So I just read Duecailone's "The Ranting Book" about five minutes ago, and I got really excited because I saw it as an oppurtunity to give my own little rant about something that is has been really bothering me about Wattpad stories. So, here I am, making a response.
So like I said in bio, this isn't my first Wattpad account. I've been on Wattpad for a good two-ish years now, and I continue to see this over and over again. You see, I read a lot of werewolf stories. I'm always up for a good romance book. And luckily for me, Wattpad happens to have a ton of these. But I see way too many werewolf stories that have plotlines that go a little something like this:
A girl is adored by her pack and parents, until her parents are tragically killed by rogues. The girl, who is usually no older than ten (and couldn't have possibly done anything, much less fight off like three adult men) is blamed for her parent's death-- especially by her older brother (it's always an older brother). Instead of grieving with her, the entire pack goes against her, starts bullying her, and basically makes her their servant. The only person she has is an aloof best friend who somehow sees the good in her, and the best friend gets no shit whatsoever from the pack even though she is strongly associated with girl/their servant. Basically, the girl takes all this crap from her pack, especially her brother and the hot teenage Alpha (surprise, surprise), until the Alpha turns sixteen (or some other age around there) and finds out that said girl is his mate. He rejects her, she decides enough is enough and runs away, he immediatly regrets his decision, girl bumps into a new pack, they take her in and make her "hot", she comes back a few years later for some reason and Mr. Alpha tries to win her back while simultaneously screwing his fuck buddy (aka "the pack slut").
Side note: these stories usually contain horrid grammar, and the girl who is called "ugly" and "fat" by her packmates is actually some gorgeous supermodel.
So, let's just take a second to let this sink in. I've seen SO MANY of these stories on Wattpad, it's annoying as fuck. The shocking thing is, all of them are EXACTLY. THE. SAME. It's sad because I'm not even exaggerating. Like, same exact plotline. No changes. It bothers me. And usually the author doesn't even give a reason to why the entire pack blamed the protagonist for her parent's death, even if she was like five and wasn't even there when they were attacked. If you can write a story with a plotline like this and make it unique, clever, and funny and/or heartbreaking, props to you. But please: don't be one of these people.
Anyway, this was in response to the Ranting Book because the author covered a lot of what annoys me about this stories, and it was a pretty great read. Thanks so much for listening, and I really didn't mean to offend anyone. But... if you are acting stupid, just stop.
