Wasteland
I lay on the floor of the abandoned classroom, managing to get away from all the stares and whispers. I honestly didn't know what I did, yesterday I was smiling and laughing with my friends now I feel...empty.
Even they were avoiding me; so much for friends, huh. My bitter laugh rang out in the silence of the old music room, disturbing the peace that I had embraced in the little time I was here. I gazed up at the cracks in the ceiling paint and watched as one of the little flakes dropped towards the floor almost like an angel's falling feathers.
I heard a distant banging and a yell disrupting my quiet, I sighed reluctantly standing up and making my way towards the slightly ajar door. I opened it fully to see something banging its head against the janitor's closet. The banging getting louder and louder, almost getting unbearable until the figure froze turning towards the door I had just opened. I gasped in horror its jaw hanging unhinged and its teeth sharpened to a deadly point.
How could-this happen? Just this morning people were whispering, pointing at me, their judgmental eyes burning holes into the back of my head, their laughter following me through the halls until I had escaped. Then the world just went dark, the thing lifted its head, staring directly at me. I couldn't see, whipping my head around blindly to find any source of light. Stumbling back I hit the wall with a small thud, the thing had stumbled closer towards me its blank eyes glazed over with an insatiable hunger that I knew it could never escape from nor ignore.
Its gaze had me frozen against the wall, fearing if I breathed to loudly the thing would suddenly lunge at me and tear my throat out. Leaving my rotting corpse as the only evidence that I had ever existed in this lonely world. It's ragged breathing the only sound in the classroom...
