Everything went numb. All I could hear was that awful crunching sound. I snapped back into reality when Slim grabbed my hand, to run. I started to run. It was to distracted with Mort to chase us, then we found a small cave to hide in. Even if the Böse were to find us here he wouldn't be able to get us. The cave was way to small for him to fit into. Smat was fast asleep, but Slim and I were wide awake, unable to erase what had just happened from our minds. She put her head on my shoulder.
She broke the silence.
"Why did he do it? Why did he hate Smat and then sacrifice himself for him?" She stared breaking into tears.
I told her why I thought he did it.
" I think.. I think he really cared about Smat. He was tough on him, but for the short while that I knew him i was able to understand the one's he cared about most were the one's he was toughest on. He just wanted the two of you to be safe."
She fell asleep with Smat after that. We creatures of the dark don't usually need to sleep, unless we've been under a lot of stress. And today was quite a day.
We decided to head out the next morning.
