The Water Is Freezing!

(Nine years later)

I growled. "Mom! You shouldn't have done that! The water is freezing!" I shrieked.

My mom decided it was okay to grab a bucket of ice cold water and throw it on me while I was still sleeping. It was one of the methods my mom used to wake me up in the damn morning.

I hated it.

Sleeping shouldn't be illegal!

"Sorry, Iz. But you seriously need to learn how to wake up. I can't keep doing this all the time, you know." My mom rolled her eyes. "I'm getting old."

"Well then don't do it!" I said, groaning. The water was freezing cold. "I don't think daddy will like this." I said sadly. "My bed is all wet. And I won't be able to sleep." I pouted.

Mom's eyes narrowed at me. "Because you won't sleep! Get your lazy booty up! It's time to go to school. I will not let you miss again."

I pouted. "B-but I don't want to go!"

"I don't care. Get dressed. Aunt Vee is going to take you. I have to go with daddy to do some business somewhere." My moms eyes suddenly turned worried but then it was gone in a flash.

"Can I come with?" I said looking up at her under my lashes. It was such an adorable face. Every time I used it on my dad, he'd crumble and would always agree with me.

"No. You can't. Now hurry up! Vee is going to come any second and I know you'll want to see Rick." She wiggled her eyebrows and I just shook my head.

"Mom, Rick is like a brother!" I made a face. "That's just nasty."

What's nasty? Stark's voice entered my head.

Mom wants me to go out with my aunts son, and he's like a brother to me and that's just nasty.

Stark laughed. That IS seriously nasty.

I know right. Totally.

"Baby, are you okay?" My mom looked at me worriedly.

I had been staring at the wall, smiling and focusing on nothing, but Stark in my head. I totally forgot how it looked like if someone were looking at me.

I looked at my window guiltily. I had never told my mom about Stark. Because I didn't want her to take him away from me. Even if he was only in my head. I couldn't let anyone take him away from me. It sounded really stupid. And it made me look mental. But Stark was such a big part of me. If I lost him... it would be like losing a huge part of myself. I have had him for so long. I've never been truly alone with him in my head. I don't want anyone to ever take him away from me. He is just such a vital part in my life.

"Sorry mom. You know sometimes I just focus on random things." I lied.

"Okay." My moms voice still held concern but she nodded. "Get dressed. Vee will be here in ten minutes."

I nodded and when she left my room I went into my walk-in closet. I had a dark sense of style. I grabbed black skinny jeans, a black tank top and over it a black  blouse. I grabbed black converse and a black scarf. After I was done changing I went to my mirror and I grabbed my brush. My hair was always amazingly soft. It was one of traits I had gotten from my dad.

Is everything okay, Iz? Stark asked me, voice concerned.

I'm fine, Stark.

After I finished I put on black mascara which made my black eyes shine weirdly. When I finished I looked into my mirror. I looked good. I totally looked like Patch Cipriano's daughter. But I looked more like him than I looked like my mom. It was weird. It was like I was more my dads daughter than my moms.

I shrugged and I grabbed my black leather bag. I grabbed my iPhone, headphones and charger.

So what are you doing? I asked him while I went downstairs. I saw a double chocolate muffin and I mentally danced.

Nothing. Just hanging out. I have a few minutes till I got school.

School!? I sputtered. You never told me you went to school! Stark, I feel betrayed!

He sighed. Iz, calm down. I hadn't told you because I hadn't known myself. I got the schools letter and it said I was going to school or else.

Still. You waited this long to tell me? I was hurt. But of course it was stupid but I didn't want Stark knowing how much this hurt me. In our heads we could block things that we don't want the other to see. He could literally read my mind, and if I didn't want him to know what was going through my mind, I would just throw up a wall. So that's what I did.

I'm sorry, Iz. Seriously I am. But you were sleeping. And I know you would mentally kill me a thousand times, if I woke you up.

Hmm... Very very true, alright I forgive you.

Thank the lords! I wouldn't know what I would do if you didn't.

