"clothes off" The guard said

I stared at him then began to take off my shirt. Even after I took off all my clothes leaving my briefs he stood there waiting. I sighed then took them off too.

"tilt your head forward" He said while putting on a pair of gloves

He stepped forward then began to search through my hair. I barely had any so I didn't see the importance of it.

"open your mouth" He continued

When I did he held a flashlight to my mouth and began to look through it. Sucks to be him because I haven't brushed my teeth this morning.

"okay bend down" He said

"is that really necessa—"

"bend down!" He said without letting me finish

—•—

"these are your's and your's alone to take care of, if you damage anything in the cell you will be fined. do you understand?" He asked while handing me a spare jumpsuit and some bed sheets

I nodded my head and took the things from him

"hold out your wrist"

He put one of those hospital bracelets on me then led me out the room. Using his keycard to open several doors we soon entered the cell block. As we walked down to my cell and the inmates were whistling and saying some weird shit.

"aye look at the fish" One said

"new fish, time to go fishing"

"I wonder how long he'll last"

"get in" The guard said unlocking one of the cells

I felt much better knowing that this was a single cell which meant I didn't have to share with anyone. The situation still sucks but now I don't have to worry about someone trying to make me their bitch.

"you missed breakfast, you're gonna have to wait till lunch to get food. tomorrow you'll be assigned a job. you don't earn much but it's something" He said while locking the cell

I dropped my sheets on the bed then laid down on it. As I stared at the wall all of the emotions built up in me started to surface.

why is this happening to me?

Emerson

"what do you mean you've moved him?"

"it's standard protocol, only until his bail hearing" The receptionist said

"bail hearing? he's not guilty!" I found myself slamming my hand on the desk

"that'll be for the judge to decide. I'm guessing the evidence against him was substantial for the state to hold him until the bail hearing. there's not much else I can tell you"

"what jail is he in?" I asked

"rikers island correctional facility" She answered then turned to look back at her computer

I pulled out my phone to call Damien as I walked out the precinct. After a couple of rings he answered.

"is he here?" I asked

"yeah, when do you need him?"

"now"

Tahj

"Anderson!" One of the guards barked through my cell disturbing my concentration on the wall

I slowly rose up and looked at him waiting for him to say something.

"your defense is here" He said before tapping the little opening in the cell

my defense?

I stood up and walked over to the cell door and stuck my hands through the hole. He cuffed my hands, a little less tight than officer dickhead, but still tight.

We walked down the hall and just like before the whistling and stupid remarks continued. I didn't let it bother me though as I followed behind the guard.

He opened a couple of doors with his keycard and soon we ended up in a room that sorta resembled a interrogation room. He made me sit down then handcuffed me to the table before leaving. I was confused for a couple of seconds before he soon returned with a man I have never met in my life, he was sexy as shit though.

"take the handcuffs off" The guy said as he set his briefcase down on the table I was handcuffed to

"that's standard—"

"off!" He said sternly

The guard sighed then came over to unlocked the handcuffs. My hands started rubbing my wrists almost immediately.

The guy stood there and waited for the guard to leave before taking a seat across from me.

"who're you?" I asked

"your lawyer...name's Christopher" He smirked

"how'd you—"

"I'm a friend of your boyfriend, well Damien but Emerson's cool people too"

I nodded then stared at him.

"I looked at your case, this is gonna be hard as fuck...lucky for you though I like complicated"

"I didn't do it" I said

"yeah that's what your boyfriend says too. look I don't give a fuck if you did or didn't, one thing I don't ask my clients is if they did it or not. I just need you to be completely honest with me—besides when it comes to that—so I'm not blindsided in court by new information, got it?"

I nodded my head.

"good. now let's start with the evidence. your fingerprints are on the knife, how can you explain that?"

"I live there and it's one of my knives, my fingerprints will obviously be there"

"okay let's forget about what makes you look guilty, what proof do you have that you're innocent?" He asked

I began to think then I remembered what Detective Bierce mentioned earlier.

"they said the camera footage on my floor shows me going into the apartment and later on Taye followed me in there, but when I walked in he was already dead on the floor"

"yeah I did see that...what else?"

"uhh my debit card. I used it to pay for the taxi home. it'll show around what time I got there, you can see if it matches the timestamp on the camera footage that shows him walking in after me"

"good that works. now what evidence can be used against you that has nothing to do with the murder?"

"he raped me. he drugged and raped me. when I found out about it he ended up going to the cops and tried to get a restraining order against me. he told them I'm the one that raped him. of course they had no reliable evidence or else I would've been charged by now" I explained

"yeah that's gonna be an issue. you have any proof he raped you?" He asked

"he recorded it and sent it to me. that alone proves that he raped me, the fact that he sent it to me right?"

