Hours have passed since I've been interrogated by her family at the dinner table. She lives a floor below and can afford this place on her own. Eesh.
I wish I could enjoy the mango-scented air, but Layla's attitude hovered over me like a fog. I couldn't blink without her staring into my soul.
"Alright," I announce while eating the last of my cake slice. "I should really be going home. My roommate would kill me if I didn't feed his pets on time."
"It's really late. He is a very busy guy."
"What do you do?" Layla blurts while crossing her hands over her knee. "You look like you sing."
"I do a bit of that, but I mostly rap."
"Let me hear you."
You can't hit a girl. You can't-
"He's very busy," Ines says as if it wasn't clear the first time.
I say my goodbyes to her family before being drug out the apartment completely. Ines had a strong grip and I was used to it by now.
