The next day I spent the morning getting some more stuff packed, until I got a call from Mason. Apparently there was some type of rat attack at the high school so I was told to meet them in the tunnels.

I got out of my car and saw Liam and Mason waiting.

"Hey." I said.

"Let's go." Liam said and we walked to the entrance of the tunnels and went down.

I grabbed out my phone, turning on my flashlight as the boys grabbed out their flashlights.

"You know, it's not as irrational as you think." Mason said. "There's actually an evolutionary advantage of having an innate fear of spiders, snakes and rats."

"How do you know they came from here?" I asked.

"Well they came clawing through the vents, and those pipes lead directly down here."

"What is that?" Liam asked, stepping closer to a group of dead rats on the ground.

"Oh my god." I said and covered my mouth.

"It's a rat king."

"As if I didn't hate rodents enough." I stepped back.

"We need Malia." Mason said.

"I'll call her." I said and clicked on her number.

"Hello?" She asked.

"We need you down in the tunnels." I said.

"Be there in a minute."

She hung up and we waited for her to show up. Once she did we walked over to the rats.

"You've got two minutes." She told us.

"What do you think happened?" Liam asked.

Malia leaned down.

"Rats freaked out, crawled all over each other. Got their tails knotted up. And tore each other apart trying to get out." She said and pulled one out.

"You read up on rat kings?" Mason asked.

"What's a rat king?" Malia asked, holding the rat up. She took a smell and swung it over to Liam and as we backed up.

"Ew, ew, ew." I said, holding my brother's arm.

"Oh! I'm good. Thank you." Liam said.

Mason stepped back even further, "Yep. I'm. I'm good just over here."

"Can you smell it? It's fear." Malia said.

Liam pushed her hand down to drop the rat.

"Yeah it's the same as the ones in the math classroom."

"Why were there rats in a classroom?" Malia asked.

"They ran in during second period, uh, about fifty of them."

"Your two minutes are up."

"Where are you going?"

"Paris, this isn't my problem." Malia said.

"Me too." I said and began following her. "As much as I'd like to help I really have to start focusing on Princeton."

"Blaire!" Liam said. "Come on!"

"Sorry, you wanted to be the new Alpha." I shrugged and began walking back .

"We need to get to the hospital." I heard Liam say.

I shook my head.

I arrived back at my car and went straight to a thai take out place in town. I got some food then went to the hospital. I saw my brother and Mason with Melissa.

"Oh my gosh. You two brought me dinner?" She asked them.

"No. It's not dinner." Mason said.

"It's not dinner?" She looked inside then exhaled. "It's definetly not dinner."

"We were hoping you could take a look at it for us." Liam said.

"Well, I was hoping that someone was going to bring me dinner." Melissa said.

"And that." I said. "Is why I am here."

"You brought me dinner?" She asked.

I smiled and handed her the bag of thai take out.

"You're the best."

"Anyway, right now is not the time for a rat autopsy. So get this and yourselves out of here. Except you Bliare, because you love me and brought me food." She said.

Melissa walk around the counter and set the food down as I walked with Mason and Liam.

"It's just some dead rats." I said. "I see nothing supernatural about this."

"How do you explain it then?" Mason asked.

I shrugged, "Not my problem."

That's when two men behind us started fighting.

"Can I get security over here?" Melissa yelled.

"Sir you need to calm-" Liam said, interrupting but the man punched him.

"What the hell is wrong with you!?" I yelled, shoving the guy.

That's when I heard Liam's growl, his beta eyes showed and his fangs hung out.

Mason and I shared a look as I ran over. Security pulled the men apart as I pulled Liam through the hospital to the elevator.

"Say it Liam." I whispered. "The sun, the moon, the truth."

He took a breath in as we ran.

"The sun, the moon, the truth." He repeated as we got to the elevator.

He pushed the button really fast.

"Breathe." I said.

He took a deap breath.

"The sun." We said in sync. "The moon. The truth."

He leaned back as he calmed down.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

He nodded.

"Here." I said and grabbed a napkin from my purse, handing it to him.