Mr. Stupid. Were you just using sarcasm on me? I said, glowering playfully.

Ms. Jerk. Maybe I was. He said. I knew he was laughing.

Mr. Asshole. I will see to it for you to get slapped.

Ha literally just burst out laughing. That was hilarious Iz! Mr. Asshole. Ah. Oh my chocolate cake. I have no idea how you have those comebacks.

I have a very imaginative mind, Stark. I said proudly.

Right.

A knock on the door brought me back to the real world. I walked to the door and when I opened I saw Rick's tall body and then his brown eyes. He smiled. "It's time to go, Iz."

I nodded and I went back to the kitchen island and grabbed another chocolate muffin. "No, I will not ask you if you want one, Rick. These are mine." I said, grinning.

He chuckled. "I will probably leave this house with a black eye, a bruised wrist, and a broken arm, if I took one of your muffins."

"Damn right." I walked out of the flat and into the London streets. I was born in the United States but my mother decided she wanted to be close to Vee and we moved to London when I was 3. I was 17 now. And my father decided, though reluctantly, that I could go back to Maine and stay with my grandma for the rest of high school.

I was very excited about that. I was going to Maine! The place where my father and mother met.

Rick suddenly grabbed me by the elbow. "Iz... Have your parents talked to you?"

The hell was this kid doing. Last time someone randomly grabbed me they got a punch in the face.

I looked at his arm with a raised eyebrow and then at home. He quickly took his hand away. I furrowed my eyebrows. "I always talk to them, Rick. "

He sighed and he let go of me. "Your parents haven't told you." He said. "I wonder if they ever plan on telling you." He muttered mostly to himself.

"What the hell are you talking about Rick. Tell me!" I literally shouted and I didn't care who looked at me like I was crazy for yelling in public.

I mean, this is me. I slept on the bus. Yes, on the freaking bus. Crazy right?

He pressed his eye with the pad of his finger. "Iz, you and me aren't normal." He started. "Do you know why you're tall? Taller than almost most girls in school?" I nodded. "Well, because we are like them. Yet not all the way. It's hard to explain. And I seriously think you should wait until your own parents tell you what's up. My mom told me just two days ago. She was freaked out but when she told me, I realized that it was true. I am not like everyone else." He paused. "And neither are you."

I clenched my hands into fists. How could my parents keep something from me? Then I shut up. It wasn't like I had the right to talk since I was hiding Stark from them. I looked at Rick's concerned face. "Thanks for telling me, Rick." Then I paused. "Is there a name for whatever we are?"

Rick looked around and then getting close to me. It was as if he was afraid someone would hear him. "Nephilim." He whispered like it was a secret. "Don't let anyone hear, Iz. Don't tell anyone. Promise me."

I nodded. My promises meant a lot. If I couldn't tell anyone... then I couldn't tell Stark. I would have to build up a wall around that thought. Anything that has to do with Nephilim... I had to hide from him.

Hey, Iz. At school yet? Stark asked. He was concerned. He had noticed the huge wall I put up but he didn't ask anything.

No. I'm on my way. I said. Even in my head, my voice sounded small. I was lying to him. And I have never lied to him. Ever.

Alright. Well, I have school so I'll talk to you later, Iz. He said softly.

I sighed. Later, Stark.

Rick and I walked to school.

As we entered everyone turned to look at us. Blonde heads were everywhere and it didn't help that I was one of the few American girls with black hair.

I was like a Twinkie in a tank full of starved people.

Literally.

A few girls came up to me and told me about all the recent gossip. A girl got pregnant, a guy who knew a guy was killed.

I know right. Weird.

I saw my best friend and I departed from my other friends.

My best friend and I have been friends since the end of time.

She had these crazy theories.

Like we're really soul mates who are destined for each other. Weird right! My personal favorite is, when the earth was being created our 'particles' were right next to each other and then sadly we got separated. And as millions of years passed, we found each other when we were five. And since then we've been best friends.

She's a ball of craziness.
