As I sit here
Remembering the first time we met
I have a heavy heart
That feels like it's made of stone
From the loss of such
An important person.
We would spend nights together
Watching corny movies
And eating buckets of ice cream
Straight out of the tub.
We would stay up late
Talking to each other
About life
Our problems
And everything in between.
She was my therapist
And I was hers.
We each had our own problems
And we were each others' solutions.
The first date we had
Was the first time she opened up
About her life.
"I've witnessed people die
And I couldn't help them.
I've witnessed heartbreaks
And I couldn't stop them.
I've witnessed love
And I couldn't get over it."
I also remember
Trying to fall asleep that night
And wondering why
The most beautiful people in this world
Are also the ones
With the saddest stories to tell.
