Chapter 14 | The book of brail, Kitty Kitty

I walked over clutching the book tightly in my grip. Saanti didn't look up as I approached but I knew the king of hell was well aware of my presents. Neither one of us spoke a word as I pulled the chair out to sit across from him. He then tilted his head to look at me, his gold eyes glinting with interest. I shifted nervously.

"I assume you met Johnathan," he stated looking down at the board.

I nodded looking down at the board now noticing the little details. The board itself along with the pieces were of course glass, but each square was infused with what looked to be either melted rubies or emeralds. The pieces were also either white gold or a vibrant yellowing gold. In the corner engraved was the name Segal. I wondered who that was and why Saanti had his board.

"And what did my old friend have to say?" he asked sounding amused.

I looked at him, his eyes lingered on the engraving with his eyes twinkling and a grin on his face. I shivered not wanting to know what he was thinking of.

"He gave me a book," I mumbled.

I pulled the book from its hiding spot then placing it in front of him careful of the chess board. He picked it up and flipped through it with no emotion on his face, and I shifted nervously again. I watched as he dragged his finger over one of the pages then he looked up at me and rose an eyebrow.

"I'm surprised he gave this to you," he said then chuckled almost annoyed.

I remained silent.

"This book is a list of every Nephilim brought to hell and their current status. It was originally made by Lucifer the first as it works on its own," he said quietly.

My eyes widened and I stared at it. My palms became sweaty and my heart raced. I could use the book to find Daniel, and suddenly all thoughts of the masked man were gone. I reached for the book only to have Saanti pull it away quickly. Anger boiled through me.

"If you get this you will attempt to find your lost brother, and then you will leave. I cannot allow that to happen but I will allow you to find this masked rotting angel blood, understand?" he leaned forward resting his elbows on the table.

I didn't say anything, I was absolutely pissed. I couldn't keep the glare and rage off my face and suddenly Saanti wasn't the man I had thought he was. He leaned back twirling the book in his hands, my glory crackled inside me.

"Don't or the book will be destroyed. I am the king of hell and despite how much I adore my daughter-in-law you are the next queen of hell. You are powerful and my son needs you when it is his time to be king, I cannot have to leaving. Try to understand," he sighed keeping the book still in his hands.

I thought of nothing, knowing my thoughts weren't safe. Then I thought that he was right, for now. I had to keep focused on the masked man and after he was dealt with I would deal with Daniel, either way I would find my brother. Saanti smiled, brightening completely.

"Excellent. It will be fun to play a game of capture the book with you but for now, all you must do it think of the masked rotting angel blood," he paused taking in an exaggerated breath of air, "my what a mouthful, and the book with flip to the book then I who can read brail will read the book. Isn't that simple?"

It was simple but I didn't trust Saanti. He was up to something.

"That hurts Cloud, I have your best interest in mind," he frowned patting the spot one would have a heart. Saanti didn't have a heart though, he did have the ability to read my thoughts when it was a clear breach of privacy. He sighed and shook his head. I turned my nose up to him.

"Let's begin. Simply think of the man," he grumbled placing the book in front of me and leaning forward.

The perfect position to snatch the book back with his grubby fingers if I were to try and take the book. I wouldn't however. That wouldn't be a wise plan considering Lucas wold also more than likely find out. I simply closed my eyes and did what the king had instructed. Every detail that was etched into my mind from the mask of a dead rabbit with closed eyes to the white gloves he wore. I could hear Saanti lean forward in his chair then he muttered something. I opened my eyes to see him running his finger across one of the pages. The little bumps were stained red – different from the rest of the yellowing other pages and bumps. Suddenly he froze and looked over at me, his face clearing of all emotions.

"Saanti?" I asked anxious to find the masked man.

"He's out of hell, gone. You'll never find him," he said quickly picking up the book and got out of the chair.

My chances of finding the man were slipping through my fingers.

"Wait! Where are you going?" I cried bolting from my own chair to chase after him and catch his arm.

"Cloud, I have hell to run. I am leaving. If you go after this rotting angel blood you will only find suffering," he sighed pulling out of my grip to continue walking away.

I watched him go with the book in his hand. Tears burned my eyes as he left. I turned to the table where his chess board lay and I couldn't hold back my desperate anger. I let out a snarl as my glory broke through my skin. It heated up, waved pulsing off my skin. I wiped the board clean off the table. It shattered before it hit the ground and the pieces melted into puddles among the grass. My glory pulsed again smashing the table.

"Lady Cloud are you alright?" I froze hearing Kit behind me and I breathed in slowly. The glory retreated back into my skin filling me with warmth and I calmed down.

"Sorry Kitty, I'm ok," I sighed sitting in the chair.

I was impressed at the mess I made however, I didn't think Lucas would be as easily impressed or amused. Kitty stepped over the mess to sit on the chair Saanti was previously sitting on. I avoided her gaze.

"You once asked me why I call Sir Lucifer Sir correct?" She asked softly after a while.

I looked up at her and nodded. She smiled warmly looking up at the sunless sky.

"I grew up in the Debil District, and soon I became one of the best fighters with one of the best gifts. No other demon could teleport as rapidly as I could and soon I had the attention of a travelling demon who worked at an auction in the north. He went by the name of Herlen," she paused to look back at me, "he offered to sell me to the king and give me a sum of the profit. Growing up in Debil poor I agreed excited for the chance at royalty and money."

The name Herlen sounded familiar but my mind came up with a blank and I nodded at her encouragingly to continue. I had no idea she grew outside of the luxury of the Inferno District. She chuckled and closed her eyes.

"I was bought quickly by the King and paired to work as his son's bodyguard alongside Samuel. I hated Sir Lucifer more than I hated anyone. He was cold and always down to business with such disrespect I had ever seen. I was treated as a queen in Debil but here I was treated as a servant. Despite this I gave him no mind. One night I got so infuriated at his disrespect I told him I would never treat him as an equal let alone royalty thinking he would beat me," she laughed, "he didn't. Instead the stubborn prince promised by the end of the year he would change my mind to call him sir."

This time she hesitated and a sad look filled her face. I was tempted to tell her to stop the tale which looked like gave her so much heartbreak but selfishly I wanted to know more. She took a minute to rub her face and take a deep breath.

"Then I fell in love with a servant. She was beautiful and smart and she said she loved me," she laughed coldly, "she tried to kill me. It was all a rouse to kill the guards of the prince to get to him. I soon knew he knew this but he didn't want to interfere. I loved her and she never loved me. He saved me – but he didn't kill her. He sent her to the dungeon then changed my role as a bodyguard to the director of the dungeon. I started calling him Sir since that day," she finished her story and wiped her face dry of any sad emotions.

"What happened to her?" I asked.

Kitty grinned from ear to ear and held out her hand. I looked at her confused.

"Would you like to meet Tizana?" She purred with narrowed eyes. I swallowed frightfully then took her head. She laughed and we disappeared into a cloud of blue smoke.
