Yo. So... I'm trying my best to get the persdonalities of teh characters right.  I mean, I know them, but Its hard to put them down on paper... I love InuYasha, it is the best anime ever! But don't worry, it gets funnier as it goes on.  Oh, and if any of you are familier with my other stories, you will have noticed I did a different kind of main character this time! Its always fun to do something new!*-~

Chapter Two

“The Jewel of four souls, also known as the Shikon Jewel, is  a magical devise that will give great power to anyone who possesses it, and if it falls into the wrong hands, then all will be lossed. Knowing this, my sister, Kikyo, had the jewel burned with her remains when she died banishing the jewel from this world forever. Or so we thought.”

“Many years later, lady Kagome, who is the reincarnate of my sister, fell through that well from your time, bringing with her the Shikon Jewel which was stored in her body. But due to… a turn of events, the Shikon Jewel was broken into many shards, which have been scattered all through Japan. Even if these are only parts of the great power, these fragments still give all who hold them great power.

“Because of this, InuYasha, Kagome, Sango, Miroku, and Shippo here have made it there goal to find all these shards, and keep them from falling into the hands of the evil Demon Naraku, someone who wants to use itys power for his own evil means. But this is their story and probably I am not the best person to tell. From what I have heard from Kagome, you have traveled back in time 200 years into a time of war.” Kiede finally finished her voice grim.

I blinked, processing this. “Oookay. But that doesn’t tell me exactly why I’m here. I mean, it explains the whole weird dress thing, but why are there demons now, and not in the future? And how is it I was able to come through the well, even though you guys say only Dog boy here, and Kagome can do it?”

InuYasha glared at me and started in a loud angry voice. “Dog boy! You little—“

“SIT BOY!”  Yelled Kagome out of no where, causing me to raise an eyebrow. But I was soon astonished to find that the boy let out a gasp and was instantly thrown to the ground by an invisible force, hitting the ground so hard it vibrated.

Kagome sighed. “Sheesh, InuYasha, show some hospitality. I’m sure this is a bi9g shock for her, and this is not the time to go yelling about your pride.” InuYasha growled and stared up at Kagome from his spot on the ground, gold eyes shining. “Pride. PRIDE! She just called me dog boy—“

But Kagome just sighed againb, and took my hand, leading me outside. “Ignore him. He’s usually like this.” InuYasha let out another growl. “Why you…”

But even I had to admit the scene was kinda funny. The cool breeze swept through me, ruffling my hair from under my hood. I cursed and quickly wrenched it down over my face, as I rearranged my haiur so it wouldn’t show.

I didn’t want to go through that again. Not ever.

Kagome smiled back at me and laughed. “You have no idea how nice it is to finally find someone who understands me. I mean, Sango and Mirouku and InuYasha… there all nice and all, but none oif them understand what its like going from the present to the feudal era. Its strange though…. If you don’t mind me asking… do you happen to have a jewel shard?” I blinked at her question and shook my head. “I don’t think so. I don’t exactly carry around jewels or anything…”

Suddenly, my eye unconsciously flickered to some movement from behind Kagome. What looked like a sort of slithering scaly piece of flesh was making its way towards us with amazing speed. And what could only be a poison dripped from it like blood.

It made a leap, heading directly for Kagomes head.

“Kagome!” I shrieked in protest, barreling towards her, and throwing us to the side, before the thing could make contact. We fell hard to the ground and Kagome let out a gasp. “I-Its stiull moving!” I shrieked, instantly feeling up the inside of my sleeve for any more pins. Just one. Dammit.

I quickly glanced around, in just a second assessing the situation. The thing had seen it had missed us, and was barreling towards us again, at full speed. It would be useless to just throw the pin at it. But… I glanced up and saw that on top of the shrine there was a bucket filled with straw, probably to patch up the roof.

It was in the perfect spot. I knew it wouldn’t do much, but it would buy us time. Kagome shrieked out. “INUYASHA!” Their was a few gasps from inside the shrine and I heard him Barreling towards the door. Good. “Kagome! Whats—“ He yelled out, glancing around franticly, just as I threw the pin at the lower left side of the bucket.

The yell from InuYasha had stunned the thing for a minute, making it confused at which was its pray, but it had been stunned long enough. The bucket fell on top of the thing, trapping it fo9r a few minutes, as it wrestled the thing off. But that had bought us enough time for InuYasha to spot the thing.

