(THE NEXT WEEK....)
(AT ROCKY'S HOUSE..)
(ROCKY) My Mom said called me earlier and told me that we need to have a serious talk about something. I can't imagine what this could be about. Maybe its because I stayed out all night last night hanging with Trevor and Jason. Damn I guess I'll be on punishment for a month...or more.
As I was sitting on the couch watching Black Ink Crew, the front door opened. I guess I'll accept my punishment like a man.
"Hello son."
"Dad????? What are you doing here? We weren't supposed to see you til next week."
"I got all my work done early so I could spend some time with my family."
"If this is about me staying out all night I can explain."
"What?"
"Uhhhhh....scratch that."
"O....K.....Where's your mom? She told me she'd be here by the time I arrived."
"I don't know...maybe she's stuck in traffic."
"Let's be honest when has your mother ever been on time for anything."
"You got a point there."
We both laughed
"I'm gonna go upstairs and put my things away and I'll be back down. Maybe then your mother'll be here. And by the way, where were you last night?"
"Ummmmm....can we talk about that later. I know you're eager to go take a shower and put your things away."
Dad gave me "the look"
"I'll let it go...for now, bit you've got some explaining to do Mister."
"Yes sir."
Dammit!!! Me and my big mouth. He had no clue that I was out and about last night. I definitely going to get grounded now.
About ten minutes later, the door opened. It was Mom
"Hey sweetie."
"Hey Mom."
"Would you be a dear and grab the remaining groceries out of the trunk?"
"Yes ma'am."
I walked to the car and grabbed the five bags that were in the trunk and I closed the trunk down and I went in the house.
I went into the kitchen and I put the bags on the counter.
Mom kissed me on the jaw
"Thanks honey."
"You're welcome Mom."
"Has your father mad it yet?"
"Yeah he's upstairs freshening up."
"Good. I also need to talk to him about signing some insurance forms, but that can wait."
"What is it you really wanted to talk to me about?"
Mom looked at the floor
Dad walked into the kitchen
Dad walked over to Mom and kissed her
"How was your trip my love?"
"Australia was great,but I missed my family. "
I looked at both of them
"You two can discuss that later. Right now let's take care of the matter at hand. Why did you want to see me Mom? Is it because of last night?"
Mom gave me a confusing look
"What happened last night?"
FUCK!!!!
"Nothing that I know of..."
My cheeks turned red
Mom looked at Dad
Then she looked at the floor
"Son take a seat.", said Dad
I sit down at the kitchen table
They sit down
If this isn't about last night then what the hell could this be about?
(AT TARREN'S APARTMENT...)
(TARREN) I'll be glad as hell when Carly gives birth. Damn she's huge. She moved in last week. We were sitting on the couch watching TV when Jason and Tyler came from Tyler's room.
" Look who finally decide to come up for air.", I said
"Bastard.", said Tyler
I threw a pillow at him
" Hey Carly.", said Jason
"Hey Jason how are you?"
"I'm fine...I guess."
Jason looks over at Tyler
"Anywho... I have a great idea for today."
"And what might that be your majesty.", said Tyler
Smartass
" I was thinking that we'd all go bowling tonight."
"I haven't been bowling in forever. I'm down. We don't have any else to do.", said Tyler
" Bowling sounds like a good idea. Count me in", said Jason
"Carly?"
Carly looked at me like I was crazy
"Have you forgotten that I'm 8 months pregnant. There's no way I'll be bowling tonight."
"Well can you come for moral support."
"Now that I can do."
I kissed her on the lips
My phone rang
It's Mom
"HELLO MOM"
"HEY HONEY HOW ARE YOU DOING TODAY?"
"I'M FINE MOM...HOW THE TRIP GOING?"
"WELL YOUR FATHER IS IN THE JACUZZI. I SNEAKED OUT FOR A MOMENT TO CHECK ON MY TWO FAVORITE SONS."
"MOM WE'RE YOUR ONLY TWO SONS."
"AND I LOVE YOU BOTH. WHERE'S TYLER?"
"HE SITTING RIGHT ACROSS FROM ME."
"TELL HIM I SAID THAT WE PUT THAT EXTRA MONEY IN HIS ACCOUNT. AND BEFORE YOU GO ALL CRAZY YES WE PUT SOME MONEY IN YOURS AS WELL."
"Ty, Mom says the money's in your account."
"Tell Mom I said thanks and that I love her."
"HE SAID THANKS AND THAT HE LOVES YOU."
"HE DIDN'T LOVE ME ENOUGH TO ANSWER THE PHONE THIS MORNING."
"WE WAS OUT JOGGING. YOU KNOW WE HAVE TO KEEP OURSELVES IN SHAPE."
"OH YES I KNOW. WELL I'LL TALK TO YOU LATER. YOUR FATHER'S CALLING MY NAME."
"ALRIGHT MOM. LOVE YOU."
"LOVE YOU TOO."
"BYE."
"BYE."
I hung up the phone
"So what time are we leaving?", asked Carly
"7:00 or 7:30."
"Which one is it?"
"Hmmmmmmm well of we all start getting ready now we should arrive around 7:15."
"Great I'll go shower.", she said
She gets up and goes to our bedroom
I'm almost certain she'll be in there for at least a hour
Why the hell do women do that?
