She was beautiful. Her skin was a dark color, like chocolate. Her curly hair was black and soft. Her brown eyes glimmer when she gazed at me. We were in love.
But we had to be secret. Why? Many things. Her parents, my parents. Her friends, my friends. Her sister, my brother.
They said they wanted the best for us. But this was the best:
If they let us be.
I don't want her parents' blessing or anything. I want to be accepted by them. I want to be able to be together with her. But I can't.
This world is disgusting. Just because she's black and I'm white. So what? No one should care. It's about the feelings after all.
"Let's run away.", I whisper. She sighs and nods, hugging me tighter on the park bench. She gets up. "I wish I could Ethan. I wish I could, but-", she sobs and runs away.
I didn't chase after her. I couldn't. They would see. So I fight back my tears as I look down at my hands.
