lucas smiled, replaying the latest snapchat video on his story. bela, sitting across from him on the bed, laughed at the sound of his stupid, sarcastic voice playing from his phone. she felt something tug at her heart but dismissed it immediately.
his eyes met hers, and he stopped playing the video. "is everything okay?" he asked, smiling nervously at her.
she nodded her head. "yeah. just thinking," she mumbled, closing her eyes and allowing herself to fall back onto his bed.
he stopped for a moment, unsure of what to do. he then hesitantly joined her, resting his back on the soft, warm blanket and staring wide eyed at the ceiling above him. his palms laid on top of his stomach. "what are you thinking about?" he asked.
she opened her eyes, allowing herself to turn her head to face him. you. "stuff," she lied.
he also turned his head, chocolate brown eyes gazing into light brown. he blushed at the quiet intimacy, hoping she couldn't see the rush of heat on his cheeks. "i'm terrible at giving advice, but if you need someone to talk to, i'm here," he said, and then after a pause, he whispered, "always."
her eyebrows reflexively furrowed, though it was barely noticeable. she could hear the beating of her own heart loudly in her chest. realizing she had been staring at him for quite a while, she let out a small, breathless laugh, nodding lightly. "i know you are. thank you," she said.
and he smiled in return, turning his head back to face the ceiling and closing his eyes. he allowed himself to relish in this moment, at midnight, with the quiet hum of the night outside and the nice breeze gushing in through the window, as he lay on his warm bed next to a girl who made him feel more wonders than humanly imaginable.
