Chapter Twenty- Shocker
The plane ride is so long and I was so tired from three weeks in Hawaii that I pretty much sleep the whole way. I wake up an hour before we land. I get a text from Harry as soon as we land that he’s at the airport. We get to the luggage area and I hear the same weird whistle that I first heard when he picked me up four years ago. I turn around to find Harry smiling at me with his hands in his pockets. I instantly run towards him. When I finally get to him and I jump up and wrap my legs around his waist. He spins me around in circles. I hold on to him like he’d just died and come back to life. I’d missed him so much.
He holds the ends of my hair in his hands and looks at me with his mouth wide open, “You cut your hair!”
I nod and smile, “I’ve missed you so much!”
He sets me down on the ground and tucks a piece of my now, short hair behind my ear.
“I missed you too. I can’t believe you turned your phone off! I practically died without you!” He tells me.
I laugh. Just then Zayn walks over to us and puts one arm on my lower back. I get a sudden cramp and I grab my stomach.
“You okay?” Harry asks with concern in his voice.
I nod but it was really painful. I guessed it was just bad period cramps which I was supposed to get any day now.
When we get home Zayn leaves to go meet some old friends at a bar. I stay with Harry so I can tell him all about the honeymoon. I show him all the pictures too. Zayn had brought a profession camera so we had about a million amazing photos. They were mostly of me because he was the one taking them.
I go to the bathroom but when I stand up there’s blood everywhere. I figure it’s just my period so I put a pad on. I go back on the couch and sit across from Harry. He hands me a cup of hot chocolate he’d made and I take small sips. The cramps come back again but they weren’t the same. They were sharp and unbearable.
“Lysie you don’t look so good,” Harry comments.
“I don’t feel good either. There’s something wrong. These cramps are like the devil!” I say.
“Are you sure it isn’t just your period?”
“No, these are different. Can you take me to the hospital?” I ask him frantically.
He nods and we get in the car. On the way there I tell Zayn where I’m going and he tells me he’ll be there as soon as he can.
We run into the hospital and Harry tells them it’s an emergency. We see a doctor instantly and he does some tests. He comes back into the room with a bunch of charts. I’m squeezing Harry’s hand tightly. I was so scared.
“Mrs. Malik, did you know you were pregnant?” He asks me. My mouth drops. I was pregnant. As in, I was going to have a kid. I slowly shake my head and he sits down. “That explains it. Well you were pregnant, have been for about three weeks now but unfortunately you’ve lost the baby. Because you didn’t know you were pregnant you were treating the situation correctly and… I’m very sorry.”
My heart breaks. I was pregnant. And I lost the baby. How can someone find out such too different things at one time? It’s like being told you’ve won the lottery but then being told your best friend is dead.
I turn to Harry and cry into his neck. He rubs my back and sings to me quietly. “Shh, it’s okay Lys. Everything’s gonna be okay. You’re fine, that’s all that matters.” Harry tells me over and over again.
Suddenly Zayn shows up. I look back at him with tears in my eyes. I get up from my chair and run over to him. I wrap my arms around his neck and cry into his jacket.
Zayn gives a worried look at Harry and he points to his stomach. Zayn sets me down and looks me in the eyes.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” He caresses my face in his hands and pushes my hair back.
“I was pregnant, but we lost the baby. We lost the baby because I didn’t know and I’m so sorry.” I can see the emotions come across Zayn’s face.
“Why are you apologizing? It isn’t your fault sweetheart,” He says to me, kissing me sweetly. The salty tears on my cheeks make my face sting.
The three of us leave the hospital with complete sorrow. Harry goes back to his house and me and Zayn just sit on the couch. We could’ve had a baby. But instead it was just snatched away from us before we even knew we had one.
Zayn is tracing the lines on the palm of my hand when I look up at him.
“Zayn, I want a baby. Now that I know I had one it’s different,” I say looking into his deep brown eyes.
He nods in agreement, “Me too. We’ll keep trying. No matter what happens. We’re gonna have a baby.”
He puts on of his hands on my cheek and kisses me. I can tell he’s just as broken up about this as I am. But he was right, no matter what, we were gonna have a family one day. And until that day comes we’ll have each other. Forever.
