"Oh, man," Benny said. "Why couldn't we be at home watching 'So You Think You Can Fly' and eating a triple meatlover's pizza with extra meat?"
Ethan, Benny, and Ellie were hunched under a desk in one of their high school's classrooms. They each leaned against the back of the desk, extremely tired from hiding and running for hours on end.
"Yeah, instead our teachers could bash in here any second and scoop out our brains like chip-dip," Ethan agreed. The three huddled beside of each other for comfort as they continued to be scared out of their minds.
"Do you think we could outrun them?" Benny suggested.
"We don't have to outrun them. We just need to outrun you," Ellie told him.
Benny rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I think they'd rather go for your brains first, honour roll."
"Where's Sarah? We could really use her help right now," Ellie panted.
"I don't think she's in a very 'helping' mood today. Neither were you, now that I'm thinking about it," Benny said to her, with Ethan nodding in agreement.
"You both know why I didn't help you two!" Ellie defended.

9:15 am
"I'm not breaking anyone's arms or smashing anyone through a wall for that," Sarah told the two boys. Ellie nodded with her.
"Yeah, and I'm not taking off my bracelet just because he called you two... what was it?" she asked.
"Teethan."
"Benny Rabbit."
Ellie couldn't help but snicker. "Okay, that's kinda funny."
"It's not what he says, it's how he says it," Benny explained.
The science teacher, Mr. Henson, snapped to the three freshmen to get in the classroom.
"Right with you, sir," Benny assured. "If we're not there in five minutes, start boring kids without us." Ellie elbowed him and assured their science teacher that they would be there.
"Guys, forget it. I have a field trip to the art gallery. Lucky me!" Sarah complained, leaving the nerds behind.
The boys looked desperately to Ellie, wanting her to help them out and do something.
"I can't, sorry," she said, walking through the classroom door. "Don't wanna risk it, Benny Rabbit."
"...It's kinda cute when she says it."

"I never thought that my teachers would ever see me as the last bottle of beer on Hockey Night in Canada, but here we are," Ellie panted to the two boys as they were still hunched under the desk.
"We are so dead!" Ethan gulped.
"It's not fair," Benny added. "Why wouldn't we get some sort of sign that this would happen?"
"Were you not listening to me during chemistry? Like, at all?" Ellie blurted out. "I warned both of you that something looked weird, and you both said nothing!"
"We didn't believe you!" Ethan exclaimed.
"OBVIOUSLY!"

Ethan, Benny, and Ellie filed into the classroom, sitting down at their regular seats and putting their bookbags beside of them on the ground.
As Ellie took out all of her notebooks, she looked up at their science teacher as he seemed to be staring at the blackboard.
She furrowed her eyebrows. "What's he doing?"
Benny looked to see what she was talking about and saw him staring. "Probably just thinking of which torturing method to use on us today," he replied.
Mr. Henson held his coffee cup to his face and grabbed his chalk.
"Bromine, Aluminum, Nitrogen... Brain," he mumbled.
Ellie was completely dumbfounded, turning to Ethan and Benny to see their reactions, until she saw that they didn't even have one.
She smacked them on the arms.
"Are you not seeing this?" Mr. Henson continued to mumble and write the word 'brain' on the board several times. They shrugged in response.
"Looks normal to me."

All of the teachers were reaching through the window of the door that kept Ethan, Benny, and Ellie away from the brain-hungry zombies.
Ethan decided to take matters into his own hands, hitting them with the classroom fire extinguisher from the wall. When that didn't go exactly as planned, Ethan unlocked the bottle and sprayed the zombies with it, causing the teachers to cower away in harm.
"They hate this stuff!" he exclaimed, spraying them some more. "If it lasts, we should be able to hold them off until Sarah gets back."
"Sarah is coming back, right?" Benny asked, still wrapped with Ellie under the desk.
"I'd imagine! I mean, we're the most important things in her life, right?" Ethan assumed.

9:35 am
"So, you both don't believe me?" Ellie asked them, genuinely surprised.
"Not really, El. He seems fine," Ethan told her, pointing to him. Mr. Henson looked at his cup and excused himself from the classroom, mumbling.
"I think what he means is, 'Text freely amongst yourselves'!" Benny announced to the class, pulling out his phone.
Ellie shook her head and grabbed her phone. "I'm calling Sarah; something is seriously wrong here."
"What's your deal?" Benny asked, pausing her anxiety for a moment. "Loosen up a bit. We just got a free period."
"I know, but it's still weird," Ellie leaned into him, leading Benny to give her a small peck.
"If you two are gonna make out, do it in a third-wheel-free zone," Ethan joked. "I'll call her."
As Ethan was on the phone with Sarah, Ellie pulled out her and Benny's spellbook and began to take notes from it.
"Why are you writing down spells?" he asked. "Did you finally agree on beating up that guy? Just so you know, his name is Scott, he's tall and—!"
"What? No," Ellie said. "I'm just writing down ones that we should memorize in case we need them. We can't just keep running back to our book every time we need something, you know?"
"Ooh, does that mean I get to spend more time with the best witch in Whitechapel? Sweet!" he smirked. They smiled at each other and began to read the book together. Once Ethan got off the phone with Sarah, he turned to the two.
"Apparently, Sarah's teacher is acting weird, too," he said.

"I don't think this will hold much longer," Ethan exhaled, still trying to spray the zombies with the remains of the fire extinguisher. Benny kept Ellie under the desk, took a lab chair, and started to swing at the zombies in the door.
"Ellie, Benny, you two don't happen to know any anti-zombifying spells, would you?" he asked.
"Are you kidding? We were supposed to study and memorize spells tonight, but you can probably tell that it didn't work out as planned," Ellie answered from the desk. "Maybe we should call Rory?"
"Rory?!" Ethan yelled.
"Is it that bad?!" Benny also yelled.
"Well, he said that he wanted to protect the innocent!" she defended.

As the three geeks were making their way down the hallway, another mumbling teacher stumbled down the hall holding a cup of coffee in their hand.
"There goes the French teacher, Ms. LeFluer," Ethan said. "She's not looking too good, either."
"Yeah well, she's also a teacher so who 'le-heck' cares?" Benny chuckled from his own joke as Rory ran up to them, standing heroically.
"Greetings, mortals!" he exclaimed.
"You look... stranger than usual," Ethan pointed out.
"Very perceptive, mortal. Of course, you are among the very few who know my real secret identity."
Rory unbuttoned his over-shirt to reveal his shirt that read 'RV.'
"Rory Keaner: Vampire Defender of the Innocent!"
"Hark! A cry for help!" he noticed. "Someone is in need of... brains. RV away!"
Rory began to run to the other side of hallway, leaving the three to themselves.
"You mean, someone else is in need of brains?" Benny asked. "You know, maybe he's finally gonna meet his soulmate after all."
Ethan and Ellie laughed at his joke as they continued down the hall.
