people say i'm not old enough
to know what love feels like.
fourteen is too young to understand
how to love
truly.
but, god, i do.
i know how it felt to love you
and the pain that came along with it.
and i do know how it felt
to be loved by you
and the effort i had to put into it.
it felt like the sunrise
after what seemed like
a millenia of night,
and yet it was the agony
of suffering through a terrible book.
you were the first
drop of water in a desert
that had never yet seen rain,
but also the ending of
a vacation that hadn't been long enough.
i'm young,
and i do not understand many things.
but love...
i knew love so easily,
it was like the first word i'd ever learned.
and i felt it
like it was the last word i will ever have heard.
