Chapter 34: The Realization

Ryan's POV:

"Where are we going?" Lynsey asked from the passenger seat of my car.

I looked down at out interlocked fingers in the center console quickly before looking back at the road, smiling. "It's a surprise."

Her hand fidgeted in mine as she looked out the window at the blur of green from the trees. "Okay."

A new song came on the radio and Lynsey started mouthing the words to the soft music playing. I took my hand from hers, making her head turn sharply towards me at the loss of connection, and turned up the sound before grabbing her hand again. I looked over and smiled. We stopped at a red light and I looked over at Lynsey once again, who was still mouthing the words to the tune.

"You know you can actually sing right?" I said, "I don't mind."

"Oh no. It's fine. I'd prefer to not make my date's ears bleed." she giggled.

"What? If I remember correctly I've heard a lot of people say you have an amazing voice." I looked at her rosy cheeks, "Please sing for me."

"The light's green." she said, nodding at the windshield.

I looked forward and let off the brake, "Please sing for me." I repeated.

Lynsey sighed, "Fine."

She sang quietly, basically to herself, and only got a little louder when I encouraged her too. Bit by bit, until she was really singing audibly, giggling every once and a while from what I'm guessing was embarrassment. When the song finished she fell back onto her seat and looked up at the ceiling.

"Make my ears bleed my ass." I whispered. Her voice was amazing, it just flowed from her, looking and sounding like it gave her no trouble at all to sound that magnificent. Even the extremely long, extremely high note she sang with ease. She amazes me everyday.

***

"Ryan, we've been driving for like an hour, it's five o'clock." Lynsey looked over at me, her feet now up on the dashboard.

"We are almost there. Patience." I laughed as I looked both ways and took a left.

She threw her head back onto the chair and played with my fingers. Five minutes later we arrived.

"Here we are." I got out of the car and went over to Lynsey's side, opening the door and taking her hand. I locked my car as we began to walk towards the oddly shaped building.

"The Chatterbox?" Lynsey looked over at me with a raised eyebrow.

"Yep. You're going to love it." I told her as we entered.

"Two." I said as the hostess got our menus and led us to our table.

"Your server will be here in a minute." she said and walked away.

Lynsey was looking around the whole room before focusing back to me, "This is so cool."

I laughed, "Worth the drive?"

She nodded, "Totally." Her eyes reared from mine and she looked around a little more.

I shook my head, I knew she'd love this place.

A perky, auburn haired waitress came over to our table and introduced herself as Elaina before asking for our drink orders.

"Two chocolate milkshakes please." I said to our overly smiley waitress.

"Coming right up." Elaina said as she skipped away.

"The milkshakes here are amazing." I said to Lynsey, who had a huge smile on her face.

Her smile widened as she looked into my eyes. I placed my hand on hers across the table and watched as her cheeks flushed pink.

***

"Oh my god!" Lynsey said, "This place is amazing!"

I laughed, "I'm glad you like it."

She took another bite out of her meal and swallowed before speaking again, "How'd you find this place anyways?"

I looked down, "Um... well... a few years ago, my sister and I got lost right around here and she was really hungry; we saw all of the nice cars parked here, you know Ampalas and Roadrunners, all old, nice cars, and decided to go in, my sister liked the shape of the building. We loved it, so I used to take my sister here all the time. This was our favorite restaurant." I looked back up at Lynsey.

"Oh." she said, "I can see why."

"Yeah." I grinned and looked around the room, "Yeah."

***

Lynsey's hand was placed in mine as I drove home and she was fast asleep against the seat. She really is so perfect. I continued to drive and when I pulled into my garage Lynsey's hand moved in mine and she sat up, slipping her warm hand away and rubbing her eyes. She looked over at me and smiled, "Thanks Ryan. That was fun."

I smiled back and she went to get out of the car, so I did the same. I waited for her as she walked slowly over to me and I grabbed her hand again, she opened the door and I flipped on the light as we entered. After putting the leftovers in the fridge, we walked to the stairs and got half way up them when Lynsey's hand grasped the railing tight and she stopped on the step.

I looked back at her, she was bent over and her hand was getting red from holding on so tight, "You okay?"

"Mhm." she hummed as she tried to take another step, but failed.

I stepped back down to the stair she was standing on, "Lynsey?"

"I'm okay. I'm alright." she tried to take another step, but failed yet again, "Gahh..." she took in a deep breath.

"Lynsey, what's going on?" I asked scared.

She continued to look down, "Don't worry, this..." she paused and I saw her jaw clench, "...this happens on occasion."

"What does?" I asked as she tried again to take another step and squeezed my hand tighter.

She mumbled something under her breath before trying again.

"Okay Lyns." I said and moved closer to her, "I've got you." I scooped her up and carried her up the stairs to my bedroom and placed her on my bed.

She fell back, "Thanks."

Her face was reddened with tear stains and her hands clenched to the sheets.

I sat down next to her, "What is going on?"