He grit his teeth and ran over to the thing, slashing it with his long nails. “IRON REAVER SOUL STEALER!” He yelled, and the thing was sliced into a million pieces. He snorted. “Ha. Well that was easy. Kagome, you could have just shot an  arrow at it, instead of screaming like a girl.”

Kagome looked a bit annoyed. She crossed her hands across her chest. “I sound like a girl because I am a girl. Besides, I left my bow and arrows in the cabin.” She glanced at me, a smile forming on her lips. “If it wasn’t for… for… hey, I don’t even know your name!” I laughed and tugged a bit on my hoodie. “Its Amaya.”

Kagome nodded and smnield again. “Amaya… hey, can I call you May for short? Its such a  pretty name… anyway, if it hadn’t been for Amaya, I would probably be dead by now. I hadn’t seen it coming at me, and with that poison… I would have been a goner.” All eyes turned to me.

Lady Kiede gave me a level look with her one eye. “My, ye seem to be full of surprises young one.” The Monk, Miroku I remember him being called, came over to me. “I didn’t see much till the last moment, but that was some great throwing skills. And to be able to think so fast in that kind of situation… Quite impressive. Its strange though, that a girl from the present could be trained in such precision.”

InuYasha laughed. “Ha. If she is  a human girl. Its hard tio tell with that weird cloak of hers. Its so big, you can’t even see her hair.” Kagome frowned at him. “InuYasha! That’s not nice! Apologize!” InuYasha snorted. “As if! It’s true, anyway! And its hard to tell if she is even human. She smells so strange… not exactly like a demon or half demon…. But not exactly like a human either.” He narrowed his eyes at me. “I sense something Fishy about you, and I don’t like it.”

“ InuYasha, Sit boy!” Kagome suddenly let out her face filled with frustration. The guy suddenly tackled himself to the ground, and she let out a harrumph. “Hmph! You shouldn’t be so rude! I told you, she saved my life! So stop acting so rude to her!”

I let out a dry laugh and shook my head. “No its okay. I’m used to it. He doesn’t know me so he has reason enough to be suspicious. I can hardly blame him.” Suddenly Miroku cam foreward. “ Though I don’t agree with his methods, but I have to say, he’s right to some point. It is hard to tell if you’re a girl. Would you mind taking off that hood for us? That way, I’m sure I will be able to see your beautiful face much better.”

That earned him a slap in the face from Sango. “You Lech! I swear whenever a younge girl is mentioned—“

I suddenly  let out  gasp, as the cut at my side seemed to throb with pain. I cursed and looked over at it. It seems that maybe some of the poison that had been flying from the demon had found its way into my cut. Now, it fizzled with a slight white foam.

Sango and Kagome looked over at me in surprise and spotted the wound. “May! Your hurt!” Let out a surprised Kagome. I waved her off. “No, its fine… I’ll… I can take care of it.” Sango shook her head. “I’m sorry Amaya, but this is poison from a demon. We need to take care of it quickly before it reaches yiour bloodstream.” Kagome cam over to me and tried to shrug off the jacket.

“Let me get a better look at it now…” I wrenched away from her, making sure that my hood hadn’t fallen yet. “N-No, its fine. Just give me a cloth and I’ll wash it off myself. There’s no need for you to be involved.”

InuYasha rolled his eyes. “Don’t be an idiot. Just let us take care of it for you.” I shook my head back and forth as they all crept closer. “No, I said I got it—“ But I was cut off as the little orange haired demon boy lurched forward, and pulled the hood away from my face. Shippo, I remember him being called.

I let out a gasp and fell back, as his sudden weight tipped me over. My hood was fully off now as I landed on the ground, exposing my face and everything else. I let out a deep breath and put up my hands to shield my face, hopefully blocking their view, but it was too late.

They had seen me.

It would happen all over again, I just knew it.

Everyone just stared at me with surprised and stunned looks. InuYasha raised his eyebrows then shrugged. “Huh. So she is a girl.” Shippo, to my right, blinked. “Your hair… is that    red?” Sango shook her head. “No more like a pinkish…. Yellow?”

“And her eyes… I have never seen quite shade of purple like that before.” He noted.