"depends. what's on the video?"

"the one he sent was him giving me head. but apparently there's another one, one which showed the whole thing. I haven't seen it but I bet that can prove he raped me. I mean he had a whole person film us"

"okay I'm gonna check up on the camera footage situation, in the meantime just hang in there. I'm gonna get you out as soon as possible" He said while standing up

I nodded my head but didn't let that get my hopes up. I know there's only so much he can do, the evidence literally points to me. If I was the judge or was on the jury I'd think I'm guilty too.

"oh and by the way someone's here to see you" He winked before going to knock the on door

The guard opened it letting him walk out then came over to me.

"guess you've got people who care about you. you have a visitor" He said while handcuffing me

I stayed quiet as he got me up and led me out of the room. we walked through the building to the other wing and came to a room with a wall of booth's I guess. there were only two other prisoners here, out of the 10 booths or so that were available.

"you've got 15 minutes" The guard said while unlocking the cuffs

I took the time as an opportunity to get his name. Rivera his name tag read.

After taking off the cuffs he walked me over to the booth all the way at the end. Emerson sat on the other side of it and just seeing his face brought a smile to mine. I hadn't smiled since yesterday so the expression felt weird to me.

I sat down and picked up the phone to my ear but neither of us said anything. Just his presence was comforting enough.

"damn...when you get out of here imma need you to keep that, orange look good on you. I wanna try some prison role play" He said with a smirk

"that's not funny" I said then started to laugh

After a couple of seconds we went back to silence.

"I'm sorry..." He began

"don't—"

"nah if I let you come with me to the studio then this wouldn't have happened. we would've went to my place"

"what was at the studio anyways?"

"nothing. just the security system buggin out. now I'm guessing it was a distraction to make sure I wasn't with you"

"so he's really dead?" I asked even though I know the answer

"yeah, now the question is who killed him and why frame you?"

"Emmy please don't do anything stupid"

"baby I'm gonna get you outta here, that's all that matters" He said seriously "they must've messed up somewhere, we just gotta find that flaw"

"I wish I could touch you" I said placing my hand against the glass

He looked into my eyes and smiled. his eyes looked tired, like he hadn't slept at all. I knew he was gonna do this, he's gonna blame it all on himself and not rest until he fixes it.

"soon baby soon" He said while placing his hand on mine behind the glass

"I can't take it in here. the cell is boring, all I've been doing is staring at the wall. the inmates keep calling me fish...whatever that's supposed to mean"

"yeah that's what they call newcomers, fish. jail is considered a fishbowl, and you're just a little fish. boss just please try not to drop the soap" He said with a little smirk

"that's not fucking funny" I stared at him "the cells are single anyways so I don't have to worry about being somebody's bitch"

"that's good. make a friend or two in there, someone to protect you while you in there. and also ask 'em for looser jumpsuits, your ass look too good in this size. Lord knows these inmates are feening for something to stick they dick in and I damn well know it won't be mine"

"yeah whatever" I chuckled

"time's up" Rivera yelled

He walked up to the other two inmates and made them hang up before walking towards me.

no way that was 15 minutes.

"see you" I said before he could make me hang up

"stay string bo—"

Rivera snatched the phone off my ear and hung it up.

"what's going on, I thought I had 15 minutes?" I asked while standing up with my hands out and together

it's a habit now.

"it's lunch time" He said then began to pull me away

I turned back to see Emerson still sitting there watching me. I just wanna go home.

—•—

Emerson

"this video is pretty convincing" Chris said while scrubbing back to the beginning

"yeah but it's not, Dylan was already dead before Tahj walked in"

"Dylan?"

"yeah that's what he went by last year, now he's Taye...well was"

There was a knock on my office door before it opened and Max walked in.

"how's Tahj doing?" He asked

"he's holding up. can you do me a favor actually?"

"anything"

"take one of my cameras and stop by Tahj's apartment. take a picture everything in his apartment, I don't care if it's just a crack in the wall, everything" I said while handing him a key to his apartment

"alright" He said

"that's still a crime scene, they're not gonna let him in" Christopher said

"tell them you're his boyfriend and you live there, just figure it out" I said to him as he was walking out

"back to the video..."

"if I can somehow get the original I can prove that it's fake" I whispered

"that won't be enough, look at all the evidence they have against him. rape, DNA, probable cause, stalking, phone logs"

"so what do you suggest we do?" I asked feeling defeated

"instead of trying to prove him innocent, find the person who actually did this. control the narrative. think about it, you know more about this situation than I do. who wins from this, who's gonna gain the most by killing Taye or Dylan whatever his name is"

My mind jumped straight to Casey but he's been too quiet this whole time. if anything he would've been flaunting his success this whole time. where is he? If it's not Casey then that leaves just one other person...

"himself"
