By now it was close to midnight
And you couldn't see anything
Except for the faint outlines
Of our silhouettes
Running through the streets.
"Where's the nearest store?"
I asked her
And even though she
Was slightly drunk
We seemed as alive as ever
With a sparkle in her eyes.
"I don't know."
And she grabbed my hand
And pulled me along behind her
Heading nowhere particular
But enjoying every blissful moment
Of pure freedom.
We reached a 24 hour convenience store
Roughly ten minutes later
And my stomach was moaning for gummies.
"Finally"
I muttered
As we walked into the store
Hand in hand
Like toddlers strolling around the playground.
The man behind the counter
Glanced up at us
With a bored expression
Before returning back to his newspaper.
"Let's feast, shall we?"
Rose whispered
Trying to act casual
As she eyed the cashier.
I didn't understand what she meant
But as she brought me my gummies
And fetched an Arizona
From the refrigerated section
I knew exactly what she was saying.
She took a seat
In the back corner of the store
Far away from the cash register
And hidden by aisles and aisles of food.
"We have to stay quiet
When opening the bags
Or he'll hear us"
Rose said in a hushed voice
Her breath warm and tickling my face.
I opened my gummies slowly
Careful not to make a sound.
We ate and drank and giggled
All while trying not to get caught
And the only thing I was really aware of
Was not my flaws
Or her flaws
But both of our existences
Here together
And I realized
That with her company
I would no longer be sad
Or lonely
Or do any more bad things.
