Chapter Eighteen
I look over at Kim, sweat is beading down her face. Her hands are clutching the wheel so tightly her knuckles are turning white.
“Okay, now gently take your foot off the brake.” I say as calmly as I can.
Her eyes are wide and she’s looking straight ahead, all she can do is nod. The car slowly starts moving at a snail’s pace, but at least it’s moving.
I turn to smile at her proudly, “Good, you’re moving. Do you want to go ahead and press the gas?”
She turns to me for a brief second with a horrified look on her face, “You want me to go faster?”
“That’s how you drive a car Kim, you’re gonna need to go faster,” I tell her patiently.
It’s Monday, after school, we’re in an abandoned parking lot and I’m trying to teach Kim how to drive my car.
“I don’t see why you didn’t let me go first,” Seth says from the backseat, “At least I’m not scared. We’ve been here for an hour and have barely gone five feet. Didn’t you try this last year? If she didn’t get it then, what makes you think she can get it now?”
Kim glares at him through the rearview mirror, “Stop exaggerating you stupid jerk.”
I turn in my seat and give him a pointed look, “Seth, now is really not the time to piss her off. Now stop complaining and be patient.”
Alex, who for some weird reason wanted to come with us, leans forward in his seat, “You should’ve left one of them at home.”
“I didn’t want to leave one at home. I wanted to get them both started today so I can go home and study.”
He just shrugs in response and pulls his phone out of his pocket. We’re going about ten miles per hour right now, as slow as that may seem it’s definitely an improvement from last year.
Kim turns to look at me briefly, “Why did you bring him again?”
Alex leans forward again until he’s right next to her face, “’Cause I wanted to.”
For the next fifteen minutes they keep up a steady conversation about nothing important, while I randomly give Kim instructions in-between, Alex has managed to keep her distracted enough to not be nervous but to still concentrate on driving.
After another thirty minutes she easily pulls into a parking spot and turns to give me a beaming smile that I can’t help but return, “I did it!”
I smile at her proudly, “Good job Kim. Okay, Seth’s turn.”
The two of them switch places, but not without giving each other a few annoyed shoves. Seth eagerly climbs into the driver’s seat and calmly adjusts his mirrors and puts his seatbelt on.
I turn to him, ready to give him instructions, but before I can even get a word out the car lurches forward at an alarming speed making us three passengers yelp in surprise.
“Seth slow down! We’re in a parking lot not a race track!”
He ignores me and continues to drive like a madman, even with the three of us yelling at him to slow down.
Then, out of nowhere this little car with a mom and her son pull into the parking lot, probably with the same intention to teach her son as I had with Seth and Kim.
And we’re heading right towards them.
I turn to Seth horrified but unable to yell at him anymore, panic seizes my voice and stops my words in my throat. The little car is completely unaware of us barreling towards it, I can see the mom talking to her son and pointing to various things inside the car.
Finally, there seems to be some kind of reaction on Seth’s face. He looks at me, his face mirrors the horror I’m feeling and he flinches and let’s go of the wheel in panic.
Somehow I manage to reach over and turn the wheel sharply to the right, just barely avoiding the crash that seemed inevitable.
Once we’re safely away from the car, Seth regains his composure and slams on the brakes. My car screeches to a halt, making the four of us move forward then and hit our backs against the seats as we fall back.
For a while the four of us just sit there breathing hard, I reach over to put the car in park and take the key out of the ignition. I send what I hope is an intimidating look at Seth, “Get out, we’re going home.”
I smile inwardly when he flinches at my tone, he fumbles with his seatbelt a little before unlocking his door and getting out and into the backseat.
Alex quietly moves to the passenger seat while I move to the driver’s. We sit in silence for a minute before I start the car and head home.
After a few minutes of intense silence Seth breaks it, “I’m sorry I didn’t even see that car. I didn’t think I was going that fast.”
I snort derisively, “Yeah right. Now you see why I didn’t let you go first.”
I look in the rearview mirror to see him looking down shamefully, “Does this mean you’re not going to take us driving anymore?”
I pull into the drive way and turn to look at him. I sigh, feeling guilty about that look on his face, “No, I’ll take you. But, if you ever drive like that again I’ll make sure you never sit your ass in the driver’s seat again, understand?”
He nods, quickly accepting my offer even with the threat attached.
Jason comes up to me as we walk into the house with a smug look, “How was it?”
I glare at him, signaling that if he tries to talk to me about it I’ll bite his head off. I guess he gets the message because he backs away with his hands raised in surrender still smiling, “Alright I get it, I just thought you should know that your boyfriend’s upstairs.”
I perk up at the thought of Tristan being there, and quickly head upstairs.
I check my room first, but he’s not there. Confused I walk down the hallway, looking in other rooms. I finally find him in Ben’s room. He’s sitting backwards in the desk chair facing away from the door while talking to Ben who’s sitting on his bed with a book in his hands.
