As I passed through the city of Hope,
I heard a little girl singing,
An unknown song in her native language,
To her music she was dancing.
"What is she singing?", I asked a man, But he turned a deaf ear and walked away,
I sighed and watched his retreating figure,
Before he stopped, crumbled and flew away.
I stayed and watched the small girl, Her brown locks swaying in harmony, Her flowy dress blowing in the breeze,
Looking happy, contrasting my melancholy.
And as the years passed by,
The images by now were all blurred, Her joyous heart contradicted my sorrowful one,
As debris and ash replaced my world.
