[previously titled the possibility of chance encounters, but it's a mouthful, so i shortened it.

i made it a point to replace the word r a p e with r@pe through the whole version of this story posted on wattpad, just so i can get rid of the "restricted" rating, and i hope doing so doesn't bother you as you read. (bc it kind of does bother me haha)

a/n as of march 2023: this was written a while back and does not reflect the quality of my writing now. i do believe this could benefit from a revision, though it's unlikely for me to work on this again in the near future. leaving it posted here anyway so do read ahead with that in mind. enjoy :)]

Chance Encounters

Summary:

Seventeen-year-old Reed had never believed in the concept of destiny and love, so when her best friend dragged her in a search for their "soulmates" one Saturday night, Reed knew it wasn't going to end well.

She couldn't have been more right, seeing as:

a.) Her best friend, convinced she had found her soulmate, disappeared with some random guy.

b.) Said best friend had Reed's purse and the car keys.

c.) Which left her no choice but to accept the offer of said random guy's friend to look for their missing companions together.

d.) Said random guy's friend was annoying, arrogant, and recklessly impulsive.

e.) Oh, and he was hot, too.

And that was only the beginning.

Author's Note:

I always thought there are two types of people in the world--the hopeless romantics and the cynics.  Most times, I tend to lean closer to being cynical about love and the concept of fate, doubtful about the existence of "true love." I tend to cringe whenever movies ended with a wedding or happily ever after, but there's still a part of me that refuses to let go of my hopes to find the closest thing there is to "true love." I realized, after much  thought, that there's a grey area between these two types. We all believe in love in varying degrees of romanticism and this--this grey area--is where most of us tend to dwell.

To that person whose heart got broken, to the one that got away, to anyone who had to watch his or her parents' marriage fall apart--to anyone who ever doubted the existence of love--this one's for you.

I will also be writing this for Camp NaNoWriMo, because I challenged myself to write 50 000 words for a story that would occur in less than twenty-four hours. I'd never written a full-length novel set to happen in one night, so there's that. :)
