Why? Because . . .
Why am I upset as this day approaches
Making lists of things to buy
Something to show my love defined
Why am I so distracted
By ads of smiling couples
Goofy-eyed and arms entwined
Cupid's arrows in their butts
That whole notion is simply nuts
Why do we need a special day
To express devotion
Like a yearly contract to reassure
In case we forget just what to say
Why can't I just concentrate
On the mundane daily chores
Cooking meals, paying bills,
Washing clothes, cutting grass
Why, because If I ignore this day
Life will take a sharp left turn
And before I know it
I'll be out the door and on my ass
