•Christmas Eve•

•Y/n's POV•

"Talk to him," Selena told me as she licked the spoon that was covered in frosting from the cookies we were making.

Ever since the day Tyler overheard me talking to Selena, which was a week ago, he hasn't talked to me once. Selena had kept bugging me, and telling me that I needed to talk things out with him, but ever since my parents told me we were staying to New York, it was the last thing I wanted to do.

Since I was just going to be leaving, I didn't want to confess my feelings to him. I didn't want to just tell him everything I've been thinking and feeling, and then just leave him and not see him for another year or so. If I were to do that, it would almost be like teasing him. Telling him everything he wanted to hear, but then leaving him to question our feelings for each other all over again.

"About what? About how I'm moving back, and then he'll be crushed?" I asked, taking spoon and spreading frosting across the cookie. Selena placed her spoon down on the counter and glared at me.

"Look, everyone here wants you to stay. Me, Tyler, the rest of our family. But your parents said you were going back to New York and that's that. The least you could do is fix things between you and Tyler," she argued, and then picked up her spoon once again.

"Stop eating all the frosting," I complained, and took the spoon from her hand. "These are supposed to be for the cookies."

"Whatever." She rolled her eyes and went over to the dish with all of the finished Christmas cookies on them. "I'm eating one."

"I might as well have one too," I responded, placing the last of the cookies on the dish, and then picking up one for myself.

Selena went up to her room, and I followed behind her. Our family was making dinner for Christmas Eve, so we couldn't be in the kitchen for much longer.

She was laying on her bed, and I was sitting on the floor as a Christmas movie played on her TV.

"So, I think after dinner would be a great time to talk to Tyler," she commented, looking over to me from her bed.

"Fine," I sighed, finally giving in. She smiled in response, happy to know that I was willing to talk to Tyler.

After dinner came around, Dallas agreed to drive me and Selena to Tylers house. Selena told me she'd be staying in the car though, so that I could talk to Tyler alone.

As I got in the back of Dallas's car, I was completely nervous. I hadn't talked to Tyler in a week, and because of that, I assumed he was really hurt.

I thought about what his reaction would be when I told him I wouldn't be staying. I was guessing he would be sad, and surprised. I knew that the whole time I've been here, he's been trying to gather up enough courage to ask me out. But that wouldn't matter anymore, because I couldn't be with him.

Long distance wouldn't work out either. I had only really gotten to know Tyler for a month. Before that, I barely had a clue about him. I knew he was a sweet boy with a nice smile, but that's about it. Ever since I arrived here at the beginning of December, I've gotten to know him so much better, and I was extremely thankful for that because I found that he was one of the most sweetest people you'll ever meet. I really wished I would've been able to stay with him.

I looked up and noticed that Dallas stopped his car in front of Tylers driveway, and before I got out of the car, I looked at them both nervously.

"You probably won't see him before you go back home, so if I were you, tell him how you feel," Selena told me, but I quickly shook my head.

"I can't do that. I can't tell him I like him and then leave," I responded.

"Yes you can. If you leave without telling him how you feel, he'll only be more confused. Tell him," she said, and then I nodded quietly.

"Okay, I'll try," I said, and my voice was so low it came out as a whisper.

I opened the car door, and jumped out onto the sidewalk, walking up his driveway and to his front door.

I knocked, and hoped Tyler would be the one answering it. It was night time, but it wasn't that late so I figured he was still awake.

A few seconds later, the door opened, and I saw Tyler standing there with a black long sleeve shirt on, and pajama pants. His hair was messy as if he was just sleeping, but I hoped that I didn't wake him up.

"What do you want?" He asked with a blank face as he leaned on the door.

"I'm sorry... did I wake you up?" I asked, not answering his question.

"Yeah. I was just sleeping through a movie though. No big deal," he responded, rubbing his eyes. "So, what do you want?" He asked again, still with a tired look on his face.

"I have to talk to you," I told him, and he then stepped outside of his house and carefully shut the door behind him. He then looked at me with a questioning face, so I began to explain what I needed to say.

"I'm sorry for what happened. I'm sorry for what I said. I feel so stupid for saying that.I hope you know that I didn't mean it. I don't only want to be your friend, Tyler. I only said that because I was frustrated," I finally said, and it felt good to admit everything to him.

"But I'm leaving, and this is what I was afraid of this whole time. Getting too attached to you to the point where my heart would break when I knew I couldn't stay. Even though I'm not staying, I still want to tell you that I like you a lot, Tyler. And if I were staying, I would more than anything want to go out with you and get to know you even better," I explained, and I could feel tears leaving my eyes.

