"I feel like shit," Liam muttered from beneath an excessively large pile of blankets. He wasn't exactly sure who he was talking to but he knew there was at least one person in the room. He hadn't emerged from his blanket fort in a few hours so he couldn't be certain.
"I'm sorry, Bud," Niall responded with a sigh and Liam was happy he didn't just talk to himself. He tossed the blankets off of his face before weakly sitting up, looking at Niall with sad eyes. Niall gave a sympathetic expression in response.
"Do you want anything?" Niall asked as he got up off of the couch, walking closer towards Liam. Liam shook his head but instantly regret it, wincing at the pain from his headache. Niall frowned before leaving the room.
He came back a few moments later with a water bottle and a pill for the pain. Liam gave a weak smile at the gesture before taking the pill, chugging down some water after it and instantly noting just how much his stomach was churning.
"I really hope you don't get us sick," Niall said as he took a couple steps back, remembering the flu is highly contagious. He really didn't want to catch this sickness because Liam looked absolutely miserable.
"You should probably stay away from me. I'm pretty germy," Liam joked before coincidentally coughing into his arm, causing Niall to leave the room as quick as he could. Liam knew he would probably be back in a couple minutes offering more help.
Niall felt terrible for the boys whenever any of them got sick and tried to be as useful as he could which usually resulted in him getting sick, making the whole situation a bigger ordeal. Liam tried to convince Niall to just keep his distance but it he knew it wouldn't work.
It was very quiet and lonely in the living room where Liam was lying. He decided it would be best if he got some sleep rather than sitting awake and being bored. He closed his eyes and within seconds he felt himself drifting off.
"Shit!" Louis shouted loudly from the bedroom as he sneezed for the fourth time in a row. He was definitely coming down with what Liam had and he wasn't happy about it at all. He grabbed a tissue, instantly sneezing into it.
"Alright?" Niall asked as he walked into the bedroom after hearing Louis' distressed shout. Louis groaned before crumpling up the tissue and throwing it in the trash can beside him. He turned to Niall with watery eyes and at this point he couldn't tell if it was from the sneezing or he was crying from the fact that he had caught the flu.
"I think I'm getting sick too," Louis said with a sniffle before sitting down on the bed. Niall frowned. He now had two boys to take care of and he was sure he'd catch the dreaded sickness after this.
"Do you want to go rest with Liam in the living room?" Niall asked softly and Louis nodded, not feeling up to speaking right now. It was understandable, his throat was probably sore and no one liked talking with a sore throat.
Niall led Louis all the way into the living room, making sure to be extra quiet once he noticed Liam was asleep. He helped Louis lie down on the couch and made sure he was comfortable before rushing off to hide from the germs once again.
Niall walked into the kitchen to grab some orange juice, hoping it would help him stay healthy and protected from all the germs around him. Just as Niall was pouring the orange juice he remembered that he hadn't seen Harry today.
He put the orange juice back into the fridge before walking over to Harry's bedroom, gently knocking on the door. He heard shuffling before the door unlocked and Harry slowly opened it up.
"Yeah?" Harry asked in confusion, unsure of why Niall was knocking on his door. Niall let out a sigh of relief when he noticed Harry looked totally healthy. He hoped it would stay that way or else he'd definitely have his hands full.
"I just wanted to make sure you're feeling okay. Louis' caught the flu now too," Niall said and Harry frowned.
"Yeah, I'm fine," the younger said and Niall gave a nod before walking back into the living room to check on Louis. Louis was usually pretty self-sufficient when he was sick but Niall still wanted to offer as much help as he could.
"You feeling alright?" Niall whispered as he placed a caring hand on Louis' shoulder. Louis was now sitting up shakily, looking absolutely terrible.
"Y-yeah, just hot," Louis responded as quietly as he could before glancing over at Liam, making sure he was still asleep. Niall noticed Louis was extremely sweaty and frowned. It was pretty cold in their house so he knew Louis must be feeling awful.
"I'm sorry you got sick, Lou," Niall whispered and Louis gave a small shrug before lying back down, gently draping his arm over his eyes, blocking out any sunlight. He felt a headache coming on and he hated it.
"We should have gotten our flu shots when we were supposed to," Louis groaned and Niall felt his heart speed up. He had completely forgotten to get his flu shot done earlier this month and he was now terrified, knowing he had a really high chance of getting sick.
