Chapter One

Twilight Complications:

(Hunter's POV)

"Kaylie, what are you doing?" I ask, as she pulls at my hair.

"I'm making you pretty." She mumbles, and takes a bobby pin from her mouth and sticks it into my hair.

"I can't be pretty." I mutter, and begin to pull away from her.

"STOP. I'M ALMOST DONE." She demands loudly, and grabs my shoulders to bring me back. She sticks a final bobby pin in my hair, and then steps back.

"Look how fucking gorgeous you are!" She squeals excitedly, and spins my chair around to face the mirror.

The hair, looks amazing. Just not on my face. The makeup looks amazing, just not on my face. I bite my negative comments back. "Thank you, McKaylie."

"Say it."

"Say what?"

"I'm gorgeous." She instructs.

I groan, and bite my lip ring. "I'm gorgeous," I say quietly, turning away from the mirror. She frowns, but doesn't say anything. She walks to her bed and grabs a bag from underneath it and brings it to me.

"I got you something." She smiles, and pushes the gift toward me.

"Kaylie what did yo-"

"Just open it, Hunter." She instructs and I sigh. I take the paper out from on top and pull out a Nikon camera and gasp. Kaylie is smiling cheesily.

"This had to cost you a fortune! Are you serious?" I jump up and hug her around tightly. "You're the best, oh my god."

"I know, I know, but it's your birthday and you deserve it and so much more." She smiles and purses her lips. "Plus I thought maybe you could take it around and take pictures whenever you decide you want to travel. You know, like we've talked about." She looks at me hopefully and I nod, still jumping up and down excitedly.
"Of course, of fucking course!"
"Now stop jumping, you're messing up your dress." Kaylie demands, pull down the bottom of the dress to flatten it out. I look across the mirror to my flushed face. Downside of being pale? I glow like I have Rudolph's nose on either cheek. The dress is a beautifully laced low v-neck. The back wasn't really a back, it had thin strings of fabric going across. I guess the designer thought; the more you see the better. It was all black, which is the only reason I'm wearing it. That and Kaylie bought it for me and insisted I go to this party.

I take a small look at the mirror, and realize I'm not wearing any of my piercings in my ears, so I sit back down and take out my jewelry. I put three silver studs on each ear to match my loop lip-piercing. "Come on, the party started 30 minutes ago."

"But I look like shi-" I try to protest but she shakes her head.

"You look perfect." She smiles. "Now come on!" She grabs the skin above my elbow and drags me to the car. I get in the passenger seat and mess with my hair, before deciding to take it down. I pull out the bobby pins and Kaylie let's out a pitched scream.

"I SPENT TWO HOURS ON YOUR HAIR AND YOU'RE TAKING IT DOWN?" She slams on the breaks and I go face-first into dashboard.

"Kaylie, oh my god, I think you broke my face," I say dramatically.

"TWO HOURS JULIET HUNTER YOUNGBLOOD."

"That sounds like a personal problem." I smirk and she glares at me. At this point and time, cars honk behind us.

"Kaylie, get back on the road." I say softly.

"The party is a mile from here."

"Don't you dare say what I think you're going to say."

"Get out and walk," She says and leans over to open the door for me.

"You wouldn't."

"Oh but I would." She purses her lips, just as she always does when she's serious.

"Have fun," She smirks, and I sigh.

"McKaylie Jane Ryets," I say and hop out of the car. "-I hate you." She smiles and blows me a kiss.

"Love youuu," And with that, I'm left on the street in 16 degree weather with a dress and heels. At least the dress had long-sleeves. Still, I groan and start walking. After only five minutes a car slows down behind me and the guy opens his window.

"Hey sexy," He says, and one of his friends does a wolf-whistle.

"Fuck you." I mumble, and keep walking. He then gets out of the car and walks toward me.

"I would love for you to," He says from behind me, aggressively grabbing my waist and turning me toward him.

Shit. I try to break away, but he's too strong. Just as soon as he begins leaning in toward my lips, his weight is lifted off of me.

"I'd kindly like to ask you to leave, and get away from my girlfriend." The new-voice says, but he doesn't sound very... Well, kind. The two stare each other down before one of the attacker's friend says something about missing the party. He turns sharply around toward his truck, and drives away without another word.

After moments of silence, I finally get over my shock.

"Holy fucking shit." Is all I breathe out, and I adjust my dress.

"Are you okay?" He says coming over to me. He has tattoos all over his arms, and I instantly become in love with them. They're beautiful.

"I'm fine, thank you-" He does something completely unexpected and pulls me into a hug. I hug him back and let out a soundless-cry. Nothing happened but I could have imagined if something had. Of course, thinking these things only makes me sob harder and I close my eyes. I try holding my emotions in, but he continues to hold me and gently rubs my back.

"Shh, you're okay." He whispers, his lips close to my ear.

"Thank you," I say breathlessly, and I slowly draw away.

"I'm Oliver," He tells me, and smiles a bit.

"Ju-" I say before interrupting myself and clearing my throat. "Hunter, my name is Hunter." He tilts his head, but nods.

"Why were you out here alone?"

"My friend spent two hours on my hair, then I took it down, and she got mad, and thought it would be funny to make me walk to a party I never wanted to attend anyways." I say quietly, running my fingers through my hair.

"You know, you don't have to go to the party..." He says nervously, "You could come home with me and eat ice-cream. We can watch a movie," I want to say yes, but the tug of distrust pulls me backwards. What if he tries to do something? What if he only wants to take advantage of me?

