ONE YEAR LATER

The leaves outside were turning into that beautiful coating of orange, red, and yellow that was so mesmerizingly perfect from each angle. Currently I was watching them from above, looking outside the windows of our apartment and over Central Park. I still hadn't gotten used to the change of season here, but it was a wonderful kind of awe that I felt whenever the weather changed and the air spiked.

I was sitting in one of his thick t-shirts, and it fit me like a short, revealing dress. He was asleep in our bed still, but I had already awoken and brewed myself a cup of coffee. The change into autumn had caused me to awaken earlier for weeks now, just to watch the sunlight change over the leaves.

"Ah!" I gasped in shock, the coffee in my mug sloshing around so that it spilled onto my hands. Luckily it was warm, not blazingly hot, so I wasn't forced to glare at him.

He gave me a lovely, toothy grin that instantly melted my heart, much faster than I had hoped for. Then his lips landed on my cheek, completely softening me.

"I could've ruined your nice t-shirt," I said. "I was so concentrated you scared the life out of me."

He shrugged, sitting beside me on the couch. His legs locked around me, and I rested my back against his chest. "I have a thousand others."

I had to roll my eyes this time. "Spoiled little billionaire."

His laugh next to my ear sent pleasant shivers down my spine. "Am I going to be missing my wife again today? Or will the recording studio leave you alone for my sake?"

I rested my free hand against his knee, then traveled down the side of his leg. "I'm here all day today. Completely yours." It was unbelievable that I was already warming in response to my husband and his body, wanting him all around me. I had had him just last night, and without any barriers between our skin. After all those reckless times without precaution I had quickly gotten myself on the pill.

"I'm glad to hear that," he murmured, hugging me to him. I shared my coffee with him, then we put together a simple breakfast of eggs and toast.

We had the day completely to ourselves since I hadn't gone in to record on my first album, and he had taken the day off to work from home.

It was after we had made love that night, and bathed together with two glasses of wine, that I let my words run free.

"Emmett, do you ever wonder what would have happened if we'd have gotten pregnant those times?"

His green eyes came to mine, and he set the wine glass on the marble beside him. "Yes, I had."

"And?"

"I don't know," he said, taking my leg from underneath the water until he softly caught my toes. "It made me all mushy inside."

I threw my head back laughing, only to come back up with a smile so wide it hurt my face.

"I'm so glad! I felt the same way, but I knew it wasn't the right time."

"What about now?" He questioned. "Is now the right time?"

"I don't know. I don't think so. I want to finish the album, and I want to be alone with you a little while longer. Is that selfish?" I asked him, searching for his hand.

He caught me looking for him, and he gave me his palm side up. I placed my hand over it, amazed at how small it was compared to his. It made me feel safe and warm, everywhere around me.

"No," he said. "I want you for myself for longer, just the same. But I would like to, Julianne. I want a family with you."

"Oh god, me too. So much."

"Then we'll make one. A bigger one. Right now you can focus on your music. When you tell me you're ready I'll be here, more than eager to please."

That did it for me. I moved in the bath tub and went straight for his mouth, kissing him until I was drunk from the wine on his lips, until I was crazy all over again with want for him, until I forgot where he began and where I ended, until he was dragging me out of the tub and drying my body, taking me to our bed.

Something about Emmett drove me wild, and I knew that it would never change.