"Y-you're leaving?" Tyler stuttered, his eyes widened and the sound of disbelief in his voice. I could only nod in response as more tears dripped down my cheeks. I tried to wipe them away with the sleeve of my hoodie, but Tyler grabbed my arm and pulled it away.

He moved his hand up to my cheek, and wiped the tears away with his thumb. He pulled me closer by cupping my cheek and moving my head closer towards his.

"I like you a lot too, Y/n. I'm sorry for ignoring you this past week. I've missed you, a lot," he responded, and as our faces neared, he rested his forehead against mine.

"Ever since I met you, everything's been different. I don't know how to explain it, but all I know is that everything has changed," he said quietly, his bright brown eyes staring into mine. And then I saw him close his eyes, and his lips neared mine. I quickly did the same, and not even a second later our lips were pressed against each other, and there we were, kissing outside of his front door on Christmas Eve.

I wrapped my arms around his neck, wanting nothing more than to live in this moment forever.

But it was soon over, because his lips parted from mine, and I brought my arms down from his neck as he took a step back. He had a small smile on his face, which caused me to smile too.

"Since you're going back to New York soon, why don't you stay over a little longer? We can talk, and get to know each other more as if we really have been friends forever," he suggested, and I thought it was a good idea.

"Sure, let me just go tell Dallas and Selena," I told him, walking down the driveway to Dallas's car.

Tyler and I were sitting on the couch, talking as some Christmas movie played on the TV. There was a ton of candy canes, cookies, and brownies set on the coffee table, so Tyler told me that I could help myself and have whatever I wanted.

"Hey, I know it might be a little late for this, but I was wondering, until you leave, would you like to be my girlfriend?" He asked, a cute smile on his face as he placed a small candy cane in his mouth.

"Sure, Tyler. I'd love to be your girlfriend until I leave," I giggled, kissing his cheek.

So he's my boyfriend now. For some reason, it fazed me. Even if it was literally only going to last until the day I left, it still made me feel happy inside knowing that I had Tyler with me.

Tyler and I began asking each other random questions, so we would be able to get know each other more than we already did. We asked random questions, like 'what's your favorite color?' or 'what's your favorite movie?'.

It was my turn to go next, and I thought of something, so I decided to ask him.

"What's your biggest fear?" I asked, and then he froze for a moment, and left his mouth slightly open, like he wanted to say something but couldn't. I felt like I made him uncomfortable, and I wished I would've never asked him in the first place.

"Well... there's more than one," he finally stated, and I realized that this must have been a more person thing for him, so I nodded and listened closely to what he was saying.

"This might be deep, but I'll tell you anyways," he told me, and then took a deep breathe. "I fear of having no purpose. I wonder what the point of me being here is, and I'm scared that I'll never begin to find it. Finding your entire purpose seems almost impossible, but there must be some way to start finding the beginning of it," he responded, and I nodded, interesting in what he was saying. He seemed a bit nervous, like he was scared to mess up on explaining this.

"Another thing I fear is love. When you trust someone with everything you have, they can crush you whenever they want. And I don't want someone having full advantage over me. It just scares me, and that's why I don't think love will ever be for me," he explained, and he was looking down. I noticed a hurt look in his eyes, so I quickly moved closer to him and wrapped my arms around him to comfort him.

After a while, Dallas texted me that he was outside to pick me up. I told Tyler, and he said he wanted to walk me out.

Tyler and I walked outside the front door, and Tyler quietly shut it behind him.

"This might be the last time I see you in a while," I said, and I began to feel tears in my eyes again.

"I'll miss you," Tyler told me, and he leaned in to softly kiss my lips.

"I'll miss you too. Goodbye Tyler," I quietly waved as I walked off, but then stopped in my tracks and turned around.

"Wait!" I called to him just before he could close his front door.

"What?" he asked, raising an eyebrow as I walked up to him.

"I love you," I smiled, and quickly kissed his cheek. "Bye!" I said, then ran off to the car.

I looked at his face as I got into the car, and his mouth was wide open, as if he couldn't believe what just happened. I saw him shake his head, and then walk inside as he shut the front door.

I thought about what I had just managed to say to him, smiling at the fact that I had enough courage to say it.

Tyler and I agreed that we would text each other everyday, so that wouldn't have had to be the last time we talked in a while. But even though someone says they're going to do something, it doesn't mean it's going to happen for sure.
