Katie walked down the stairs of her house she looked at her mom and smiled naturally her mom smiled back.
"Good morning mom." Katie waved.
"Morning hun are you sure you want to do this." Her mom pleaded.
Katie had been diagnosed with cancer after she found a bump on her back that was growing when she was 11. The doctors tested it and declared it to be a cancerous tumour. She had been extra careful ever since and even went out of public school, until grade 10. When she made a decision to go into high school.
"Yes mom I want to make friends I don't want to be stuck in a hospital bed my whole life." She stated.
"Okay remember to take your medication at lunch. If you are feeling sick go to the principals office and will take you home." Her mom rambled.
"Yes mom can I eat now?" She pleaded tired of hearing the same information over and over again.
"Alright."
Katie walked over to the kitchen and grabbed her toast she remembered the diagnosis of the condition.

Katie sat in the Hospital room she watched the water drip into her IV in complete boredom she hated this. She heard the door open and watched the doctor come in.
"Katie I looked at your charts and it appears you have cancer." The doctor spoke.
Her mom sobbed in the news of her daughters fate.
"It's not just the tumour that had it though. It spread to your breasts but the good news is we can get surgery to help." The doctor smiled.
~end of flashback~
Luckily she was able to get rid of the lung cancer but the cancer returned and now it's tumour in her chest her but she is on chemo right now to shrink it before they can take it out.
"Katie time for school sweetheart." Her mom called out from the living room.
"Yes mom she yelled back as she grabbed her lunch box, stuffed it in her backpack and quickly left the house. She met up with her mom in the car and drove to school.
Katie didn't really like being the new kid though she was a bit late since it was January and that was because she had to be in the hospital for some serious infection of her bladder. She touched her head and frowned in the car she hated not having hair and wearing a wig but she hated being bald more her head just looked so big.
"Sweetie your wig looks natural on you no one will know." Her mom smiled.
Katie then saw the flowers on the side of the road her heart sank to her feet.
"Mom why are we here!" Pidge panicked. "You know I hate this road."

13 year old Katie was in the back of her families car she was having Pokémon battle with Matt her older brother and she was currently loosing she cursed as she saw she only had one more Pokémon left went her mom and dad screamed Matt who was on the right side of the car much like his father got hit straight on by a car driven by drunk driver.
Katie woke up in the hospital she frowned she hates hospitals. Then she remembered the crash she shot straight up and looked around she seemed to only have cuts, bruises and a broken arm she looked over to her mom who was crying.
"Mom?" she asked.
"Their dead Katie, Matt and your Father are dead." She sobbed.
"What." She whispered tears rolling down her cheeks.

The flowers need to be replaced honey." Her mom smiled as she stopped her car and got the flowers out of the back and replaced them. They were Dragon Lillies the family's favourite.
"Okay But usually you do this without me." Katie nodded.
Colleen got back into the car and headed to the school Katie sighed.
They arrived and Katie heard the bell ring she cursed as she ran out of the car and headed to the school it was big and looked like every other school. Katie walked inside and looked at her time table the realized she had to do gym first period, she cursed again she hated gym with a passion.
She headed to the gym it took a couple minutes to find it because of where it was located, but she got there safely she walked in and walked into the change room suddenly Katie grew nervous after seeing there were no changing stalls just a big open space with lockers and benches.
Katie sighed and took off her clothes she hurriedly grabbed her gym clothes and changed into those hoping no one saw her scars she was very self conscious of them.
She left the room and walked into the gym then the teacher spoke he called Katie over and she walked quietly and steadily.
"Kids this is our new student Katie, welcome her with open arms." He smiled as Katie nodded shyly all of the sudden a boy shouted.
"Welcome to the school Katie."
"Uhh Thank you." She murmured.
"Awe your adorable." He spoke again.
Katie looked up at the man and immediately blushed they guy who was speaking was breathtaking in her eyes he had short brown hair bright blue eyes and a sun kissed tan he was wearing a blue shirt with a V on the front that looked like it was printed on by a newbie. Katie simply giggled.
"Lance stop it. Okay kids time for your warm ups." The teacher yelled.
~after class~
"Hey Katie." Lance called out to her as she walked out of the changing room.
"Hello." She whispered she was always antisocial she preferred people from a distance.
"You should join my friend group I have." He smiled. "It's called Voltron."
"Okay but why me." She spoke a bit louder.
"Well duh because you are wearing green." He cocked an eyebrow.
"What does that have to do with the price of eggs." She almost yelled confused by what this boy was trying to say to her.
"Well you see voltron has the iconic colours pink, black, blue, yellow, red, and green but we haven't been able to find anyone who would fit our green bill." He giggled.
"Alright I guess I'll see you at lunch." She sighed.
"No from what it looks like we share all the same classes." Lance laughed.
"Oh my god."
"Anyways Hunk is the yellow friend and he is also in this class." He pointed to a muscular boy who was also tanned but he had black hair and an orange bandana around his forehead.
"Hey Hunk I found a green friend! This is Katie and Katie this is Hunk." Lance spoke proudly while Katie blushed.
"Hi I hope lance didn't annoy you so much." Hunk giggled.
"No it's fine." She muttered.
"You get to meet the rest at Lunch." Lance chattered.
~at lunch~
"Hey you guys, great news." Lance ran into a group of 3 people who smiled to him as he dragged Katie along who frowned while blushing at his touch.
"This is Katie our new Green friend." Lance smiled proudly.
"Pidge?" A voice spoke Katie looked up she recognized him.
"Sh-sh-Shiro." She stuttered as tears fell from both of their eyes.
"Pidge?" Lance questioned obviously not sensing the mood, but Hunk elbowed him to shut his mouth.
Shiro and Katie soon hugged and cried.
"Why didn't you come back Shiro!" Katie sobbed.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to I just felt like I couldn't return ever since it happened." He cried back.
"Shiro is this his sister?" A male with black hair spoke.
Shiro nodded his head in response while hugging the girl.
"Oh." He smiled.
"Would someone like to explain?" a female with a British accent asked.
Katie pulled away from his hug as she spoke.
"A year ago my family was involved in a car accident my Father and Brother Matt died."
"And Matt was my best friend and his father taught me a lot about astronomy." Shiro finished while smiling at the memories of Matt and Mr. Holt.
"That doesn't explain why he called you Pidge?" Lance wondered.
"It was a name my Brother and Shiro gave me after I befriended a pigeon while at the hospital." She smiled as she took her wig off to show everyone.
"Pidge, it came back." He stared.
"There is a tumour in my chest that they are trying to shrink it. I just thought if you guys are going to hang out with me you might as well know." She smiled a sad smile she hated being sick.
"Oh Katie." Lance frowned as he hugged her. Suddenly she was embraced in a big group hug.
"We are going to love and support you Pidge." Shiro smiled.
"By the way you are now going to be called Pidge." Lance giggled.
"Alright." She laughed.
"Anyways I'm keith and this is Allura." Keith spoke after they released Pidge.
"Nice to meet you." Pidge smiled.
