"I'm headed out, don't forget to feed the fish" I said while collecting my keys.
"Okay, MOM!" Said my best friend Alicia. "Hey, don't forget you're going with me to the opening night at Wrigley Field after work".
I roll my eyes. "Trust me, I won't forget. You have reminded me eight times since yesterday morning."
"Well this is big for me."
"Explain to me why this is so big again."
"And this is why I have to remind you so many times. I feel like when I speak, my words go into one of your ears and out the other."
She waits for me to respond but I don't. She has a point. I tend to causally listen to her but I never actually withhold anything she tells me.
"OMG Adrian, you seriously don't remember?"
I choke on my words. I feel like I should remember but nothing is coming to mind. Guilt begins to rise and I break into a small sweat just with the way she is looking at me. I give her a guilty grin and she just rolls her eyes.
"I entered the athletic contest and won the chance to pitch the first ball of the game. Ringing any bells now?"
"Duhh I remember. I was just kidding around. How could I forget that."
I quickly turn around to grab my purse from the couch so she couldn't see the sarcasm in my face but who was I kidding. This girl has known me for years. She knew I was pulling that response from thin air.
"Yeah yeah, whatever. Just don't forget!"
"I won't!" I give her a reassuring smile before I slip out of the apartment.
I decided to stop by my favorite quick cafe before going into work. Solely because I needed to prepare myself for the upcoming shift. I have a coworker who is just insanely annoying and I always leave with an enormous headache, so I could use the energy boost from coffee.
"Adrain, my dear, long time no see!" Says Colby.
He's the owner of the shop and has had a cute crush on me since the first time I walked into his cafe.
"Hi Colby. How are you?"
"I'm doing better now doll face. Are you staying awhile?"
"Unfortunately I have to head to work and I'm kinda in a rush. Could I please just have a mocha latte. But I'm begging you, please hit me with two shots of espresso!!"
"I'm on it. Anything for you my love."
I shake my head and giggle to myself as I stand off to the side waiting for my drink. I get on my phone to check the time and just as I do so, a message from my boyfriend Nick appears on my screen.
"Hey babe, about next week....I can't come to Chicago. I just got a promotion at my job and my boss wants me to stick around and help with a new project. I hope you don't mind. I'll call you later. Love ya! XO"
Before I could even respond, Colby calls my name and hands me my drink.
"How much do I owe you?"
Colby shoots me a worried look and I give him a confused look in return.
He wipes a tear from my cheek that I didn't realize was there and says, "It's on the house. I hope you're okay."
I give him a shy smile and whip around to try and leave before embarrassment overwhelms me. But before I could do so I crashed into what felt like a brick wall. I quickly pulled myself on to my feet.
"I am so so sorry. I didn't see you th —"
I quickly stop in my tracks when I realize exactly who I had just bumped into.
"Hi Adrian."
It was the one and only Chase Morgan!!!
Chase was my high school sweetheart who had decided I wasn't good enough for him right before leaving for law school. Would it be awkward to admit that up until a few months ago I stalked his Instagram? It had been almost 5 years since I seen him in person. He was much bigger now. He stands about 6'2 give or take a few. He has huge broad shoulders that you could see very clearly through his baby blue button up. His hair was shorter now. Curls went left and right, one dangling on his forehead. But his eyes were just as I remembered. A light somber blue with a tint of gray.
He began to blush and looked away, so I could only imagine how long I had been staring.
"Umm....hi... chase."
Well that was smooth Adrian.
"How are you?" he asks with a sly smirk on his face.
"I'm okay. Never better actually. How about you? Are you finally that big lawyer you always planned to be?"
He turns away from me for a second and turns back with a blank look on his face.
"Umm, yeah. I actually started my own firm."
"Wow. That's great. I'm really happy for yo —"
Just before I could finish my sentence I get a text from my boss.
"Party of 26 coming in about 15 minutes. I hope you're almost here!"
My gaze met back with chase and he gave me a smile.
