Serena's POV
What's wrong with me?
I am sitting on the bottom-most bleacher of our school ground.
I never realized this but the sky and the clouds look so peaceful at this time of the day. The birds chirping, the wind rustling the leaves and the sun giving warmth.
Perfect.
"You found a good spot for a picnic." I heard him say.
I turned my head to see him grinning at me.
The gentle breeze was flowing through his raven-hair making it dance, the sun kissing his z-marked cheeks. His eyes sparkling with childish delight and joy. Those beautiful auburn eyes.
This is what I was missing in these last few weeks.
"Yeah."
His eyes widened slightly at my small comment. His cheerful expression was replaced by a frown. But this didn't stop him from jumping down towards me, like a child and sitting beside me.
"What's wrong?" He asked, looking at me.
"You were right when you came here few weeks ago after I started dating that bimbo. This place sure does soothe ones nerves." I replied.
"Yeah, but that's not the point." He turned his head and stared into the distance.
"I know. I am just trying avoiding your question." I placed my head on my knees and hugged myself close.
We both sat there for a long time. We even heard the bell ring in the distance, indicating that lunch was over and we had to return to our classes, but me and Ash didn't budge from our spots.
We both were happy and comfortable with each other, in silence and the pleasant weather.
Perfect.
"Are you okay?" He suddenly asked.
I turned my head and I felt breathless.
Ash, he was staring off in the distance. He looked so- mature and manly right now. I have never really seen him being serious. The playfulness from his eyes was gone and now he looked blank. I always thought that he was like an open book easy to read, but it turns out that I was the real open book here. He read me. And now, I am not able to read him.
"No."
He sighed but still did not look at me. My head dropped and I stared at my feet.
"Are you scared?"
"Yes."
"Of what?"
"Love." I replied.
He looked at me while I was sulking and looking down.
"Serena Yvonne,"
I looked at him.
"You may not be comfortable in dresses, heels and make up. You may want to live like a boy. But this doesn't change your soul. You are a girl, this is a fact that will never change. Don't change for anyone. If you love someone, then don't hide it. Admit it. And if that guy doesn't like you because of whatever you are, then don't change for him, ever. Because he is blind, as he doesn't see the real you and can't find love in the real you. Be yourself. Be true to him and yourself." Ash looked into my eyes.
He is so serious.
"And," he continued, "if the person you love tells you to change or hates you for what you are, tell me, I will kill that person."
Oh well, so much for admiring the 'serious' Ash.
"I appreciate it. Thanks but no thanks. I know how to take care of myself."
Some things just never change.
"Yeah, and I am one of those things that will never change. You will be stuck with me like this forever." He laughed and rubbed the back of his neck.
I shook my head in disbelief and smiled as the boy continued to laugh beside me.
If you love someone, then don't hide it.
Admit it.
I know now.
The silly boy who is laughing beside me. The boy who is my best friend since childhood. The boy who has walked always beside me. The boy who supports me. The boy who has tried to hold my hand endlessly but always failed. The boy whom I have punched endlessly. The boy whose smile is the sun ray in my universe. The boy whose laugh is my personal favorite melody.
The boy, Ash Ketchum is the person I fell in love with.
I love him.
I love you.
"This would be so cliche if now you realize that you love me. But, sadly that will never happen. After all, my best friend is a guy and if he fell in love with me, then we would be-"
"Shut up." I hit his head.
He clutched it and dramatically whined.
Cliche.
I guess my life is like a drama-serial.
Calem's POV
"If now she doesn't realize that she loves Ash, then I am ready to announce it to the whole school."
"Yeah, they both are kids in this department. But luckily, Ash knows he loves her." Marina remarked as she looked at Ash laughing uncontrollably and Serena roll her eyes.
We both followed them after Serena walked away and Ash suddenly and nervously excused himself too. We have been spying on both of them since then. But missing classes one day because you are taking care of your friends isn't wrong, is it?
"Now that you mention it, Ash really does love her. He has been trying to cheer her up all the time."
"And succeeded too." She pointed at her smiling sister.
"Yeah. And now what about you? Didn't you-"
"Like Ash?" She interrupted me. "I did. But not anymore. In these few weeks, I realized that he is my friend, a very good friend. I don't want to lose a friend. And anyways, I found love in someone else," she trailed off and blushed and averted her eyes from me.
"Really, who?" I asked.
"Uhh, it's- it's just a dense guy." Her blush intensified.
Oh.
Sigh.
Well, I am glad she has someone she would be happy with. Obviously that isn't me. But I won't try to get her. I love her enough to let her go.
Ash's POV
"I never knew that your sister was a spy?" I commented, after my laughter had died down.
Apparently, when I excused myself from the lunch, I saw Marina drag Calem and they then followed me. They have been standing near the gate and watching us all this time.
"Hmm and seems like Mari is embarrassed about something." Sere pointed out.
Marina was looking everywhere but avoiding Calem as she blushed madly.
"She looks cute when she blushes." I chuckled.
"And Calem looks handsome when he scratches his head nervously." Sere remarked.
I whipped my head towards her and saw her smirking at me.
"You said that on purpose, just to make me jealous, right?" I raised my brow.
"Maybe." She smiled, cutely.
Oh Sere, you are gonna be the death of me.
I sighed and shook my head before looking back at our friends.
"Sere, do you think Marina likes Calem?"
"Yeah, and Calem likes her too." She answered.
I nodded my head, approvingly.
They would make one cute couple.
"They would make a great couple." Sere said as she looked at them happily.
They were laughing and Calem seemed mesmerized by Marina.
Well, the Yvonne sisters are mesmerizing.
"Yeah, and I think, we would make the coolest couple." I smirked at Sere and wriggled my eyebrows.
"Coolest and weirdest couple."
"So you agree we would be a couple?"
"Nope. Not gonna happen." She looked at me.
Blue and Auburn met. The sky and earth met. There was some kind of connection. Some kind of electricity. I could feel it. But before we could do anything, our eyes widened and we averted our gaze. I looked at the sky and Sere looked down.
I glanced at her and saw her glancing at me.
Way to make this moment more awkward.
I heard Sere groan. She covered her face with her hand and mumbled, "Please never remind me of this. Ever."
I nodded my head.
This was awkward.
But what else could I say. Me and Sere were the weirdest best friends you would ever meet.