(BACK AT ROCKY'S HOUSE....)
(ROCKY) I tapped my fingers on the kitchen table waiting for my parents to tell me what the hell is going on.
" Maybe we should just tell him. We've kept him in suspense for long enough.", said Dad
Mom wipes a tear from her eye
"You're right. Its time."
Dad intertwines his fingers with Mom's
Mom sighed
"Rocky we have something important to tell you. I don't want you to overreact when we tell you. This isn't just gonna be hard on you, but its hard on us as well.", said Mom
" We were gonna tell you when we found out, but I suggested that we wait awhile. I don't know know why I did that.", said Dad
Mom looks Dad in the eyes
"Well?"
"I have cancer."
In that moment my mind stayed focused on those three little words.

"ROCKY!!!!!!!", said Dad
Tears fell from my eyes
" I knew he would react this way.", said Mom
"How else would you want me to react? You've just revealed to me that you have cancer."
"Son the doctors caught it early. They say I have a good chance at beating this."
"Maybe we can try a bone marrow transplant. I read somewhere where this dude gave his Mom some bone marrow and she recovered."
"Son that was on Guiding Light when Jonathan gave Reva some bone marrow.", said Dad
" Oh yeah it was....but do you think it'll work?"
"I don't know I didn't think of it. What do you think Doug?"
"It worth looking into Sharon. We should definitely talk to your doctors."
"I'll even get my blood tested to see if I'm a match."
"I think that's a good idea son. As a matter of a fact I think we both should."
"There's something else we have to tell you."
Dad looks at Mom
"Do we really have to tell him? I mean he's 16 going on 17. He's never know the difference. Why ruin his life like this? "
"Doug you know we agreed to do this in case something happens."
"I understand why you're doing this. I just don't want us t lose our son over this."
"We'll lose him either way. He would find out eventually. A few people in our family know. If I die one of them is going to tell him. I know my mother would. She's almost let is slip out last year at the 4th of July BBQ."
"Dad what is Mom talking about?"
"I'll let her tell you. She knows this story better than I do."
"Well before you were born I was in a relationship with this other guy. Me and this other guy were in a relationship. He was a very sweet guy, but his father on the other hand was a real son of a bitch. While I was dating this other guy I met your father. I knew then and there that I had met my soulmate. Even though he was a Senior and I was a sophomore that didn't matter to me. Well I went to the other guy and I told him that I had met someone phenomenal and that I wanted to see where it all could lead to. Surprisingly he didn't get mad or angry. He told me that he knew about Doug and he also told me that he had also met someone new. We parted ways. That left me and your father to be together. But there was one problem. I started feeling sick on the stomach. I thought it was the stomach flu or something so I decided to go to the doctor. They tested me for everything. I didn't have the stomach flu. I was pregnant. My parents were livid. They soon got over it though. I told Doug next. He told me that we'd work this out. I gave birth to a healthy baby boy that following August. You were so beautiful. I named you Rocky because me and Doug went on a trip to the Rocky mountains while I was pregnant. It was the best trip I had ever been on. I wanted to keep a piece of that trip with me forever."
"I don't understand. Why is this relevant?"
"What your mom is trying to say is...."
Doug sighs
"I'm your father in every way that counts but we don't share any blood. I'm not your biological father."
"What's his name?"
NO ONE SAID ANYTHING
"WHAT'S HIS NAME????", I screamed
" Scott....Scott West.", my Mom said
OMG Scott's my biological father?
"Why didn't you tell me this before?"
"Because me and your mother loved each other deeply. Your mother was already pregnant with you when we met. When she told me the news I couldn't get mad because it was before my time. When I told your mom we'd work it out I meant every word. You and your mom are my world. You are my son dammit. No amount of blood will ever determine our relationship.", said Doug
"Why didn't Scott ever try to be apart of my life?"
"Because he doesn't know you're his son. I never told him. I couldn't. I couldn't have you caught up in that family drama. Scott's sister Lisa was pregnant at the same time. Their father Russell was ruthless and nasty as can be. I did not want you near that family. Russell would have taken you from me and I never would have seen you again of the truth had come out. I did the only thing I knew how to do. I told everyone that Doug was your father and he is your father. He's been with me every step of the way. He always tell me that he's the lucky one, but in reality I'm the lucky one. Doug came into my life and gave me everything a woman could ever want in a man. I don't regret a single thing."
Well Mom had a point
"I think its time we tell Scott. I mean he will understand that you did this to protect me. I know Scott. He's a fair man. He will understand. Mom please?"
"I don't know Rocky. I just don't know. I'll sleep on it and let you know what I decide."
I'm not as mad as I thought I would be. Knowing Scott's my biological father makes Jason my cousin. Wow!!!!! Jason's my cousin. I'm definitely going to tell him the news. But I'll never deny my Dad. He's the best. He loves me undeniably and I love him back. No man can replace him in my life. He's my real Dad. He means everything to me.
Right now my main focus is seeing my mom through this cancer ordeal. We're gonna fight the with all our might. With us and God driving this train we're gonna be unstoppable. Mom will not die anytime soon. She's a fighter. She will beat this. Me and Dad are gonna be with her every step of the way. Even if I have to quit school.
