the door leaving the food untouched. Walking down the hall was bone chilling. All she could remember was the dream.
"Was it real? No it couldn't be. But was it a possible result of my actions? No, Finn would never turn on me or anyone like that... would he?" Coming back to reality Bubblegum realized she had walked all the way to the infirmary. Hesitantly she walked in and in the direction of Flame Princess's bed. When her bed came into view she pauses.
Finn was laying on the bed next to Flame Princess holding her hand with his arms around her protectively. Bubblegum stood their frozen thinking back to her dream. "A sensitive boy like him couldn't possibly do that..." she backed out of the room and accidentally runs into a rolling cart carrying medical tools. Finn jumped up holding Flame Princess closely as he scanned the room. Bubblegum hid behind an empty bed remembering what Dr. Princess said about giving Finn his space.
"Who's there?" Finn asked calmly yet stern. Bubblegum frozen. Not a single noise came from her body as she even stopped her breathing.
"I'll ask one more time, Who's there?!" This time Finn sounded more angry. Bubblegum didn't know what to do. If she showed herself Finn would be mad. If she didn't Finn would be mad. She decided to bolt out the door not looking back.
Finn held onto Flame Princess's hand tighter and check to see if she was any warmer. She felt exactly the same as if nothing changed. "Don't worry Princess, I'll protect you..."
Bubblegum ran into the hallway and straight into Dr. Princess. "Pardon me I-I didn't see you there Dr." Bubblegum immediately apologized.
"Its fine Princess Bubblegum, did you go in there where Finn is?" Dr. Princess asked unphased.
"You knew Finn stayed the night?" Bubblegum look completely confused.
"We had no choice. He refused to go into his bed and rest so we let him stay. Lady and Jake however had to leave so the patients could rest." She replied peeping into the infirmary. "I suggest you head over to Lady's house while I handle these two."
Bubblegum knew that there were no other options and reluctantly called her Marrow with a loud bird call. The Marrow appeared in a flash and was gone in the next second.
Dr. Princess hesitantly entered the infirmary invade Finn was ready to act in fear of his princess getting hurt. "Finn, are you awake?"
Finn pushed the curtain back next to Flame Princess's bed as his answer. He had not looked up for her was fixated on he sleeping beauty. He brushed a lock of her hair back that was no longer glowing bright and flickery. It reminded him of the first night they met when she fell into his arms after getting wet from the rockets Bubblegum left on his roof.
The thought of how great his feelings were for Bubblegum then, made him sick to his stomach.
"How was she during the night?" Dr. Princess broke the silence. Finn began to blush and opened his mouth to explain that he did not do a thing to Flame Princess. "I meant how did she sleep, Finn. Did she get any warmer? Make a noise by any chance or even move?"
Finn's blush grew brighter as he felt alittle ashamed for even thinking that in this situation. "She didn't do anything." He said softly. "Will you be able to wake her up today?" He asked quickly.
Dr. Princess was a bit shocked by this sudden outburst. All she could do was shake her head. "Until I figure out exactly what went wrong, I can't even begin treatment tests." The look of disappointment on Finn's was was heartbreaking. "I'm sorry Finn, there's just nothing I can do right now."
Finn held his head low trying to hold back the tears. He collapsed to his knees and began to cry with little strength to carry on.
Dr. Princess wrapped her arm around his shoulder. "I can't promise I'll be able to bring her back, but I promise I'll try my hardest." Finn looked up at her with red eyes filled with tears. All he could do was cry more as Dr. Princess attempted to comfort him.
Bubblegum had arrived at Lady's house. The ride seemed to last forever but only took a few minutes. She slid gracefully off the oversized bird and headed for the door. Just inches a way she froze her hand up ready to knock on the wooden door. "Glob what am I doing here? There is no telling how they feel about me now. Jake probably hates my guts and Lady will shun me forever!"
Her thoughts were interrupted by the chatting of some near by bugs.
"Just knock!" The blue bug squeaked.
"Do you think she knows how to knock?" The red one whispered to the others.
"Hey Lady! Do you know how to knock?" A purple bug crawled up to the door squeaking just like the first but higher pitched. "Its like this!" The bug surprisingly knocked heavily on the door.
"No no no Mr. Bug please." Bubblegum panicked snapping back to reality once again. The door opened and they were greeted by an emotionally confused Jake.
"Hi Mr. Dog this lady didn't know how to knock so I helped." It said cheerfully. Bubblegum could do nothing but blush a hot pink shade.
"Thanks Buggy." He said trying to sound happy. "I'm guessing you would want to come in?" He questioned the blushing princess.
"If you do not mind, yes please." Jake opened the door wider to let her in. Bubblegum hesitantly walked to the couch were Lady was resting.
" 안녕하세요, 공주 풍선 껌." Lady said holding her head barely off the couch's arm rest. She obviously had little to no sleep last night either.
"Hello Lady." Bubblegum responded. Jake walked over and sat next to Lady and Bubblegum. Lady and Jake exchanged looks and turned to face Bubblegum.
"Princess, we need to talk." The words came out of Jake's mouth as if they were painful to even say. Let alone hear.
