Before you start reading, let me point out one thing. Vampires do NOT have Mates. They just don't. Not in my story at least.
As a matter of fact, in this book, only werewolves and weredragons have Mates. No other shifter has predestined Mates.
However, you can be of any species and be Mated to wolves and dragons.
I hope that clears things up. A bit.

BONUS CHAPTER: TAGGART'S POV (I)
8 MONTHS AGO.
"You need to come to my place, man" Teague, my friend sounds panicked as he calls me.
"Why? Is someone dead? Did Eduardo DeLuca finally die?" I really hope he did. Men like him are seriously not needed in this world.
"What? Why would you say that?!" T shouts through the phone. I am only glad I am not a shifter, or else my ears would be begging for mercy.
"A man can wish..." I trail off. Maybe I should set a hit on Eduardo, amd get rid of him already... Or I could just drop an anonymous call to Delilah's Mate, Alpha Ulysses and tell him all that I know about Eduardo. I am positive he will kill the dragon without blinking an eye.
"Not about somebody's death, you don't!" T is taking a stand and I want to point out that just because Eduardo is helping him in his quest for his Mate does not mean that he is a good guy.
"He has helped us time and again, and honestly Tag, you would be long dead if-"
"Why did you call again, T?" I don't want to go over why I should be thankful to that pathetic dragon. Not with T, at least.
"You have to come to my place. Like right now!" He sounds all hyped and frustrated and I am confused.
"Why?"
"Del brought home this girl-"
"Del is turning gay?" Now that would be a shame. Not that I am a homophobe or something. I was just hoping that one day, Delilah would get tired of Eduardo and her Mate and finally give the rest of the male population a chance.
What?
I know we agreed to keep things totally platonic but Delilah is a looker. And I am only a man.
What is it that today's generation says? Uhh... Yeah!
Bite Me!
"Now that would be something" I can almost imagine T grinning and I smile.
Manuel, my driver gives me a weird look, but I ignore him.
"I don't know if I can drop by your house just to meet Delilah's new girlfriend" I sigh and he scoffs.
"As much as I'd like to see Del get some action, she is not sexually interested in this girl..." T has an annoyinghabit of trailing off.
"Teague" I hiss, as I see Manuel turn into the street for my office.
"Tag, this girl.... I don't trust her man"
"So tell that to Delila"
He ignores me and continues to babble, "Del found her on this job she went to... apparently, this girl is a human" The last piece of information snatches my interest.
"Really?"
"Yeah. Her brother was mated to Janet" He adds.
"Janet Bishop? Ed's right hand?" I didn't know that Sexy Janet is mated to a human. Hmm... that's interesting.
"Yeah-"
"Wait. You said 'was mated to a human' Di you mean to tell me that Sexy Jenny's Mate fell in the grave?" I glare at Manuel when I realize he is eavesdropping on my conversation.
"Yeah. The poor bloke had cancer" T sighs.
"That's sad. So what is Delilah doing with Janet's sister in law?" I ask.
"You remember how Del loves bringing strays home?"
"Is that a jab Teague?" I taunt, though I an pissed. Why does he keep on reminding me that before meeting Delilah my life was not going anywhere.
"This is not about you. It is about Del. And how she loves to bring people home. And call them family. And all that jazz" T is nearly shouting.
"Okay. So why do you not trust this human girl again?" Manuel steers the car in the parking lot of my company.
"Tag, this girl is trouble. She's got this whole shy-good-girl look, but do you know that she sneaked in on one of Del's and Janet's job, because she wanted to see what her late brother's mate was up to" T rants.
"What's wrong with that again?" I wait impatiently for Manuel to open the car door for me and once he does, I get out of the car and stalk towards my private elevator.
"What's wrong is that because of her, Del almost didn't get the job done. Almost" T sounds so furious that for a moment, I am worried that Ruin will take over.
One thing you should know about Graham Teague Anderson is, Delilah's friends are his friends and Delilah's enemies are his enemies. And any threat to Delilah is a personal threat to him.
So the fact that this human girl put Delilah's safety at risk, is obviously not sitting well with Teague.
"Teague, how much harm can a human chit cause Delilah? Huh? May I remind you that Delilah is one of the stealthiest lady who works for Eduardo?" I wave at my secretary as I slip inside my office.
"Tag-"
"I have a very important meeting to attend, T. I am sorry, but I cannot entertain you any longer" My laptop is set on my desk for my video conference with some Japanese traders.
"Taggart William Renault! Are you turning your back on me?" T is not happy with my dismissal for the human.
"Stop with the full name, T. I will swing by your house at 12 o'clock, yeah?" I run a hand on my face as I say that.
"You better. Till then, I will stall Del from making this girl an official member of our group" He snarls and hangs up. On me.
If this would have happened to me, say 2 years ago, I might have made a call and the tiger would have been taken care of. But now? I am kind of used to it.
My Step Mother would cringe at how I have some humanity in me.
Oh, well.

