{Madeline's POV}
I glared at him from across the room. I had been here for a few days and I have dreaded every moment of it. I had no friends. Nothing to do, and Ryker dragged me to all his meetings. Even made me get up at the crack of dawn like he does. I guess I'd be lying if I say I wanted to leave him, but doing nothing and being commanded around didn't settle with me.
"You know they say if your face sits like that for too long, it'll stick." Ryker said not looking up from his papers.
"I've sat in this damn office for hours watching you do paper work." I said annoyed and he sighed looking up at me.
"Then go explore the pack?" He said and I sat up curiously.
"Really?" I asked and he laughed.
"Im just shitting with you. Im almost done. Can you not wait?" He asked and I growled.
"Ill do anything but this. This is boring, okay? B to the ... oring..." I didn't think that as through as I should have. He looked at me with an annoyed look and finally stood from his desk.
"Do you know how to fight?" He asked taking off the jacket of his suit and my eyes widened.
"No?" He smirked. "Good." he rolled the sleeves of his button up to his elbows and started walking towards the doors to his office. "Well? Come on!" He said and I groaned.
"This is not what I wanted to do." I followed him out the door and downstairs.
"You said anything? You brought this upon yourself." As he walked I saw a girl grin at him as she walked by with a wink. My expression furrowed. The satisfied look on her face when she did sent me into a frenzy and I gasped.
"You slept with her?!" I said and he turned looking at me.
"No, she simply showed up in my room nearly naked. It could have led to something else, but I was having a bad day." I don't even want to think about his good days.
"Besides, why do you think I lock the floor to my room now? It's shit like that." He grumbled.
"I thought you worshiped this? You know... they women falling at your feet; the pampering?" He shrugged.
"Yeah, it was nice and all, but sometimes it was too much. Annoying even. It's not attractive when a woman throws herself at you. I would lie if I say I had never accepted one's invitation, but no, I do not worship it." I was surprised to say the least.
We showed up in front of a door and he pushed it open and I seen a gym. You've got to be kidding me.
"Im going to be training you from now on." he said and I raised an eyebrow as we walked in.
"Why?" He laughed.
"Have you not looked around and noticed the war that was declared? If you want me to trust you in going places without me, this is how. It will give me a sort of peace to know you can defend yourself." I looked down at my attire.
I was wearing sweatpants and a tank top. My things were shipped in today, thankfully. I looked Ryker up and down.
"You're not dressed properly. Looks like we can't." I said with fake sadness.
"Ill be fine." He smirked and I growled.

"OW!" I groaned as I was flipped on my back once more. Ryker had my arms pinned above me basically straddling me.
"You're not trying." he said and I was basically panting out of breath. How was he so calm?
"Not trying?! Im giving it my best! I was never taught this." I yelled up at him.
"Right, I forgot mommy and daddy pampered you up in the royal castle." I looked up at him disgusted and brought my knee up kneeing him right where the sun does not shine. He let out a grunt losing his grip on my arms. I ripped one free pushing him off me reversing our positions.
"Is that trying?" I growled out.
"That'll do." He groaned out in pain.
"I'll have you know, my father died when I was six, but you're so narcissistic that you wouldn't know that." I growled out.
"I was just trying to get you angry. It obviously worked, but I'm sorry. I didn't know." he mumbled as I moved next to him. He slowly sat up and looked over at me.
"Really. I am... I lost my sister when I had just became an alpha. I can't say I know what it's like losing a parent, but I know what it's like losing a twin." He mumbled and I looked up at him.
"Im sorry." I mumbled and he gave me a small smile.
"It's fine, gattina. Are we cool?" he asked and I gave him a small grin.
"Only if you fix me your best Italian dish." he laughing nodding. "I can manage that." He stood up wincing and I couldn't help but smirk. Serves him right for underestimating a female.
I looked outside as we headed towards the kitchen. It was dark and gloomy.
"Is it supposed to storm?" I asked and he looked to where I was.
"Yes. Storms are supposed to be bad this week." I nodded following him into the kitchen.
I felt icky. "Can we not shower then eat?" I asked and he turned looking at me amused. "I mean if you wanted me to shower with you so bad you could have just asked." He joked and I rolled my eyes.
"Find your brain yet?" I smacked his chest playfully. "Seriously. Im sweaty and I'm hot and I'm not enjoying it." He nodded.
"Alright, how about I fix you dinner, and bring it up to you?" I thought about it.
"Okay, I mean if that's okay with you?" He smiled.
"Per te? Qualsiasi cosa." I smiled. "Im going to think you said 'sure sounds good' and leave now." He shook his head with a small chuckle turning and walking to the stove.

I washed my hair gently as I thought about everything. This all feels... weird. I never had been the one to depend on someone, or someone to depend on me. I've never had someone make me dinner. Never had someone want to teach me how to fight so they know I could potentially keep myself safe. No one has cared for me like this. My mother with just as snarky as I was.
Im sure she has never even washed a plate before. She made the servants at the house do everything. At first I didn't live in the palace. I lived with my mom and father. Then he died and my mother was placed under the care for someone who needed help. She had tried killing herself multiple times. Losing your mate will do that to you.
Christian soon took me under his wing. He was only twenty at the time and the new king. I guess in a way, he made me feel safe. He was like a brother to me. I was the only sibling. Mckenzie had became my best friend at the time. She had moved from the power pack after meeting her mate that was a royal guard at the palace.
I hissed at the water hit me, it was boiling. I turned it down some, but it seemed as if nothing worked. I turned it to cold and felt much better and finished rinsing the soap out of my hair.
{Ryker's POV}
I stirred the pasta with a small smile on my face. I couldn't help but be happy. I honestly never really wanted a mate. I didn't want to be tied down, but after meeting Madeline I couldn't wait for it. She was bold and hard headed and I loved it all. I loved her snarky comments and her babbling as she tried to stand her ground.
I'd never met someone like her. She didn't throw herself at me, which was odd, but I loved it. I loved the chase.
My movements stopped when a scent hit my nose. My wolf howled in pleasure taking it in. It came off in waves and had the familiar spice scent mixed in it. Madeline.
'Get someone to clean the mess in the kitchen' I mind linked my beta and walked off towards the stairs. I seen males—unmated males— pick up on the scent as I walked by and let out a ferocious growl.
'Anyone comes near my house, near my floor, or after my mate. I will slaughter you' I mind linked to every male within my pack.
They better keep their distance. I walked up the stairs to my floor when I heard a scream. I looked up seeing the door was open and my wolf took over as another male's scent hit his nose.