"Y-yeah," Niall responded, his heart still racing. He needed to get outside, away from all the germs. It was now feeling extremely hot and stuffy in the house to him so he rushed through the front door.
He took a deep breath once he got outside and quickly realized just how much he appreciated fresh air. He heard the door open up and turned around to see who it was. He was thankful when he saw it was Harry.
"Are you good?" Harry asked, sounding amused as he watched Niall dramatically breathe in the cool air. Niall gave a small laugh, realizing just how ridiculous he probably looked. He knew it was helping him though so it was worth it.
"Yeah, just getting some fresh air," Niall said.
Niall was confused when he looked at Harry, only to see the boy frowning. He didn't question it though, he wanted to wait for Harry to bring it up, hoping it wasn't what he thought it was.
The two boys stood quietly for a few moments and Niall was getting a little impatient. He just wanted to hear if Harry was getting sick or not but he didn't want to ask in case he wasn't. Harry had a pretty weak immune system and was usually the first to get sick out of the boys so Niall was pretty proud that Harry wasn't sick yet. It was a huge accomplishment.
Niall looked up at Harry once again to see he was now taking deep breaths, looking like he was about to puke. Niall instantly knew this wasn't going to be good. Harry must have come into the front yard to try and calm his stomach.
"I f-feel weird," Harry whimpered, resting a hand on his stomach. Niall frowned as he walked closer to Harry, sympathetically rubbing the younger boy's back. He hoped Harry was just worrying too much about getting sick that he made himself feel this way because for all he knew the flu usually didn't have vomiting listed as a symptom.
"You're okay. Tell me what's wrong," Niall whispered softly, worried if he spoke any louder he'd bother Harry's stomach more somehow. Harry shook aggressively as if he had just jumped into an ice cold pool and Niall knew this wasn't right.
"I d-don't know, I just feel like I'm going to throw u-up," Harry sobbed as he wrapped his arms protectively around his stomach, not really sure why this was happening. He didn't have any other flu symptoms, just a swirling stomach.
Maybe there were two sicknesses going around the house. The thought definitely didn't excite Niall but it was the only reasonable explanation. Harry bent over slightly and Niall knew what was about to happen.
Niall was quick to gather Harry's curls and hold them back as he retched harshly over the grass. Both boys had no idea how this just happened. It was seemingly out of nowhere because Harry felt fine when he first walked outside.
"You're alright. Let it out," Niall said softly as Harry sobbed, really not wanting to throw up at all. Niall felt his phone buzz in his pocket and instantly grabbed it out. He had a random feeling that it was an important text.
He read the text and frowned. Louis apparently needed him inside right now and Niall had no idea why but he knew he couldn't leave Harry alone like this. Niall explained the situation to Harry who was still hunched over and Harry begged Niall to go help Louis.
"I-I'll be fine, I promise," Harry said unconvincingly but Niall still decided to go inside, nervous to see what was wrong. He rushed into the living room to see Liam was now awake too.
"What's wrong?" Niall asked, out of breath from all the running he had just done. He was beginning to feel tired from all the care-taking he had done today and he wasn't sure how much more he could take.
"My head hurts so bad," Louis sobbed uncontrollably, burying his face in his hands, trying to hide the tears that were streaming down. Niall felt his heart break at the sight before running into the kitchen to grab the bottle of painkillers he had gotten out for Liam earlier.
"Here, sit up," Niall said as he grabbed Louis' arm, gently pulling him into a sitting position. Louis winced at the movement before grabbing the bottle from Niall, instantly opening it and popping a few pills in his mouth.
"Thanks," Louis sniffled as he lowered himself back down, he was still crying like crazy and Niall had no idea how to help. Liam looked over with a sympathetic expression, feeling guilty for causing all of this.
Once Niall finished helping Louis he ran back outside to make sure Harry was still okay. He saw the boy was now on his knees, puking harshly onto the grass below. He used a shaky arm to steady himself as another heave racked his body.
"Poor guy," Niall whispered to himself as he walked closer to Harry. Harry looked up at Niall with tear-filled eyes, clearly not enjoying himself. Niall offered Harry a hand once he seemed like he was done puking and Harry gladly accepted.
Niall carefully pulled the boy up in one swift movement and was slightly impressed with his own strength. Harry nearly fell over as he tried to stand straight up, his legs were far too shaky for him to be standing on his own right now.