I watch them for a little bit, some emotion blooms in my chest making my heart swell. Seeing them together, to know that my brothers like and approve of him and see him as a friend means the world to me. Somehow this boy wormed his way into my life and became an almost permanent part. To know that my brothers see him like too makes me so happy, if they didn’t I know mine and Tristan’s relationship wouldn’t be the same.
I’m pulled out of my thoughts when I realize no one’s talking anymore. I look up to see two pairs of eyes, one blue and one green, staring at me curiously.
“What the hell sis? You’re such a creep.” Says Ben, laughing.
I feel a light blush cover my face from embarrassment, “Shut up. I wasn’t creeping. Jason told me Tristan was here so I was looking for him.”
Smirking Ben replies, “Yeah sure. That’s why you were just standing there staring at us like a creep.”
I look down with a sigh, “Okay Ben, joke’s old.”
“No it’s not.”
“Yes it is.”
“No it’s not.”
“Are we really going to have this argument?”
“Guess not. You messed it up.”
I give him blank look, mumbling, “You’re such an idiot.”
He stands up and points at me dramatically, “Hey! I heard that!”
I just glare at him, forgetting the reason I came to his room in the first place. Soon enough we’re having an all-out staring contest. Suddenly there’s a pillow flying at me, making me blink first.
I look at Ben, in mock outrage, “Hey, what the hell?! You cheated!”
He puts his hand over his heart, “What?! I did nothing.”
We hear someone laugh and the two of us turn our head toward the source to find Tristan watching us in amusement, “You guys can be such children sometimes.”
Ben looks at him with mock sorrow, “Welcome to my life.”
Tristan laughs then turns to me, “Hey, how was the driving session.”
Ben nods his head, “Oh yeah. How’d that go?”
I sigh audibly and shrug my shoulders, “It was terrifying.”
At that the two of them burst out laughing. Again, I send a glare at them and turn to walk away, not willing to be there if I’m not going to be taken seriously.
A hand grasps my arm before I can get too far. I’m spun around and come face to face with a pair of sparkling green eyes, “I’m sorry, I wasn’t laughing at you. You just said it so casually, it was funny.” Tristan says, he chuckles a little at the end.
I can’t stay upset with him, so I lean into his embrace, “It’s okay. It really was scary though, Seth almost got us and a mom and her son killed.”
He hugs me closer to his body, “Now I really feel bad that I laughed. I’m sorry.”
I smile at him reassuringly, “Don’t feel bad, it’s not really a big deal. What’re you doing here anyway?”
He looks at me confused, “Didn’t I tell you I was coming over after school?”
“No.”
“Oh. Well, I thought I did. I need to study for this English midterm. I figured you could help me since you’re good in English.”
“That’s fine with me but, Trist? Don’t you have to be at home with Emma and Connor?”
He looks at me again, but there’s a new shine in his eyes and happiness on his face, “No they’re with my grandparents. My dad left for his ‘business trip’ early this morning and is going to be gone until the new year.”
My jaw drops and I jump into his arms, “Oh my gosh, Tristan that’s awesome!”
He laughs, “I know right? I’ve never felt so relaxed. Even if it is just for a few weeks, I feel like I don’t have to worry so much you know?”
I pull back a little to give him a kiss, “That’s great Tristan. I’m happy for you.”
“Yeah it is.” He smiles and leans forward for another kiss.
“Keep the PDA nonexistent guys, none of us want to see it.” Ben says, obnoxiously.
I turn and stick my tongue out childishly, he just laughs and walks away.
I turn back to Tristan, “I guess we better get started on studying.”
“Guess so. Isn’t Alex with you?” He asks.
“Oh yeah. I forgot about him. I left him down there with Jason. Just go to my room I’m gonna go get him.”
I head downstairs, sure enough Jason and Alex are about to plug in the PS3 but before they can I interrupt, “Shouldn’t you guys be studying?”
Jason turns to me and snorts, “Studying is overrated. Besides I’ve got everything I need to know up here.” He taps his head.
I roll my eyes but don’t respond, Jason sees no need to study. I turn to Alex instead, “What about you?”
He sighs and slumps his shoulders, “You’re right. I better head home.”
“Well, Tristan and I are gonna study upstairs. Why don’t you come with us? You can call Alyssa and tell her to come over too.”
At that he looks away and won’t meet my gaze, “Alyssa and I are…not really talking to each other right now.”
“What? Why?”
He hesitates and still won’t meet my gaze. We’re the only ones in the living room now, Jason disappeared a few minutes ago.
“Alex, what happened?”
He sighs and drops down on the couch and puts his head in his hands, “The other day she told me she loved me. I freaked and didn’t say it back so she left, and things have been weird since then.”