They were all staring now at me now, and my strange features. Even back in America, people had always commented on my strange looks and impossible hair. I felt myself start to quiver with embarrassment. I pulled back up the hood. “Yeah… I know, I’m strange.” I said the words bitterly. But much to my surprise, Kagome laughed. “Guys, she has strawberry blonde hair. Its not seen often in Japan, but there are people out there with it.” She sweat beaded. “Though, I have never seen such a… vibrant shade of it before. -_-^”

I sighed, clinging hard to the fabric in hoped of disguising myself with it. But I knew they would never forget my appearance. Much to my surprise, Miroku came over to me, and got down on his knees, taking my hands in his, with the other, he swept the hood back, watching as my curls spilled out.

“Don’t mind them, they are only jealous of your beautiful hair, which is the color of the sunset, and your eyes the color of the sweetest wildflower.” He told me, looking straight into my eyes. I blinked, surprised by his kind words.

“You are quite beautiful I must say, not to mention, you helped save the life of my  friend. I hate to ask you of this, but I have one more favor to ask of you.” There was a groan from InuYasham and Shippo hit himself in the head. “Hear he goes again.” H emurmurred, while Sango stared at Miroku with a  dark aura.

Miroku came forward so his face was only a few inches away from mine, “Would you do me the honor…” He started then too his other hand and held it with his otherm, forming a cage around my grasp. I couldn’t help but notice myh heart skip a beat.

“Would you do me the honor of bearing my child?” He said finally, his eyes glittering. The mood was instantly shattered. “Pedophile!” I yelled, yanking my hands from his, and slapping him, HARD across the face.

I sat right up and stared down at him with a gloomy aura almost matching Sango’s. “You sick Pig! There is no way in hell that I would do something so.. so.. argh!” I yelled at him, kicking the monk, and retreating to the corner besides Kagome, my face bright red.

InuYasha let out a amused laugh. “Ha! In your face you lecherous monk! I take it back, I like this girl!” he laughed, pointing his finger in Mirokus direction, dubbled over in laughter. Miroku frowned, rubbing the spot where I slapped him. “Hmm. I was only trying to help. I thought my words might sooth her and make her feel more comfortable. She looked like she was in a lot of pain.”

Sango came forward, a big vein showing on here forehead. “Yeah, and the pain you just put her through isn’t helping. Your such a Lech.” Miroku sweat beaded as he saw Sango’s still gloomy aura. “Uh, Sango, you know this didn’t mean anything—“

“Save it.” She said, putting up a hand and turning to me. “We have to work on that injury right now. I fear we don’t have that much time left.”

Lady Kiede nodded and walked over to me. “This way, Child. And please be sure to take off that dirtied cloak. Kagome, would you mind picking some herbs for her?” Kagome nodded and started walking away towards the field in the distance. I followed her into the small cabin like room, and took off my hoodie. Revealing a dirt splattered whit tank top and a pair of ripped jeans. There was only so much someone could where on the streets, let alone afford.

I had a few changes of clothes in my pack, along with some other of my things I collected. Along with change and a few granola bars of course. Speaking of which, I was starting to get hungry…

I sat down on the mat as she took a look at my arm. She frowned. “Hmm… I’m surprised. Your lucky child. Itr seems like you have quite an immune system, its fighting off the poison. But Its best that thy clean it up, just to be safe.” It seemed like she wanted to say more, but her grip was firm.

Apparently InuYasha had gone with Kagome, because a few minutes later, she came in with him, carrying a whole bunch of weedlike plants. She set them down next to the water bowl in the rag, and Kiede nodded. SH began to take long strands of the stuff and stir it with the water. After  awhile, the water turned a slight green. She dipped the rag in it and slowly brought i8t up to the scratch.

I let out a gasp of pain, but quikly grit my teeth, trying to stay silent. I wasn’t going to act like a baby in front of people who had gotten much worse injuries then me, I was sure. Kagome tried to break the silence. “You said you live in Tokyo right? Which school do you go to? I  haven’t seen you around before.”

Great. She just had to ask that question.

I sighed, and winced. ‘Well… I…. I don’t exactly go to school.” Kagome blinked and cocked her head to the side. “Oh, you mean homeschooled?” I sighed and shook my head. “No… I kinda…. Already graduated.” That made her blink. “What? That’s impossible! You can’t be any older then me! How can you not go to school?”

I sighed. “Well… its kinda a long story.” InuYasha sat up against one of the walls, and folded his hands into the sleeves of his Kimono. “Well we got time. Besides, it seems like we’re going to be around each other a lot, so no use it trying to keep secrets.” I blinked at him, a bit confused. “What?”

