Chapter 3
The Gang... I Guess
.
Muffled noises reached my ears as I slowly blinked. Too bright to see I shut my eyes again, letting myself drift back to the nothingness I was in before. The noises became clearer and louder, much to my annoyance. Only then I realised it was someone speaking. I'm not alone.
"Living with that animal for an extended period has had a lying affect on her mutation. Her bone structure is more matching giving her high, flexibility and manoeuvrable perks, also being quite nimble I imagine." I let the voice drift over me, allowing it to wake me further.
"But the original hypothesis still runs true. She has taken the expected physical features and reflexes of the initial specimen, and the tests have shown that the mental sensory enhancements are at full peak, although, the overall outcome could be well improved." My mind focused on what happened. I was walking, back from... school? I was with someone. And then... Kyan.
Like a tsunami it all came back to me, hitting at full force, crushing me with the reality of it all. "Given time and special treatment, I will be able to implement your key trait and hardwire it into her brain. But I recommend starting fresh, we don't know how many flaws the cross mutation can cause in the future."
My fists curled in anger and teeth clenched, fingernails piercing my skin. A mixture of pure hatred and sadness washed over me, battling for dominance in my mind. "Termination may be our preferred option if we are to perfect the formulae." My back stiffened.
"That is enough." A new voice interjected. One I knew. "It seems our prodigy has awakened." Feeling the tingly sensation in my stomach my eyes shot open and I stood up, only to hit my head on metal and fall back down again. This earned a chuckle from trenchy.
My eyes narrowed at seeing a man suited in sharp metal beyond the bars of my confinement. "I see you're transformation has turned out quite fine." Baring my teeth I growled, the sound low and rumbling from the back of my throat, not human. Since when could I do that?
"Add fangs to the list of physical features." I backed up, edging as far away as the bars allowed from this man. This monster. I gave a small gasp when I felt the cool metal touch something that wasn't my back.
"Move her with the others. We begin lessons in the morning. Sleep well. Alex." Bucket head turned sharply and walked away as my cage was wheeled the other. My senses on high alert I twisted this way and that, trying to figure out what was going on, where I am. The hallways were dark, grey being the feature colour. The same repetitive pattern of symbol, door, random tapestry, door was lined up along the hall. When I was convince we were circling the same hallways we turned into a dead end with a heavy duty lock door and guards. Once getting the okay and passing the door, I watched it click shut behind us.
Before I could ask anything I was tipped out of the cage, landing oddly on something on the floor making me wince as pain shot through it. Sitting up I watched the doors click back shut again. Looking around the room I noticed it was white. Completely white. No windows, no furniture. Just white. With other ... things in it. I quickly scooted back, pressing myself up against a wall. Five half human half animal things stared back at me. I swallowed, panicking as I gazed at the mutants before me.
"Hi..." A half tiger spoke up ending the prolonged silence. "I'm Patrick. But you can call me Pat, if you want." His green cat eyes lingered around, avoiding eye contact. He had ears sticking out of red curly hair that blended with the orang fur covering most of his body. Fine claws reached from the end of his fingers and a tail twitched from behind his legs.
"Welcome to the gang. I guess..." I slowly stood up, easily being a head taller then most. This decreased my nerves a tad bit. "This is Avery," he gestured to a half moth beside him, smaller than me by a head. The girl had pretty flowing blonde hair and velvety beige wings with splotches of brown. Fine hairs were easily visible on her forearms and legs and antennae stuck out at angles from the crown of her head.
"Jack," now this dude was tall, like goliath tall. He looked half ape, silvery black fur riddled his body, and huge bulging muscles and abnormally large hands were main features with this kid.
"William," his pointed ears twitches at his name, bushy tail whisking on the ground. The brown hair easily blended in with the auburn on his body, his green eyes standing out terrifically against the colours. Smaller claws produced from his hand and whiskers poked out from his cheeks. He defiantly could pull off that sly fox look with his pointed like face.
"And Beth." This girl was just past my stomach, in other words, tiny. She looked like a half gecko, suction like cups at the end of each finger and the wide brown eyes, bigger than anyone should have. Her skin seemed more smooth than scaly, a soft green paling into yellow.
They all looked my age except for Beth, who was maybe seven or eight at most. "What's your name?" Okay first, what? Second, how in the hell... And third,
"I-I'm Alex." They gave a nod while looking me over. I suddenly became very self conscious. "Why am I, we here?"
"We are mutants," Jack spoke up, his voice was way deep it shocked me. "We have been tested on and changed. I've been here for three weeks, Will for two, Avery four, Beth five and Pat six. At least we think."
"Wai-wai-wai-wai-wait. I'm not a mutant. They- they can't. I'm not. H- he he, my-" I started hyperventilating, clutching my hand to my chest as silent tears trickled down my face.
"Hey, it's okay, calm down, you're safe." Will placed a hand on my shoulder, rubbing it slowly. I steadied my breathing, still crying though. "You look like you're half raven. You've got wings and some feathers in your hair, even some talons." I shakily looked at my hands and saw long sharp claws slowly retract back into normal nails.
"Did he bring anyone else?" My voice quivered as I spoke. I could feel the confusion coming in waves off of the others as I stared down at my hands. "Did he bring anyone else with me?" I yelled, making Beth and Avery jump back.
"No, just you." Pat answered. I pushed Wills hand off of me as I walked to a corner and sat. I needed to be alone. Bringing my knees up to my chest I slowly rocked, my body raking with sobs as I buried my face into my folded arms. I found control in the muscles in my wings and brought them around me, cocooning myself from the others.
He's gone. He's really gone.