I hold back the accusations I want to make, clearly he’s been beating himself up about this, though I wouldn’t mind doing it some more. After I get my thoughts under control I ask, “Do you love her back?”
He lets out a long sigh, “Yeah, I think so.”
“You think so?”
“No. I do, I just wasn’t ready to tell her.”
“Well, are you ready now?”
He shrugs, “I guess.”
I walk over and hit him on the shoulder, “Then get out of my house and go tell her, stupid.”
“Mik, I-”
“No,” I interrupt, “Go tell her. She’s probably so miserable right now and she probably feels like the biggest idiot in the world. Just explain to her how you feel.”
“I can’t. She probably hates me right now.”
“She doesn’t hate you, Alex. As long as you tell her the truth everything will be fine.”
He looks up at me hopefully, “You think so?”
“Yes, now leave.”
So, he leaves. Hopefully that all works out. I like Alyssa and I think they’re good for each other.
I turn to walk back up the stairs, only to see Tristan standing there smirking. I smile at him, “Did you hear all that?”
“Pretty much.”
I shake my head, “Alex can be really ridiculous sometimes.”
He tilts his head curiously, “Why do you say that?”
I shrug, “He should’ve just told her, you know? Why make her feel bad about her feelings?”
“Maybe he was just caught off guard.” He replies simply.
“Maybe. But, I sent him to tell her so hopefully it works out. We should go study.”
The next few hours find us sitting on my bed cramming information into our brains. It’s about 9:30 when we decide to stop.
“I should leave.”
A feeling of disappointment washes through me, “You can stay. I still have some of your clothes here.”
Tristan hesitates, thinking. Then he leans his forehead against mine and whispers, “Okay, I’ll stay.”
I smile at him happily, I love when he stays over.
“It would be nice if we never had to take another test ever again.” He says next to me, staring at his textbook like it’s a disease.
“Oh c’mon English isn’t that bad.”
He gives me a look of disbelief, “Yes, English is that bad.”
“Stop being such a baby.”
He laughs, “I’m not being a baby.”
“Yes, you are.”
“I’m not having this argument with you, that’s for you and your brothers.”
I stick out my lower lip in a pout, “Fine.”
Tristan doesn’t reply, instead he leans forward and captures my lower lip with his teeth making me gasp. He kisses me hungrily, sticking his tongue in my mouth letting it fight with mine. He shifts until I’m straddling him, my fingers are running through his hair and he has both hands on my waist.
Too soon though he pulls away breathing heavy, “I love you.”
Both of us freeze as those words leave his lips, but he makes no move to deny them. My heart swells when I hear those words. I’m finally able to admit to myself that I love him too. This boy with his green eyes and big heart, who was just a new kid at my school a few months ago.
I realize he’s still waiting for me to say something back. I grin widely at him before whispering, “I love you too.”
***********************
I can’t help but smile as he resumes kissing me, just as hungrily as before but with more emotion. His tongue invades my mouth, not leaving any part unexplored. I can’t get enough of his taste, so I do a little exploring of my own, drawing a groan from his lips which sends a shiver of desire down my spine. His hands on my waist hold me firmly on his lap where I can feel his erection beneath his jeans. I grind my hips on his lightly drawing another groan from him. He then pulls away to push our textbooks off the bed, then pushes me down so I’m lying on my back with him on top. He pulls his lips away from mine only to place kisses on my jaw and neck, leaving burning trails of desire wherever he goes. He backs away long enough to pull my shirt over my head before going back to my neck. He kisses and bites his way down to my stomach, then back up until he gets to my breasts. There he hesitates, he looks at me as if asking for permission before reaching behind me to unclasp my bra and pull it off my shoulders.
His hungry gaze makes me feel exposed but not uncomfortable, “So beautiful,” he whispers and he kisses me again.
His hands trail up my sides before he cups my breast in his hand and rubs his thumb over my nipple making me arch my back and moan into his mouth. I feel him smile against my lips as he continues to tease the sensitive bud with his thumb. He pulls his lips away from mine and kisses his way down my neck again and then down to my breasts where he takes one nipple into his mouth and runs his tongue over it teasingly, making it harder to hold back the loud moans threatening to escape. Then, he switches to the other breast giving it just as much attention. My body is writhing with desire and I have to keep a hand over my mouth to stop the moans.
He runs his hand down my body until he reaches the band of my pants. He looks up at me for permission again, I can’t do or say anything so I just nod. He slowly pulls my pants off my legs, leaving me in just my panties. He sits up on his knees and stares at me in awe, like I’m the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. He makes his way back up to my lips, where he kisses me gently while I feel his other hand slip inside my panties towards my core. He gives me time to stop him, but I’m so blinded by desire I let him keep going. He slips one finger inside me making my buck my hips toward his hand. He pushes his finger farther inside before pulling it back out, he does this slowly but continually. His lips leave mine again down to the sensitive spot on my neck, making me arch my back out of sheer pleasure.
