really, they haven't changed at all.
they chose the absolute worst hiding spots.
the plan was to blindfold jin at the door, then lead him to the couch only for us all to jump out and surprise him after jungkook sets out the cake.
well, that was the plan.
but unfortunately, due to the lack of furniture in the room:
jimin decided to hide under the couch,
yoongi decided to hide behind it,
namjoon decided to hide under the cushions of it couch,
and hoseok decided to hide above the couch on a shelf.
idiots
i opened the door after taking a final glance at them
"taehyung i've been standing here for more than five minutes what took you so long?" he said with a fake pout. i told him that i had a birthday surprise and he instantly lightened up forgetting about his wait, instantly complying when i put a blindfold on him. that didn't surprise me—he's always been very childish despite being the eldest of the BTS group.
in silence the boys waited for jin to be seated on the couch. jimin and hoseok had their hands over their mouths most likely to keep their laughs in.
he sat down and I told him to stay put for a bit, to which he nodded in response, but namjoon and jimin looked like they regretted their decisions just about now.
"jin, take off your blindfold!" I finally said after jungkook set the cake down on the table. he reached up and began to untie it when suddenly he was shocked to hear a voice that wasn't mine and he paused.
"guys I.. I can't breathe anymo- more help..." a dying voice called out from under jin as he suddenly felt the cushions moving.
"IM SORRY FOR RUINING IT BUT ME TOO!" I heard jimin call out as well.
i internally facepalmed as jin shot up from the couch and took off his blindfold. before he could turn around, hoseok fell off the shelf and jumped onto jin's back.
oh, lord.
"SURPRISE!" he screamed out which probably didn't help the situation very much.
"WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?" jin started to question, hoseok now on jins back.
slowly, yoongi came up from behind the couch, only his eyes showed peering at jin silently.
"um... surprise!" i said awkwardly.
jin calmed down and took a look around and realization flashed across his shocked face as namjoon dragged jimin's remains from under the couch.
"wait..." his eyes widened and he started jumping and squealing and basically freaking out when he realized that the old group was in front of him.
(also, hoseok was flung off his back at some point)
"WHA—YOU GUYS ARE— HOW?" he ran straight to them and gathered us all in a big hug. i'm not exactly sure how he got all six of us in the hug but maybe it had something to do with his broad shoulders.
we all collapsed to the ground still hugging.
"you guys are idiots, by the way." i mumbled out.
"shut up taehyung and let us all just be idiots together," jungkook replied.
after a while, we all separated and began to talk to one other individually about the absolute failure of a surprise we just had a couple minutes ago.
"ah... i don't care that it didn't go exactly how you wanted it to. i'm just so amazed that you're all here! it's just... unbeliebubble..."
we couldn't help but laugh at his reference to a pun his character made all those years ago. at the time, i remember jimin legitimately laughing at it for a almost a minute, but he still insists that it was acting to this day.
"you guys i wasn't actually laughing at that!" jungkook mocked a pouty jimin.
we all sat around the coffee table with the cake on it and sang the traditional song.
"i've always found birthday cakes weird." began jungkook. "it's a ritual where a large gathering of people huddles around an object and stick flaming sticks into it. then everyone chants the ritualistic song until the flames are gone, then they stab a knife into the object," said jungkook with wide eyes.
oh, this is what the fans call 'jungshook' right?
we probably sat there staring at him for a full 5 seconds before we completely just brushed it off.
a huge amount of the afternoon was spent reminiscing in, 'remember when's and 'back then's.
"are any of you dating?" asked jimin innocently changing the topic.
"yeah, you!" blurted hoseok putting his hand over his mouth dramatically slow as though to say, "whoops!" but clearly had no intention of stopping his words, considering the deviously innocent smile on his face.
"hobi~ we wanted to announce that to jin and taehyung later!" he folded his arms and pouted, but i couldn't help but feel warm inside at the way yoongi saw the action and smiled at it looking away shyly, which told me immediately who jimin was dating.
"well congratulations guys!" i said.
"seven guys on the floor~ one foot apart cause we're all gay," sang hoseok.
wait, is jungkook seeing anyone?
jungkook chuckled and look at me.
"no, lucky for you i'm not. but, you can change that if you want~" he winked at me. i flushed after realizing i said my thought out loud.
"what?" i asked embarrassed.
"kim taehyung, i can't believe you're still this dense till today," he shook his head and everyone else besides jin smiled at me. they seem to all be thinking the same thing.
"i don't get it..." i looked down. he tilted my chin up to meet his gaze.
"i've liked you ever since i met you on the set of. you were always on my mind even after it finished, but i was too shy at the time to ask you to hang out— much less go out with me," he shuffled a bit seeming to debate about what to say next. "kim taehyung. i'm going to regret it if i don't say this now, and even if the guys watching here tease us forever, will you be mine?" my face flushed at the thought. it was definitely true that he and jimin were the only ones who truly understood my weirdness, but jungkook gave me this tingling in me whenever i was with him. i can't believe it took me this long to identify it as something special. every single cell in my being screamed with passion and joy and most of all, they told me to say "yes."
and that's what i did.
"if you two don't kiss right now I don't know what i'll do," jin warned breaking our silence of staring.
we looked at each other unsurely. neither of us had the courage to initiate it, especially in front of our friends.
to our surprise, yoongi got up and blatantly pushed me onto jungkooks and we both fell to the floor.
"we can't sit here forever, you know~" jimin teased at us.
we stared at one another and I noticed jungkooks eyes flashing down time to time looking at my lips, until mine went down to look at his as well. his looked very soft and so pink. I swear my heart skipped a beat when his tongue darted out for a second to moisten them.
"screw it," I heard him mumble and he pulled my head down finally meeting my lips.
my heart is racing faster and faster every second. the sounds of our friends cheering in the background, the sound of a phone camera, and the sound of namjoon talking about how it only took 4 years; it all faded away. as I could feel was his warm body pressed against mine. all I could hear were our thundering hearts beating together and our breaths mingling. all I could taste were his sweet lips molded with mine. all I could smell was his boyish scent.
'I love him' repeated in my head like a mantra. I found my passion shocking because I only now realized that... my absolute fondness of him was love, not only as a friend, and him understanding me even when nobody else could was a real connection, not just him being understanding; my sudden urge to smile and my heart feeling full and sunny around him was only for him.
i really am dense.
we separated and the reality around us returned. jungkook and i were panting and staring into each others eyes. the boys were still cheering around us, even jin looked a little teary eyed at jungkook's confession.
"jungkook?" I said to him after a while. he looked up to meet my eyes and stared into them.
"yeah, tae?" he replied panting still.
"i love you" i said with complete certainty.
maybe it was the way he didn't hesitate, maybe it was the way he looked at me like I was going to disappear any second, maybe it was the way he held me, maybe it was the way he kissed me...
but i didn't doubt him for a second when he said it back.
"cut!" yelled the director. everyone around me relaxed and got up. no longer was i in the apartment of 20 year old kim taehyung's apartment, but in the recording building of BigHit Entertainment.
"good work everyone!" said namjoon. we all smiled kindly towards him, some returning the compliment.
"yeah, but taehyung you could really have done better today," said my smirking co-star jeon jungkook, "you kissed worse than i thought you would."
i rolled my eyes at the insult.
my name is kim taehyung, and i hate my rival jeon jungkook.

(a/n from future: that was atrocious for many reasons,, but!! even though this book is a tad (not just a tad) bit cringey i think you guys will have fun reading it; a lot of people tell me they read it again after finishing so i hope you enjoy the rest of the book from here on out, i put a lot of energy into this :)