InuYasha sighed. “Really, ya don’t get it, do ya? Well, obviously you’re here for a reason. You didn’t just fall down that well for nothing. Besides, who would want to go back to that boring world of yours after coming to a place like this?” Kagome elbowed him in the ribs. “InuYasha! She doesn’t have to stay with us if she doesn’t want to! She has a choice! Though…” She turned to me and gave me a look. “It would be nice to have another girl around.”

Sango raised an eye. “What am I? chopped liver?” Kagome couldn’t help but laugh. “Ah, Sango I was just joking! Wow, you’re in such a weird mood today.” Sango’s eyes snaked towards Miroku and she glared. “I wonder why?”

I couldn’t help but laugh at the look on Miroku and Sango’s faces.  I guess she wasn’t quite happy with his trick earlier… did that mean she liked him? Probably. From the look on her face, that could be the only explanation. I stared at the whole group for a moment, just as the little cat demon jumped onto my lap and started purring. I glanced down at her in surprise, then, hesitantly started to pet her.

“I graduated High school years ago. I guess you could say I skipped a bunch of grades when I was younger. My parents had always pushed me towards learning, escpecailly because of my…. Memory. You see, anything I read, I instantly remember. So… after that I kinda just kept going till I graduated. In fact, my super memory was probably the only thing my parents liked about me… you see, they were rich, so they didn’t have much time for me.”

I started to scratch the cat under her chin and she started to make the purring/squeaking noise even louder. I smiled without any emotion. “They tried to get me to go to college… probably so they could have some bragging rights. But when I refused… well, they didn’t see any use of keeping me around. So, I just went up and sailed around the world until I came to Tokyo.”

Kagome blinked. “You mean… you’re a foreigner? Where from? Your parents… no one should do that to a child.” I snorted and rolled my eyes. Its not like I had any particular liking for my parenst. I had refused to go to college so I could return to my own grade and possibly make friends. So what if I had already graduated? I hate dthe fact that I was always alienated, made fun of. As if my hair and eyes weren’t enough.

People just usually disliked me right off. And I didn’t blame them for it.

“I was from America, for you guys who don’t know, that’s a place pretty far off from here. Across a whole ocean. I… I learned Japanese from my Nanny back in the day. She was originally from Japan….” I trailed off as my own memory took me.

Sango’s Eery aura was gone, and was instead, replaced by a look of sympathy. “So far away from home… I can’t believe someone would do something like that to their own children.”

InuYasha harrumphed./ “Well, believe it. Now enough of the Sap stories. There starting to get annoyoing.” Kagome rolled her eyes. “But you were the one who insisted she told us, InuYasha. In fact, you actually sounded… concerned.”

InuYasha snorted. “Ha. Me? No way. I don’t know what your talking about. I just wanted to know if there was another freeloader coming along on our journey to find the jewel shards. Great, another iutt I’m going to have to rescue.”

I rolled my eyes, and then winced again, as Lady Kiede wrapped a bandage around my upper arm. “That should do it. Just don’t pester it and it should heal well enough. Kagome, would ye please calm down InuYasha fidgeting? It is quite troublesome.”

Sure enough, InuYasha was tapping his foot hard against the floor, making the thin walls shake. InuYasha glared up at the old woman. “I am not fidgeting.”  I couldn’t help but smile. Kagome laughed at his face, only managing to make him look more cross.

Kagome sighed and picked up a yellow backpack, and slung it over her shoulder. “Well, come on May, lets go. I have a test tomorrow, and if I don’t get a well enough rest, I’ll fail for sure.” Her mood became gloomy. I blinked. “Wait. You mean… back to the present?”

InuYasha rolled his eyes. “Duh. Where else will the both of you go? God, is she dense.” I sent him a glare, but he seemed unfazed. Kagome nodded. “You could stay with me if you like. We’ll only be there for a day or two so… Its nothing much. That is, if you plan to come back and help us.” She gave me a pleading look, and after a moment, I shrugged. “Sure. What the heck, why not? I mean, killing demons and going up against a evil weirdo sounds like fun to me. Lets do it.”

