I write to give thanks

To those who push me down

They say “you can’t be a lesbian

And be in,

Love”; with another woman

Is wrong, goes against the bible

Strikes down the cross on which Jesus

Died and buried our sins in the womb of forgiveness

All I was taught is to love, the bible taught me to love

My mother and father taught me to love

And if I dare love someone with a body of my own

And my parents and God turn their back

On the only right I’ve ever known

You can turn your back too America

Burn the stars and stripes into my flesh

Make me bleed red

White and blue is my skin

Blue like blueberries with bruises

Sweet like juices that fall from her lips

And the bruises and contusions which attach us

To the hip

and oh if you can’t be gay

And be divine

Then divinity is the division between your bible

And my revision