"I'm sorry Blaire." He said.

I smiled as I placed my hand on his cheek.

------------

I sat in the backseat of stiles' old jeep with Lydia and Scott. Lydia had gone to pick Scott up , but had a banshee moment and saw something. We pulled up to Lydia's house, where Malia was.

"Come on." Scott said as we all got out. We walked up the stairs to find Malia in the bedroom.

Malia grabbed her bag and turned to see the three of us at the door.

"No! No. No. No. No. No. No." She said. "It's just rats. Rats and wolves. And maybe a little bug problem."

"We need you." Lydia said.

"And I need Paris." Malia replied.

"Paris has been around for two thousand years. It's not going anywhere." Lydia said.

Malia walked over to the window and opened it.

"Malia." Scott said.

"Liam and Mason called." Lydia said.

"Yeah. They've got it covered."

"Well actually." I said.

Scott shot me a look.

"We can't make you stay, and I don't wanna try. But we were hopping that maybe you would want to." He said.

"well I don't." Malia said.

"Okay." He said and stepped out of the way.

I did the same as Malia walked over. Lydia blocked her path as Scott and I pulled her.

We all exchanged looks. Until Malia's bag flew back into the room at Scott. She stepped back in.

"What are we supposed to do?" She asked.

"Find a hellhound."

-----------------

Malia and I sat in the backseat of the jeep.

"We opened a door to another world." Lydia said from the passenger seat. "And something came out with us. Now we need the hellhound to stop it."

"So we put it back, we've put things back before." Malia said.

Lydia and Scott shared a look.

"What?" I asked.

"Why are you two looking at each other like there's something you know that we don't know?" Malia asked.

"It might not be that simple." Scott said.

"We save Stiles, we brought everyone back, but that's not the way it's supposed to happen. There is always a price to pay."

"We learned that from the Nemeton."

"What kind of price?" Malia asked.

"A big one?" I asked.

Lydia looked back at us, "Big."

Scott pulled up to the high school and we all climbed out.

"Okay, we should move pretty quickly." Scott said.

"Okay, stop." I said.

"Do we even know what we let out?" Malia asked.

"This hellhound might be the only one who does. " Scott said.

We heard growling in the distance and all took off running. There was a gun shot and it fell silent as we approached. On the ground laid the hellhound we needed.

"I thought you couldn't kill a hellhound." Lydia said.

Scoot leaned down and grabbed something. He picked up a bullet and turned it in his hand.

"Argent." He said.

 "Then it's true." Lydia said.

"What? What is true?" I asked.

"What else did you hear?" Malia asked.

"The sound of people who've never lifted a hand against another human being."

"Something was killing them?" Scott asked.

"They were killing each other." Lydia replied.

------------------

We sat on Scott's bed. Scott with his phone in hand.

"In case anyone forgot...." Lydia said. "Yeah, I just said 'forgot'. We almost lost him last time."

"If this turns out to be something big and we don't call him..." Malia said.

"He would kill us." Scott finished.

"Or maybe we should go back to the woods and find the killer. " I suggested.

"Scott?" Lydia asked.

"You guys didn't hear his voice. He sounded really excited to be there. "

"Just play the voicemail." Malia said.

Scott pressed play and Stiles' voice rang through the air.

"Hey Scott. So I'm here. I'm in Quantico, Virginia. At the FBI. I'm at the freaking FBI. It's real. I'm really here." He said. "Uh I kinda told Lydia that I miss her and I can't wait to go home, but..."

I smiled as I touched Lydia's arm.

"Listen, Scott whatever you're doing right now. Just make sure you're still getting out of Beacon Hills. All of you. I mean maybe you think you can't leave you know, like the whole things falls apart if you're not there. Which I get but you have to. I know you're supposed to drive out tonight, so if you don't call me back, just promise me you're actually going. Just get in the jeep and go."

I leaned my head on Lydia's shoulder. She leaned hers on top of my head.

"He sounds so happy." I smiled.

"He does." Lydia smiled.
