flowing, flowery dresses,
that ripple and rise
like blooming flowers
on a hot summers day.
children run with
sticky mouths,
watermelon hands
and the melodic laughter and squeals that rise
like the hot air,
that grazes the flushed cheeks
of a young teenage couple.
they hold hands and smile innocent, loving smiles
the secretive, happy smiles.
they look down at the children
that scream in delight
as a scruffy dog shakes pool water from its fur
they smile at each other like they are their own children
laughing and holding hands
like an old married couple
the girl wears a dark blue cable knit sweater
over her flowy magenta dress
it's too big to be hers; it falls past her waist
smooth and soft material
that curled over her hands like mittens
he takes one hand in his
and covers it over his mouth
she blushes faintly as he gives her a kiss
smiling on the back of her hand.
for a second
it's just them:
two teenagers,
in their own world
hopelessly in love,
before a child screams in delight,
pointing at their intertwined hands.
his face scrunches in confusion and fear.
be careful! it's cooties. she's got cooties.
he laughs in delight and kisses her hand again.
the little boy turns and runs off laughing
as the girl turns up to look
and the handsome, grinning boy before her.
you're hopeless.
she laughs, shaking her head.
he grins down; an adorable grin that shows dimples and sparkles in his eyes.
maybe i'm just hopelessly in love with you.