“Tristan,” I moan breathily, unable to say anymore.
Suddenly, two fingers are thrust inside of me now. Harder and faster than before. His weight is resting on his right forearm, but he’s somehow able to reach my breast, teasing the sensitive bud with his fingers, along with the continuous thrusts of his fingers inside me. The pleasure building makes me feel like I’m about to explode.
Finally, my body hits its peak. My inner muscles clench around his fingers making him groan quietly and he kisses me to swallow my cries of ecstasy.
He lets go of me and lies down beside me. Both of us breathing heavy, not speaking.
My eyelids are starting to droop but I don’t want to sleep without returning the favor.
I sit up with the sheet around my chest and reach down to unbuckle his jeans.
“Mik, what’re you doing?” he asks huskily as I peel his jeans off his legs.
I look up and meet his eyes which are dark with desire, “Returning the favor.”
“Mik, you don’t have to. That’s not why I did that.”
“I know,” I say as I pull down his boxers to reveal what’s underneath.
Wow, he’s a lot bigger than I imagined.
I look up over at him, “Impressive,” I say with a wink. He just chuckles but it turns into a hiss as I grasp his long hard length in my hand and begin to stroke him slowly, his breathing ragged and uneven.
He throws his head back and groans loudly when I pick up my pace, running my thumb over the sensitive head.
Suddenly his whole body tenses as he finishes in my hand.
Before I can move, he grabs my face in his hands and kisses me sweetly. “You’re amazing,” He says, “I love you so much.”
I grin at him before saying, “I love you too.”
***********************
The next morning I’m woken up by my alarm clock blaring loudly from my bedside table. I reach over to hit snooze and then lay my face back on my pillow.
But it’s not a pillow.
I mentally freak out for a second before I realize that it’s Tristan’s bare chest. Memories of the night before have me grinning like an idiot. I look down and realize that I’m only in a t-shirt.
I look over at Tristan to see him smiling at me, “Morning, beautiful.”
I can’t help the blush that covers my cheeks, “Morning.”
He runs his thumb across my cheek, “This may sound cliché but, you’re beautiful when you blush.”
His comment only makes me blush more, “We should get ready for school. We’ve got that English test today.”
Soon enough we’re ready to go, Tristan has to leave early to get his brother and sister so I walk him to the door and with a quick kiss as farewell he leaves.
The school day passes by quickly, and the English test is easier than we expected. I’m still in a good mood by the end of the day, especially when I find out that everything worked out between Alex and Alyssa. Unfortunately, Tristan can’t stay with me today. He promised Emma and Connor he would be with them, which doesn’t bother me in the slightest.
I still have a smile on my face when I walk into the house that afternoon, only to have it disappear when I see Jason and Ben standing there with their arms crossed over their chests, trying to look intimidating but for some reason looking nervous.
I give them a curious look, “What’s going on guys?”
Jason gestures to the living room, “Let’s sit.”
I sit on the loveseat while they both sit across from me on the couch.
Jason starts, “So, we know that you and Tristan have been getting a lot closer lately…”
“And we’re fine with that,” Ben continues, “But we want to make sure that you guys are…”
“Being safe,” Jason concludes.
Realization dawns on me, “Oh my God, please tell me you guys aren’t trying to give me ‘The Talk.”
“Yeah I guess you could say that,” Ben says, still looking awkward.
I stand up, we’re not meeting each other’s eyes, “Okay guys, this really isn’t necessary. I’m just gonna go.”
They let me leave and I let out a breath when I make it upstairs without them trying to stop me.
I’m about to head into my room when something down the hall catches my eye. Zach’s bedroom door is halfway open. A small detail, I know, but his door is always shut. Without thinking I walk toward his room, in seconds I’m looking into his room. It’s neat and orderly as always, which is surprising considering he hasn’t been around.
As I look in further I notice a figure in the shadows in the corner. I push the door open a little more to get a better look. When I do that the figure turns and looks straight at me.
It’s Zach. Or what looks like a ghost of Zach. He’s skinnier than he was before, his clothes look like they hang off of him. His hair is long and unkempt. The stubble in his face looks rough and patchy. Lastly his eyes, the once lively blue eyes are bloodshot and sunken.
Suddenly the phrase, ‘If looks could kill’ comes to mind.
Because, what are supposed to be my brother’s eyes, are glaring murderously at me.

(A/N): Hi everyone. I’m really really sorry for the month and a half long wait. School has gotten crazy and I didn’t have time to write. The whole writer’s block thing didn’t help at all. I couldn’t think of anything I wanted to do for this chapter. Again, I’m sorry for the wait. I know that there’s no excuse for the neglect I’ve given to this story.
Anyway, I hope you guys liked it! Let me know, I love to read everyone’s opinions.
Thanks for reading!
