I stood there, looking right at him.

He stood there, looking right back at me.

It was like the whole world stopped and we were the only ones that mattered. Looking into his eyes, it was as if everything faded. And at that moment, nothing mattered except him. The way his eyes were a darker green than usual, I could tell that he felt the same way. Suddenly, at that moment, all the memories came flooding back. All the memories that I spent years trying to forget, all came back faster than the speed of lightning. I couldn't breath anymore, or at least that's what it felt like. The atmosphere felt thick, so thick that you could cut it with a knife.

I have to get out of here before I lose it.

Before he even had the chance to say anything, I closed the curtains to the window and ran down the stairs. When I reached the bottom, I just stood there. What just happened? As my heart was still beating faster than a drum, my mother walked through the door.

Aware that my face was pale as paper, and I probably had an expression as if I had just seen a ghost, I prayed to the Gods that she wouldn't notice. But of course, when was I ever able to get anything past her without her noticing.

One look at me and she was already at my side, bombarding me with questions.

"Chris, what happened?" she asked.

"Nothing mom," I answered, attempting to smile. But we both knew I wasn't fooling anyone.

"Oh honey, are you sure you don't want to talk about it?" she asked, her tone sincere.

"Yes mum, I'm just a bit tired is all." I replied.

"Okay, my love." she said. "Dinner will be ready in about an hour."

And with that, she sauntered off to the kitchen, while humming along to a tune. I wish I was so carefree right now. I went in after her and sat down at the table.

"So mum, how was work?"

"It was...bearable," she said with a laugh. "Some clients like to put up a fight but it's nothing this lady here can't handle."

"I'm glad it was good, mum." I replied with a smile.

We were seated at the dinner table, while enjoying the delicious lasagna and just talking about random things. With my mom, I feel like I could tell her anything and she wouldn't judge me about it, or yell at me and get irrational. She wasn't just my mom; she was also my best friend.

Instead of being 'daddy's little girl' like he had hope I would be, I was always more close with my mom than with him.

"So I see we got some new neighbors," she said.

I paused mid-bite and tried to act as nonchalant as I could be. I couldn't let her see that that I was affected by it.

"Yeah, mum. When I got home I saw the moving truck." I replied

"I wonder who they are...," she thought out loud.

"Yeah...I wonder too...," I replied. But of course I already knew who it was. And the fact that he was back, I couldn't help but feel as if it would change everything.

No, nothing would change at all. Its been 6 years since we last saw each other, how could things possible change?

When I looked back up to my mother, I found that she was already staring at me intently. Oh man, I was surely caught.

"Yes, mum? I asked as calmly as possible.

"I asked if you were okay, you zoned out for quite a while, dear." she asked with concern lacing her voice.

"Oh yeah, I'm perfectly fine, mum," I said. "I just have a lot on my mind." How was I managing to stay so calm despite the tornado inside of me?

"Oh, and mum?"

"Yes, dear?"

"Jasmine is coming over at 7, is that okay?"

"Yes, that's perfectly fine!"

We both got up and put our dishes in the sink. I went over to the living room and waited until Jasmine got here. About 15 minutes later, I heard a car pull up in the driveway and went outside to greet her.

"Hey girl! Its been awhile!" she said.

"Jaz, we just saw each other earlier today." I laughed.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, same difference." she said while sticking her tongue out.

We made our way back inside the house and grabbed some ice cream before heading up to my room. Girl time was very much needed.

"Sooo, anything new with you?" she asked while taking a bite out of her ice cream.

"Eh, not really..." I said.

"Okay, yeah, sure. Of course there's nothing going on." she said, sarcasm dripping from her words.

"I'm serious! There's nothing going on." I defended.

"Chris, as your best friend since birth, I know that when you start to look anywhere but one place and your leg won't stop bouncing, I know you're lying." she explained.

Well damn, the girl's analyzing, I'll give her that.

"So spill the beans, girl." she said, while shooting me a look that said "now, or else".

"Okay, okay, fine," I shot her a look while putting my hands up in surrender.

"I really don't know how to say this-" I was cut off by a very pissed off Jasmine.

"JUST SAY IT ALREADY!" she yelled.

"Jeez woman, at this rate I'll be needing a hearing aid." I said seriously.

"Chris." she said in a warning tone.

"Jaz...Blake is back." I said trying not to let any emotion show.

"Woah, wait, hold up. Blake? Blake as in Blake Thompson? Blake as in your childhood best friend?" she asked, with shock written all over her face.

"The one and only," I said with a sigh. "and even though its been 6 years, I can't help but feel that with him here again...all those feelings I had for him, will just come back."

"Well, what would be so bad about letting your feelings out?" she asked.

"I don't know Jaz, I just don't know." I looked down, forcing the tears to stay at bay.

"Oh Chris, I'm so sorry. I know that with him here, you think that things may change and all, and maybe all the feelings you've suppressed through all these years will come back again. But if you don't take the risk, you'll never know what might've been. A life without risks, isn't a life at all."

"Thank you, Jaz. You always know the right things to say." I said and wiped away some of the tears that dared to fall. She leaned out to give me a hug and after I was sure that I wouldn't cry anymore, we pulled away and continued to eat our ice cream.

After a few minutes of just quiet, my mom opened the door a little and walked in to ask us about any juicy info. My mom was an adult, but she could totally pass off as a teen school girl. After Jasmine finished sharing a story about a guy asking her out on a date, and then realizing that it was all a dare, lets just say the guy wasn't able to feel his family jewels for a while. Mum laughed at that one. Then, she turned to me.

Uh-oh.

"So, honey, what about you? Anything going on with you? Any boys?" she asked with a knowing smirk.

She couldn't possibly know about Blake. Could she? Of course not.

I shot a look at Jasmine out of the corner of my eye, silently begging her not to say anything about Blake.

"No, mum. No boys and not anything really exciting happened this week." I said.

"Oh what a shame, what a shame," she dramatically out her hand on her forehead.

We rolled our eyes but couldn't help but giggle at her childish ways. After a few more funny stories, my mum excused herself to go get ready for bed.

"Are you staying over?" I asked Jaz.

"I wish I could Chris, but mom is gonna kill me if I come home after 9:30." she said.

"No, no, don't be silly. Its totally cool." I said.

We walked down the stairs and through the hall. I instantly regretted not bringing a jacket when I walked through the door. Even though it was only the beginning of October, it was already becoming colder as the days pass by.

After we said goodnight, I went back inside and straight up to my room. I took a shower and got into my pj's before getting under the covers. Memories from years ago were occupying my thoughts and I couldn't help but think about Blake...again. Ever since I found out that he was back, he was the only thing I could think about.

Thinking about Blake once more, I drifted off to one of the most peaceful sleeps I've had in a while.