"My leg, it hurts from time to time, like fire and needles and it's just..." she gripped tighter to the sheets, "it happens."

"What can I do?"

"Move me so I'm sitting with my back against the wall." I did. "Get me an ice pack?"

"Okay." I ran down the stairs and to the kitchen, getting an ice pack as quickly as possible and running back to her.

"Here you go." I handed her the ice pack and she placed it on her lower right leg.

"Anything else?"

"Yeah. Sit here next to me." she said and I did just that.

"Okay." I turned to her.

She placed her hand in mine and intertwined our fingers, smiling at me smally. I smiled back and leaned down, kissing her lips softly before she rested her head against my arm.

From time to time she would squeeze my hand when the pain jolted in her leg and she would seal her eyes, sometimes when it was really bad she would scream. It was so painful to watch, I couldn't imagine enduring it. Within an hour this happened five distinctive times, lasting five to ten minutes. It was so hard to watch her in this much pain, I just wanted to help her but didn't know how.

"Alright." she said, "I think it's okay now." she took the ice pack off of her leg and I brought it down to the freezer and came back up. She was drying off her now, partially wet leg and then turned off the light before getting into the bed with me. "Sorry." she whispered as I pulled her body closer to mine.

"For what?" I asked kissing her forehead.

"For that whole thing." she murmured into my chest, "I ruined the night. I'm sorry."

I pulled her closer to me, "No, it's not like you wanted that to happen, don't be sorry."

She mumbled into my chest, something that I couldn't quite make out before actually speaking for me to hear, "Alright."

She crossed her legs into mine and fell asleep in my arms.

***

I blinked open my eyes and looked down at the dark features of Lynsey's sleeping face. I checked the time 3:06, great. I looked back at Lynsey. Her light pink lips were tightened into a small grin and the darkness shadowed her face, her brown curls were disbanded all over her face, the pillow, and down the back of her neck. Her dainty hands were fallen on my side and on my back, with her silky legs still wrapped with mine. She was no longer wearing her Dance Jacket and laid by me in a sports bra and exercise pants, allowing me to feel her bare abdomen pressed to mine. Her abs are so enhanced that I could actually feel them against my skin. Her eyes were closed gently and she took in breaths through her nose. I gently grazed her back with my hands and watched her shoulder lean forward a little bit. I smiled at the idea of having this beautiful, amazing, perfect girl enclosed in my arms and realised that it is what I want for the rest of my life. I want to wake up with this girl in my arms. This girl who makes me laugh and smile, who has the face of an angel and the body of a goddess. I want to be the reason why this girl laughs and why she smiles. I want to be with her when she falls asleep and wake up with her wrapped closely in my arms. I want to see her smiling face every single day and I want her. I want her so much. The sooner the better. Lynsey Haylee Mason, I want her to be mine. And I'm going to make sure she is.

I hesitantly and slowly brought my arms off of her and unraveled my legs, making my way out of my warm, cozy bed and grabbing my phone I headed out of my bedroom and down the stairs to the family room. I sat down on the couch and pulled up a group message for me, Daniel, and Aaron. I typed, I'm doing it today. I'm going to need your help though.

Aaron texted back first Finally. How about we meet at mine in 15?

Daniel replied seconds later, Yeah, finally is right. But why not mine?

Uh... cause Payton is there and she's Lynsey's best friend. If she finds out before it happens, so will Lynsey. Aaron had a point.

Okay. Aaron's in 15 then.

I locked my phone and went upstairs, grabbing the first t-shirt I saw and my keys before strolling out the door, locking it, and walking to my Mustang. I started it up and made my way to Aaron's.

I walked in the door and went down to the basement. "Hey."

"Hey. Daniel's here he's just..." Aaron began to say.

"Let me guess..." I interrupted, "... the kitchen."

"You got it."

I laughed and sat down on the couch.

"So you're finally going to do it." Aaron said, chuckling to himself.

I smiled, "Yeah."

"What made you come to your senses?" Aaron asked.

I rubbed the back of my neck, "Well when I woke up this morning with her in..."

"Hey! There he is!" Daniel said walking down the stairs.

"Shh..." Aaron hushed him, "Parents sleeping."

"Right." Daniel whispered.

"So how are we going to do this?" Daniel added.

Aaron got out a whiteboard and marker. "Let's write down things we know she loves?"

I nodded, "Sounds good."

***

"Alright, now that we have a plan, who wants to go shopping?" I asked, clasping my hands together.

No one spoke.

"Okay. All of us then." I said and we walked out to go to store at 4 in the morning.

***

"Do we have everything?" Aaron asked after we finally found the rose petals after like 20 minutes. Yes, the cliche rose petals.

"I think." Daniel said reading over the list.

Aaron sighed, "Finally. To check out." He pushed the cart and we bought our items and packed them into the car. This is going to be great.

We headed back to Aaron's and started making everything, it took a while, but we finally got it done. It was 6:19 and we decided to head back to my house to set up certain things in my house before moving on. I really hope she likes it.