This gained a smile from Kagome and Sango seamed pleased. “That’s great! It will be nice to have you around! And Kilala seems to like you.” Kilala gave another loud pure, as if to respond to her words. I laughed and gave her another affectionate pat on the head. “Well, if the cat says I’m supposed to say, then there’s not much I can do about it can I?” I said aloud, and there was a chorus of laughter, all except for InuYasha. (no surprise there)

I smirked over at him. “What InuYasha? Afraid I’m going to steal your girlfriend away from you?” I got more responses on this comment then I would have thought.

InuYasha stiffened and said in a flustered, yet hard voice. “Girlfriend! No way!” While Kagome said in an equally stunned, but more embarrassed voice. “I-It’s not like that!” I blinked, a bit confused at their reactions. From the way the two had acted around eachother, I had thought for sure they were together.

Hmm. Looks like There was going to have to be more meddling on my part.

Hehe.

InuYasha suddenly stood up, his face fixed in a hard scowl, but his cheeks were bit pink as he scoffed. “Well, are we leaving or what?” I blinked up at him. “Your coming?” He laughed bitterly. “Of course. If I’m not there, I’m pretty sure that Kagome will probably fall down a pot hole, or something like that on her way back home from the well. She’s a walkinbg talking trouble magnet.”

A big vein popped out on Kagomes forehead. “My house is only a few feet away from the well. And if you haven’t noticed, I do just fine in my world without you. If you stopped just barging into my school like an idiot, I wouldn’t have to try to cover everything up! If you could be just a little more cautious around other people with your ears, we wouldn’t have to go through so much trouble to cover them.”

I sighed and stepped in between the two, feeling a fight coming on. One of many, I instantly guessed. “Well, let’s go shall we? Wouldn’t your family be worried you weren’t back before nightfall?” Kagome didn’t say a word, but harrumphed as she walked out the door.

InuYasha grumbled curses under his breath as he marched loudly out the door following her. I sighed. Miroku smiled and raised a hand. “Well, good luck with trying to keep those two from fighting. I’m sure glad I don’t have to worry about having to babysit the two.” Sango sighed and nodded. “I don’t envy you there Amaya.”

I sighed and glanced at Lady Kiede. “One more thing before I go…. I was wondering… You said only those with Jewel shards can escape through the well, right? How is it that I can, if I don’t have any?” The old Shrine keeper stared at me for a long moment, her face hard and calculating. After a long time, she answered.

“The Shikon was originally the soul of a very powerful priestess. Its possible that your soul is also powerful enough to escape through the boundaries of time and space like hers. You my dear, are a puzzle. It is possible you have some spiritual power of your own. In fact, I am sure of it. Though what worries me child, is the fact that it is a strange kind.” I stared at her for a long moment, not quite being able to process her words. After a long moment, I nodded and followed the two outside.

Back in the room, I could barely hear the words they said as I walked out of earshot. “Lady Kiede, I sensed her spiritual power as well. Thouigh it has me worried… Its not like anything I have experienced before. How is it possible?” There was a long silence as Kiede whispered. “Anything is possible monk. You should have learned such a thing a long time ago.”

~***~

It turns out, heading back to the present was pretty much the same as going into the feudal era. We just fell down into the well again, and resurfaced in the small hut that I had stumbled upon before. And waiting by the entrance was the same lazy fat cat. I blank and stumbled back.

Kagome let out a happy noise and picked the cat up as it purred. “Buyo! I missed you so much!” I blanked and stuttered. “y-you Know that cat?” Kagome nodded. “Of course I do. He’s my pet.”

I stared at the cat with wide eyes and explained how he had led me to the well. InuYasha muttered. “Huh. Well that’s interesting. Whattaya know, Your cats not totally useless after all Kagome.” Kagome frowned at him for a moment, but the gasps of a old man from behind her interrupted anything she would have said. “Kagome! Your back! Already? Why don’t you go back for a day or so, I found the perfect illness to explain why you won’t show up tomorrow!”

Kagome sighed. “Grandpa, I have that big test tomorrow, remember? And would stop using old people illness’s? Its embarrassing!” The grandpa let out a harrumph. “Hmm. You should be grateful. I’m just try to help me— I mean you— out! Speaking of which, who is this young lady? I don’t believe I’ve seen her before.”

I waved a hand in greeting. “I’m Amaya. Nice to meet you.” The old man blanked as I bowed and let out a laugh. “Oh, there is no need my dear. Come on inside. My, from that bandage, it looks like you have recently gotten yourself hurt. Let’s see if there is anything we can get you…” And so, he lead us into the house.
