I ask the lady with the clipboard and funny glasses when Daddy's going to get better.
The woman laughs nervously. “Well—” She starts, but my dad cuts her off.
“Remember the time I put a hole through that giant lizard that destroyed half the city?” He enthusiastically mimics an uppercut, but his arm snags mid-punch. He's got weird wires tying him to beeping machines. “It's kinda like that, but right here—” He places a hand over his chest. “Where there's a bad guy doing harm, it's my job to stop 'im and this time, he's in my lungs.”
The nurse sniffs.
I smile and lean forward to rest my arms on the bed's railing. He'll be able to come home soon, because my dad's the best superhero in the world. No matter how bad it gets, he never loses a fight.