Wait, what am I saying? He just saved me from that kind of situation, why would he drag me back into it?

I look up at him and take a deep breath. "I would love to."

He smiles a bit, and takes my hand. "Onward we go, my Queen." I smile at him.

"Where are we off to?" I say in a fail of a British accent, trying to mimic his. He smirks and nods toward the house on the other side of the street.

"THAT'S YOURS?" I shout, and startle myself. I jump backwards and he chuckles.

"Yeah, why?" He says casually, as if his house isn't a big-ass fucking mansion. I roll my eyes and hit him in the arm. "Come on, it's cooold out," He emphasizes 'cold' and leads me across the street. We walk into the house, and I'm immedietally thankful for the heat. At the orphanage I had been staying at, I survived winter without anything for a source of heat except very thin blankets. Ever since then, I'd always been really touchy when it came to cold weather.

"What do you want to watch?" He asks me, walking over to his 70 inch plasma TV. I gaze at the dark and light hardwood floors, my eyes scanning his home. It was breath takingly beautiful, enough for me to let out a sound of awe.

"Do you have Twilight?" I whisper after moments of looking over the first floor.

"We are not watching that." Oliver protests, pouting. I cross my arms over my chest, and return the pouty face.

"Pleeeaaase?" As soon as the word leaves my mouth, my phone rings and I jump. I look at the caller ID and it says 'Kayls' so I slide my thumb across the screen to answer it. I'm greeted with giggling.

"JULIEEEETTT. HIIII." Kaylie says into the phone and I flinch, she's drunk. Very drunk.

"Hey there Kaylie," I say calmly. "Where are you?"

"I'm in-" Hiccup. "The woods,"

"Kaylie, why?"

"Because I need aaaiiirrr," She slurs, and I hear a crashing noise. Someone says; Oh shit, I'm sorry.

The phone muffles and I hear another crash, and I look at Oliver quizzically. He shrugs and I press the phone back up to my ear.

"Kaylie?"

"Is Kaylie the girl that's sprawled out on the ground in a pile of her own puke?" A male's voice says back.

"That'd be her." I sigh softly.

"Well, she's kind of busy."

"Being knocked out?"

"Basically."

"I guess I'll come pick her up." I say, trying to sound cheerful.

"You could just tell me your address and I could drive her to you. I'm sober," The man suggests, and I think about this for a second.

"Wait," Oliver interrupts taking my phone from me. "Is this Andy?"

"Oliver? Is that you? Why are you with-" Pause, I assume he's looking at my contacts. "-Juliet?"

"I'm not, I'm with Hunter," Oliver explains.

"Her contact name is Juliet." Andy, who now had a name, protests.

"My real name is Juliet," I say impatiently. "Now, could we please get back on the topic of Kaylie?"

"Hold on Andy," Oliver hangs up and looks at me. "He's a good guy, he won't do anything if that's what you're worried about." I nod stiffly.

"I promise. Andy and I have been friends for a long time," He persists, and I smile uneasily.

"Okay." I agree, and pull at my arm sleeves to warm my hands.

Oliver calls Andy back on Kaylie's phone and he answers immediately.

"My address is 127 Pope Street," He announces into the speaker.

"I'll be there soon," Then the line goes dead, and I look towards Oli.

"I'm sorry that we won't be able to watch Twilight, I'll have to take Kaylie home after this."

"It's fine, but, could I at least have your number?" He smiles wearily.

"Oh, uhm--" I say awkwardly, looking down. "Of course,"

"Good because I already put my contact in your phone." He winks at me, and I smile a bit back. We awkwardly stare at one another for a almost five minutes, before he takes a deep breathe.

"Would you like to get out of that dress? I have some spare clothes that I'm sure could fit you." Oliver offers and I nod, breathing a sigh of relief.

"Please," I say and bend down to take my heels off. My ankles are throbbing and the bottom of my feet feel like they're on fire. He rushes upstairs and I hear a drawer creak, shut again, and then he's back beside me.

"Here." He smiles at me and hands me an oversized sweater and a pair of sweats. I take the clothes graciously.

"Where's the bathroom?" I ask quietly. He grabs my wrist, as if he's going to lead me to it, and I yank it back defensively. He stares down at my arms and shakes his head.

"Did I hurt you?" He asks with concern, stepping closer to me.

"I broke that wrist a few weeks ago and it's sore, that's all."

"Lift your sleeves Juliet," He orders softly, and I shake my head. He cannot see, he cannot see. Oliver doesn't care, and he gently grabs my arm and begins lifting my sleeves. He steps backwards, his eyes full of pain and worry. He's revealed my scars, all of them criss-crossing over another. I grit my teeth, because even after years of having my scars; I never did get quite used to being a tiger.

"Oh Juliet--"

"I- I had cats." I explain, pulling my sleeves back down.

He then steps closer to me and hugs me tightly. Shortly after the embrace is over, he begins to roll up his sleeves. Visible white scars mask one of his arms, and that's the only one I'm staring at.

"I have cats, too." He whispers, his voice echoing against the halls; and in this moment I feel as if nothing mattered.

For the first time in my life, I felt understood.

Then, it all came crashing down.

Starting with the sirens outside the house.

I'm pretending they aren't in bands yet. It is a fanfiction therefore it's fiction, and it's just easier to make more things up than finding all the facts and confusing myself.