"You can rest in the living room with the other boys now, yeah?" Niall said as he dragged Harry back into the house. Liam and Louis looked a little confused as Niall helped Harry onto the last bit of the sofa they had left.
"You too, Harry?" Liam asked sadly as he noticed how miserable Harry looked. Harry gave a weak nod before burrowing himself into the pillows on the couch, trying to fall asleep so he could forget about just how bad his stomach was hurting.
Niall felt his head start to ache at this point and he wasn't sure if it was from being overworked or he was starting to get sick too. Either way he decided to sit down on the couch with all the sick boys and watch some TV.
He flicked through the channels, looking for something interesting before stopping on the golf channel. Harry groaned and Niall felt his heart speed up, figuring he was about to be sick again. Niall stood up from his position on the couch, ready to help Harry.
"Are you going to be sick?" Niall asked and Harry nearly laughed at Niall's concern.
"I don't want to watch the golf channel," Harry said and Niall rolled his eyes, not putting the pieces together that Harry's groan was because of Niall's terrible TV choice. It was a blessing in disguise though because Niall realized he should grab a couple supplies in case Harry actually did feel the need to be sick again and can't make it to the bathroom.
Niall walked into the kitchen and grabbed a small bowl they occasionally used for baking. He knew it was disgusting that it would soon be filled with puke but he figured they could always buy a new one.
He also grabbed some stomach relaxer, some fever reducer and a couple bottles of water. He walked back into the living room before placing a bottle of water beside each boy and setting the bowl on the floor next to Harry.
Harry frowned at the bowl and Niall could tell just the sight of it was making him sick. Niall sat down on the couch beside Harry and wrapped a supportive arm around the sick boy's shoulders. Harry was still shaking like a leaf and Niall hoped he could calm him down somehow.
"Do you want some medicine?" Niall asked, directing the question towards Harry although the offer was open for anyone who wanted some. Harry nodded and Niall was quick to pour it out and hand it to him.
Harry drank it quickly, reminding himself that the quicker he took it the quicker he'd be feeling better. He was pretty dramatic when it came to the taste of medicine though so it was no surprise when the boy gagged and the medicine came shooting back up.
He hurried to grab the mixing bowl before throwing it under his chin just in time to catch the steady stream of puke that came pouring out. Louis groaned before burying his face in a pillow once again, trying to hide from the sight and smell of the vomiting that was happening right beside him.
"If you're going to puke please go to the toilet next time." Louis said sassily and Niall rolled his eyes. Louis was definitely not being very considerate. Harry was obviously already feeling extremely sick and now he was probably feeling bad about puking in front of the other boys.
"S-sorry," Harry said softly as he wiped his mouth with his shirtsleeve, feeling like he was done for a moment before his stomach gave out once again and he scrambled to get over the bowl in time.
He retched loudly before emptying more of his stomachs contents into the mixing bowl. It was filling up quickly and Niall decided it wasn't going to work if Harry kept puking at this rate. He made a mental note to find a bigger bowl after this was over.
Harry looked over at Louis with a frown, his eyes were glistening with tears and he now felt bad that he didn't think about running to the toilet. It was probably making Liam and Louis feel a lot worse to see Harry being sick like that.
Harry weakly leaned back into the couch and Niall was quick to take the bowl away, rushing to the bathroom to clean it out.
"You alright, Harry?" Liam asked and Harry nodded before sniffling. He grabbed his blanket before covering himself with it and trying to find a comfortable position.
"I'm sorry for throwing up," Harry said sadly and Louis immediately felt bad once he heard the words. He didn't really think about the fact that Harry probably couldn't help it and now he felt like a horrible person.
"No, I'm sorry for snapping. I didn't mean to be rude," Louis said with a sigh, uncovering his face from the pillow to show Harry just how genuine he was being. Harry gave a weak smile, trying to tell Louis it was okay but he was too tired to actually use words.
Niall came back in with a new bowl before sitting back on the couch to watch golf. Harry fell asleep within a few minutes and Niall was happy the boy was getting some rest, he definitely needed it.
Apparently the golf channel was extremely boring to the other boys because when Niall looked over he saw Louis and Liam were also asleep. Niall laughed quietly to himself before returning his focus to the TV, hoping they would all wake up feeling better.