"Your Highness, Her Royal Highness, Queen Alexandria Mary Crystal Renault is here to see you" Helen, my secretary beeps me.
"Tell her I am busy and if she wants to see me, she needs to make an appointment with you" I answer back as I log out of my laptop and take a glance at my wrist watch.
It's 11:40. I need to leave now if I want to make it on time for T's house.
"Sir-" Helen's voice fades in the background as I stare at the woman who I thought for nearly a decade had given birth to me.
I mute Helen and stand up.
"Mother"
"What is the meaning of this, Taggart? Is this how you treat your mother? The Queen? You tell her that she has to make an appointment to see you?" She is angry that I have no respect for her. What's new?
"Well... everyone else does, so you have to do it too" When I see her open her mouth, I add, "I don't play favorites mother"
"Taggart! Ever since you became friends with that female dog, you have been nothing but disrespect-" She stops speaking when she realizes that I am pulling on my coat. I see that I have a message from Melria. What does that sneaky witch want now?
"Where are you going? I am not done with you Taggart!" Her words ring behind me as I make my way out of the room.
I glare at Helen.
"Make sure she sees the Exit door before I am back" I tell her as I step in the elevator to go see Delilah.

I sit in the car and not waiting for my word, Manuel pulls out of the lot as fast as he can.
I cross my legs and then open Melria's message.
Where the hell are you? Del is going cuckoo over this human woman.
Okay, seriously?
Mel is worried?
I mean Teague, I can understand. But Mel?
Is this girl really a force to be reckoned with?
Guess I will find out soon.

"Honey, I am home!" I open the door to the DMT residence of London with a spare key T had given me a year ago and walk in.
"Where were you?!" T snarls.
"What took you so long?!" Mel grits out, her face red.
"I had a meet-" I am cut off by T.
"Fuck your meetings!" He snaps.
"You have to see this, Tag" Mel grabs my arm and starts pulling me inside.
"You need to use your stupid gift and find out whether this girl is legit or not" T hisses as he follows us.
I roll my eyes and knock once before opening the door to Delilah's room.
"Hello, Love" I smile at her and look around the room. There was no human in sight and that made me raise a brow.
"Where is this human again?" I swear if this is a joke, I am going to kill T. And Melria.
"She's in the loo" Delilah says as she glares at the two imbeciles behind me.
"You guys are ridiculous!" She tells them.
"Well..." Mel trails off, unsure but T is not one to back down.
"Tag here is a master at reading people and their intentions. So I for one think that it would be nice to have his opinion on this girl" He stands firm.
"T, what is wrong with you?" Del frowns.
"Nothing is wrong with me, Del. What is wrong with you? Just because Janet is going to die because her Mate is no more, does not mean you will adopt her... responsibilities" T sighs and Del's glare turns into daggers.
"I am nobody's responsibilty" A small voice chimes and T, Del and I turn towards it's source.
My eyes take in the woman in front of me.
She looks to be in her mid-twenties, with average height, (5'5 maybe?) tan skin, jet black hair that reaches her chin and brown eyes.
I put my powers at surface and everyone else in the room fades in the background as I allow myself to take her in.
I am surprised by just how much White I see.
So... pure. Almost as if... blessed.
I have never seen someone like her. Never felt someone's soul as clean as her. Not even a spot of Black.
'What is it, Tag? What so you see in her?' T demands and I pass some of my insight to him.
He whistles, 'No kidding. Is it even possible for somebody to be... this good?'
'I didn't think so... until today' I reply honestly.
I mean the cleanest soul I have seen before her is Delilah's. She had like a couple spots of black on her soul.
Just a couple.
And those were because she couldn't find it in herself to forgive her Mate.
'I told you so' Del taunts and I pull my power back.
I don't tell them that I felt some weird pull towards her. Almost magnetic.
They don't need to know about it until I can evaluate it.
I pull my powers back and the room comes into view again.
T is deep into thought, Mel is nowhere to be seen and Del is sitting on the bed, looking all smug.
"Hello-" I trail off, unsure what her name is.
"Is he also a shifter?" The raven beauty asks, her eyes transfixed on me.
"No, I am not" I tell her and distinctly note her American accent.
"So... what are you? I am assuming that you are not human like the rest of this house mates, right?" She cocks her head to the side and her hair falls down, brushing her shoulders now.
"I am a vampire" I smile at the shocked look that crosses her face.
"No shit" her eyes widen with fear and I feel weird. Like why is she scared of me? I am not going to do anything to her.
"Yeah... he's the vampire crown prince" Melria teleports right next to her and gets her all spooked.
"Will you stop doing that?!" She snaps at Melria who is grinning from ear to ear.
"Hmm... donno about that" Melria teases and I want to tell her to cut it. To go easy on her. But I don't.
"You didn't give me your name" I say softly to her.
"Only if you promise not to bite me and drink my blood" She says and when she sees my raised brows, rushes to add, "Just kidding... hahahah" Her laugh is nervous and I want so very badly to make her feel at ease that I laugh too.
This shocks my three friends. Because I am hardly welcoming to humans.
"You are hot" she blurts out and her cheeks flush making me grin.
"So I have been told"
"And you have a sense of humor"
"Thank you"
"And you are charming"
"Thanks again"
"And my name is Vanessa Bishop"
