"What are you doing Everest? You're going to get us caught!" She abruptly said to me in a louder tone than what was expected. I sat upon the wall that had divided us from the outside world. You may be asking; "What do you mean Everest?" "What outside world?" Let me tell you this; we're separated from our own reality.

"Lyre be quiet! You're the one who's going to get us caught!" I quietly snapped back at her and at that moment, I knew I was going to regret it. I stretched my arm out for her to grab so I could pull her up onto the wall with me. It took a lot of effort to come up here, climbing up onto the roof and jumping from tree to tree just to not be seen. Long story short; we're not supposed to cross over the wall. The penalty is something as great as death.

"Everest, this isn't safe. We're going to get caught-" She was going to continue on and on about how much we'd get in trouble if I didn't cut her off with my sigh and the rolling of my eyes. This happens every single time. She babbles on how we'd get in trouble, goes on and on about how we'd get caught by the guards or our parents. I have to shut her up every single time.

"Lyre, you worry too much. We'll be fine, I promise." Again, I rolled my eyes and spoke with annoyance in my tone. Though I wasn't facing her this time so it's almost as if the tone never existed since you know, I was muffled by my own body.

"But what if we're not. What if the officers are out patrolling for those who may be wandering?" She said starting to get a little bit panicked, the look in her dark blue eyes was pure fear. Again; don't worry. She's like this all the time. Though I guess, this time isn't like the others.

"We'll run until we can't anymore. Lyre, this is our plan. We must go through with it." I gave her a sincere and serious look, a look that apparently convinced her to follow through with the plan. Though she said nothing as I was pulling her up fully to sit on the wall with me, there was still fear in her eyes.

"Lyre...-" I went to speak as I climbed over the other side of the wall. She cut me off with a stern and tense voice, but yet it was still in a quiet enough to be considered a whisper.

"No Everest. I'm fine. This is a plan we've had for months, for years. We have to go through with it. We have to find our freedom." She said with a positive outlook full of determination as she hopped over the wall to meet me on the other side.

We silently moved between houses; seeing new things we've never seen before. We're not supposed to leave the yard unless it's for school. Continuing to move as the police patrolled the streets, shining there lights into every yard, we were sure we would get caught. The anxiety rushed through our blood like fire. Every time a light shone our way both of us fell into a silence and froze like statues. Eventually we got to the way out. At that moment, reaching for the lock on the back exit, the light shone onto us like beams of sunlight.

"Everest there is no way out!" she said trying to look for an exit to run. I turned my head and saw that the police were coming straight at us.

"Lyre! Look out!" I yelled as one of the patrols shot at her. As I jumped in front of her, trying to block the bullet, something  weird happened. A greenish, blueish bubble formed around us, like a shield. The bullet disintegrated as soon as it had impact on the bubble. I was shocked, confused even.

"Everest... H-how.. ?" She was shocked, but confused; just as much as me. Not scared, but interested. Her eyes had a glowing tint to them, something I never saw before. They were enticing to look at. Then they sparkled and faded back to their normal colour. The doors had opened. We were confused on who opened it. I looked at her and she looked at me. Neither of us did it. Alarms and sirens began to sound.

"Go Lyre! I'll be right there!" I yelled to her over the sirens and alarms. I wanted to try to create the bubble again. I focused really hard on trying to attempt it, but failed. I could feel Lyre pushed up against the iron fencing on the outside, not to be seen by the guards. Suddenly, I stopped everything. Everything had froze except Lyre and I.

"That's not that I was trying to do!!" I got frustrated at myself and time began again. Focusing again, I tried to form the weird bubble. Nothing. Trying harder, still nothing. When I was about to give up, the bubble slowly expanded around me, but wasn't enough to protect me. It was the size of my abdomen.

I closed my eyes again and tried harder to expand it. Sure enough, it finally worked. The bubble trembled a bit, realizing that my arm shook at the same time. Does it follow my movements? Testing my theory, I threw my arm out in front of me. The bubble projected itself forward. Hitting the patrols with a wave of force -like waves of sound- and knocking them to the ground.

"Everest! Let's go!!!" She yelled at me as I was still in shock on what I've done. I eventually came back to reality and bolted out of the doors, running to where she was. We each grabbed the duffel bags that we threw over the fence beforehand. While kneeling down to grab my bag, I heard the doors slam. The concrete doors closed hard and it echoed through the entire city. They were bound to come after us now.

"Do you have everything you need Lyre? Because there's no going back now." I asked her while regaining my breath.

"Yeah, I made sure of it." She said confidently.

"Good."  I sighed out as I threw my bag over my shoulder.

She stayed quiet for a minute, looking back at our home and the small glowing light at the front, realizing that we caused a small fire. Did I do that?

"E-Everest!" She tugged at my arm "L-Look!" She pointed at the entrance where the weird colored glow got bigger.

"Run Lyre, Run!" I said as I pulled on her arm making her stumble and break eye contact with the glowing turquoise flame at the front gate. Did I really do that??

We ran far. Further than I ever thought we could go. Running through bushes and trees, getting scraped by the branches as we went. Eventually we found a opening with a small river. It was so far away from the suburb that we couldn't even see smoke from the fire. Lyre started setting up a tent, but I shook my head at her and just said to take out her sleeping bag. She did as she was told, which was highly unlikely for her. Lyre usually never listened to others because she usually entitled to her own opinions.

I mean, I can't blame her. She's really smart and wise. Supposedly now I'm magical and powerful for some reason. We set up a small portable fire. Yes there is portable fire, it's the future. I made it small enough so the smoke wouldn't be noticeable. Eventually, I curled up into my sleeping bag as I rest awake until who knows what time.

I just need time to process what happened tonight. We escaped using... my magic..?  Lyre was fast asleep, at least so I thought. I felt myself starting to doze off when all of a sudden something hits me in the head. Sitting up, I looked around. Seeing Lyre doing weird motions with her hands.

"What are you doing?" I asked, rubbing the soon to be bump on my head.

"Sorry Everest!" She says as she quietly laughs.

I rolled my eyes. "Lyre, what are you doing?"

She looked around, after a bit, she spoke. "Practicing my powers.." She said with an unsure tone.

"Wait, you have powers? Since when?" I asked her slightly confused. I somehow thought I was the only one who was "gifted". But I guess having a sister with powers is cool too. We'll be unstoppable.

She closed her eyes. Then it hit me. LITERALLY. She made my pillow hit my head.

"Figure it out yet?" She asked with a smirk across her face.

I rolled my eyes and chuckled softly. "Yeah, I did. The power to abuse me!" I said playfully as I threw the pillow back at her.

She caught it and laughed, then fell back on her sleeping bag, staring up at the sky. I looked over at her, then looked up at the moon.

"What do you think about all this, Everest?" She said to me as she rolled on her side to face me.

I cleared my throat, but then fell silent for a second.

"I think this is all pretty confusing." I paused. "We have these "magical powers", and escaped a prison city that we called home." But Lyre didn't reply. I looked over at her to find her asleep. I sighed and laughed softly. I stared up at the night sky to find myself alone with the moon and the stars. The soft clouds and the breeze. God how it felt nice to be free.

I quietly said again, "We're finally free" in my mind once more. I shut my eyes to only find the night replaying in my mind again and again. Then finding myself slowly falling asleep.
