Jess's POV
I was scurrying around the hotel room, trying to find the earring i had stuffed in my purse in a rush. I heard his knock on the door.
"Just one minute!" I sang out, zipping up the back of my dress and slipping on my shoes.
I rushed to the door and greeted him with a small hug, again not exactly knowing how to greet him, considering i don't really know what we are to each other. "Hey!" I said with a smile, "I'm almost ready, just give me 2 minutes!"
"Take your time Jess, Mom won't mind."
I flicked off on the curling iron and put my makeup back into it's small bag. "I'm ready!"
He handed me my coat, and helped me put the arms in. We took the elevator down to the Lobby, and out into his car. "You realize my Mom is super excited to meet you?" He laughed.
"Really?" I blushed.
"She's called me like 4 times today, asking me what kind of stuff you like and making sure chicken and veggies is okay with you!" He laughed.
I laughed along with him, that's adorable. "That's so sweet!"
"Just please remind her that you aren't my girlfriend, she'll make us pose in front of the tree in the backyard or something." He said laughing.
"I'll be sure to!"
We pulled into his mother's house a little while later. It was a beautiful suburban home, with a beautiful front yard. Amid the rain, it looked ready to step out on the front lawn for a BBQ or summer party.
His mother was already in the door, dressed to the nines, waiting for us to come in. Jason came over to my side and opened the door for me. "Hey Mom!" He said, hugging her and kissing her cheek.
She smiled, and looked over at me. I slipped off my shoes and put my hand out in front of me.
She ignored my hand gesture and brought me in for a friendly hug. Jason was behind her shrugging his shoulders. "I told you!" He smiled.
"It's okay." I mouthed back.
She loosened her grip and then took a step away from me, giving me space to take off my coat.
"Thank you for having me over for supper, Ms Mitchell."
"Honey, my name is Jennifer! And it's my pleasure!" She smiled.
Their house layout was much different than my own. The kitchen was in the front of the houses, the dining room and living room were situated more towards the back of the house.
I took a seat at the table next to Jason.
"We're just waiting on Jason's sister, Sarah. She's always late, she should be hear any minute." She was looking at her watch, and I could tell she was embarrassed but I honestly didn't care. It didn't make a big difference to me.
5 minutes later, the front door swung open and who i assumed was Sarah walked in through the door. Her hair was dripping wet, behind her a boy with his hood up walked in and closed the door behind him.
"Hi Mom, this is Justin." I heard her say.
I shot my head up and make straight eye contact with Justin. What the fuck is going on?
He looked scared and confused, and more than anything embarrassed. I was embarrassed too, this is one of the most awkward situations I've ever been in, in my whole life.
Jason was staring at me, I could feel it. I picked at the skin on the outside of my nail, this cannot be fucking happening. I never put my head up, because I knew if I did I'd come face to face with that god damn puppy look. The one that gets me every time.
How the hell does this world work? Out of 7 billion people in the world, this happens?
Jason knows about Justin and I, I told him but I'm guessing Sarah doesn't know and his mom certainly doesn't.
Jason stood up, "Sarah, this is my friend Jess." He introduced her.
"Your friend?" She asked, putting quotations on the word friend.
I smiled, and shook her hand, trying to ignore the way Justin was staring at me. "Nice to meet you!"
"Yeah, you too!" She answered.
Sarah pulled Justin over and wrapped her arm around his side. "Jessica, this is my boyfriend Justin!" She had a huge smile on her face, and her red lipstick made her teeth look extra white.
I glanced over at him, and i wasn't sure wether i should go along with the introduction or tell Sarah that we already know each other. But, boyfriend?
Are Justin and I done? Surely god they had to do more than just hangout for her to introduce him as her boyfriend.
"Supper is ready!" Jason's mom called out from the other room, completely saving me from my fake introduction to Justin.
At the table, i sat next to Jason. Awkwardly enough, Justin sat directly across from me. I kept quiet while i ate, and i only spoke when i had to. I think Jason was feeling awkward enough, i just felt downright horrible.
"So, Jessica what do you do for a living?"
I smiled, "Uh, i'm actually unemployed at the moment, but i'm looking around." I answered.
Justin stared at me for a good 30 seconds, i knew i had to talk to him sometime before i left here tonight, i just couldn't figure out what i wanted to say.
Jennifer brought over a big chocolate cake, and cut each of us a piece. I leaned over to Jason while nobody was watching us. "After supper, i need to talk to Justin, is that okay with you?"
He nodded, and placed his hand on my knee. "Of course."
I finished my piece of chocolate cake, and when Sarah got up and went over to the sink i took this opportunity as my chance to go talk to Justin.
I eyeballed him, and mouthed the words "We need to talk."
Jason gave me a reassuring pat on the shoulder, and i couldn't be more thankful that he was so understanding about this. And more importantly, that i was honest with him from the beginning. If i never told him about Justin and I, i think i would be in a big tangle right now.
He followed me up the stairs, and we went in to what looked like an upstairs family room.
"What the hell is going on?" I blurted out. It was the only thing i could manage to get out.
"You're the one who left me without even telling me where you went, or how long you'd be. I think i should be asking you that question." He sounded angry.
"I don't know exactly why i left, but i needed some space. I just wanted to clear my head and get things straightened out."
"Does getting things straightened out evolve seeing someone else?"
"I'm not seeing anyone Justin. Jason and I are friends, nothing more. I told him everything the first time i was with him, about you and me, about what i was doing with my life, who i was. I was honest with him, and he respected the fact that i was already taken."
He stayed quiet for a second.
"Who's Sarah?" I asked. "You two don't exactly portray to be 'just friends'?"
"Jess, please." He said quietly.
"I just told you about me and Jason, your turn to tell me about you and Sarah."
He kept his eyes glued to the floor, and i knew he had done something with her i could feel it.
"I don't know, we hooked up and now she thinks we're together. I never told her about me and you."
"That's your explanation?" I asked.
He nodded.
"Jessica, i am so sorry." He grabbed my hand. He twisted the promise ring around, so it faced the right way on my finger.
I looked down at his hands wrapped in mine, and the promise ring he gave me the day before his tour.
"We're supposed to be promised to each other." I sobbed, a tear fell from my eye and onto his hand.
"We still are." He said.
"But people who are promised to each other aren't supposed to be like this."
"Everyone makes mistakes Jess, this is just one of the bigger ones. I love you more than anything and anyone on this planet, and if i could think of an apology to give you, that would be good enough to prove to you how sorry i am for doing this to you, i would. You were honest, and stayed true to me and i was nothing but an idiot. I didn't hold up my end of the plate. I love you so much, and i just want your forgiveness."
My eyes were flooding with tears. "I would never be able to turn down a guy that gives apologies like that."
He pressed his forehead to mine, and smiled. He was crying too.
"I love you Jessica."
"I love you too."
