Elly let the name roll around on her mental tongue for a moment, it was different, but oddly enough she liked it. It suited him perfectly, in a way. He was far from the kind of man she was used to in England, it was only right that his name would be as unique as him, right?
Komoui sat the stack of paperwork down on his desk before addressing them again, this time a look of seriousness on his face, “Ms. Howard, are you the daughter of Charles Howard III?”
Elly sat up straight on the couch, “Yes, Sir.” Her answer was meant to reassure Komoui but if anything it seemed to deepen his frown.
“Ms. Howard, I’m sorry to be the one to tell you but circumstances being what they are…” He pushed his glasses further up on the bridge of his nose.
A hollow stone of uncertainty settled in her stomach, “What happened to my father?”
Komoui gave her a sad look, “Do you want it bluntly?”
Uncertainty bloomed into panic, but swallowing the blooming emotion she nodded, not trusting herself to speak. She feared that if she did all she was currently feeling would show.
“He was in a major accident early this afternoon. He died in the explosion.”
Elly stared blankly at the wall behind Komoui’s head, numb from shock. Her father…the man she had come so far to see…after all these years…it hardly seemed fair.