"I'm guessing you have to run. Can I at least give you my phone number? Maybe we could catch up sometime?"
It takes me a second to realize what he had just asked but before I could respond he took my phone from my hand and entered his phone number and saved it under...."first love". I simply shook my head and tried to bite back a smile before placing my phone back in my pocket.
"Text me."
I decided not to respond. I just smile and walk out without looking back.
Luckily my job was a few blocks away. I ran as fast as I could through the crowded sidewalks, weaving through bodies until I was about a hundred feet away from the main entrance of my job.
I walk in and I was immediately approached by Lacey, my annoying coworker.
"Hi so I asked frank if I could have the big table of 26 and he told me to ask you so here I am to ask you if I can have the big table but don't worry if you want it I will let you have it I just thought that since maybe you —"
I cut her off by putting my hand up. I knew that if I let her finish that one sentence I would be through half of my shift before she even got close to the end.
"I think I'll just take it. We have a lot of servers here for a Wednesday morning. I don't think I'll make much money if I don't take it. Thanks for your concern though."
She simply gives me a sad smile and walks away. Sometimes I feel bad for the way I talk to her but a person can only take so much.

Not soon enough, it's 5'oclock and my shift is coming to a much needed end. I go to the computer on the back counter and clock out. I made more than I anticipated so my mood wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I quickly jog home to meet up with Alicia who is oddly enough, lying on the living room floor.
"Why? Just why?" I ask as I walk through the front door.
"I'm meditating, you should try it. Maybe it will help reduce the frown lines you have forming on ur face."
I go to respond with something witty but I quickly come to a stop when I remember my encounter before work.
"I'm gonna let you slide with that one only because I don't wanna fight with you. Much more importantly, you will never believe who I ran into today!"
Alicia quickly sits up and gives me the look you give someone when you know they have tea.
"Spill!"
I tell her about the event and everything leading up to it. She first questions the situation between me and Nick. After talking about that for a good 30 seconds we begin talking about... Chase.
"So are you gonna text him or not?"
"I dunno. Should I?"
"I mean the angel on my shoulder is telling me to give you good advice."
I give her a puzzled look.
"And that being?"
"Well it's been years. But even after a life-time could you forgive him for breaking your heart they way he did? He literally dumped you on graduation night and you cried about it until sophomore year of college. You are finally in a spot in your life where you are content. Do you want to go back to the fragile you?"
"It's not like we are going to get back together. I'm with Nick now. It would just be to catch up."
Even while saying that I knew that I somewhat hoped that he still showed some kind of interest. I knew deep down that I had some type of feelings for him still but I loved my current relationship. I wouldn't jeopardize that. Right?
"Well then go for it! What's stopping you? If you know it won't turn into some huge debacle then I don't see the harm in catching up with an old friend."
I ponder on whether or not to text him but I finally come to the conclusion that maybe texting him right away wasn't the best option. I didn't want him to get the wrong idea and besides, it's not like he's by his phone waiting for me to contact him.

Alicia, Zach (Alicia's boyfriend), Lucas (my other roommate and bestie), and myself all attend the game at Wrigley field. Unfortunately Alicia was not the overall winner of the contest so she didn't get to throw the first pitch in the game but us four still had a blast. After leaving the game we all decided to head back to the house for a movie night. We all cozied up in the living room and began watching our favorite movie, The Cat in the Hat.
My phone goes off and I glance down to see an unknown number. I decide to leave the room and answer.
A very familiar voice was on the other end.
"So were you not planning on contacting me?"
"Chase?" I ask. Suddenly my breathing became heavy. "How did you get my number?"
"Questions for a later date. You never answered my question."
"I'm sorry. What was your question again?"
"Were you planning on contacting me or not....Adrian?"
:how do you respond to that when you don't even know the answer?
But anyway...with this being my first story and all I would like to know how I did with the first chapter.
-how's the length
-how's the POV which will change between characters throughout the story later on.
-what kind of drama should I incorporate through out the story. Bcuz I have a few ideas !! :
